I’m 54, I will ALWAYS dance to this song. If I hear it in a store, hells yes. In my car, definitely. When I’m 84 & in assisted living, I will use my walker. How can you NOT move to this song. 😏
There was a moment in 1990 when the fashion and music took heavy influence from the late 60s, this is the theme song of that moment. For a brief moment in the clubs, the fashionistas would dress like this and strut their stuff. This reaction was one of your best!
The 1990s were just wild. Not only was there a 1960s movement, there was also a strong swing era throwback with 1940s-style music that also helped vault some Ska bands into the Top 40 for a hot minute (The Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Cherry Poppin' Daddies, etc.). I remember a GAP ad with a bunch of models swing dancing in their khakis, plus the movie Swingers was obviously from this period... So strange but so fun.
Love this track. Many memories from that period. KLF, Justified & Ancient; Beats Intl, Dub Be Good; Snap, The Power... Just to name a few. So much nostalgia!
Yep you've got Q-Tip. PLUS Maceo Parker (sax), Fred Wesley (trombone) & bass player Bootsy Collins who all played together in both James Brown's band AND Parliament Funkadelic: Bootsy doesn't actually play the bass on this song he just provides guest vocals. The bass line is a sample from Herbie Hancock's song "Bring Down the Birds" originally performed by bass legend Ron Carter. Most of this song is sampled from some really obscure places (even the slide whistle).
Dude, I'm a METAL HEAD and I have always dug this song, and that girl can move! Groove is in the heart for reals ... Fun fact: I thought she said "Groover's in the House", for the longest time ... lol
Honestly the dancers in the video could have included a spikyleatherdeath metalhead and a razor-sharp purple Mohican haircut punkster, and they wouldn't have felt out of place. :)
these guys were at all the jazz festivals back in the 90s.. they played shows with Parliament , Grace Jones, Pattie laBelle ,Prince and Pharcyde. The singer is Lady Ms Kier a DJ and producer ,she has alot of friends in the funk, jazz community, thats why her n bootsie teamed up on this one.
I was there, can confirm dressing like a hip hop hippie was the vibe in 1990. Lilac Chuck Taylor's, a floral NAF NAF t-shirt, flared jeans and a bucket hat was my uniform. I blame De La Soul and the non-GMO weed. One of my favourite tunes of all time.
I saw a comment on another reaction to this song that it marks the exact moment when the '80s turned into the '90s...and I can't think of a better description for this classic! It pulled in some retro images and fashions from the '60s-'70s era, threw in a great dance beat, some funk, rap, guest appearances, and mixed it all up...with slide whistles. If you ever watched the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother" there's a scene where Barney dances with Robin to this song at Punchy's wedding, and it's a fantastic dance scene!
This song is still as fire as it was when it first came out when I was in college. Plus you've got Miss Lady Kier, Q-Tip, Bootsy Collins and a Herbie Hancock undergroove. Come on, man - it doesn't get better than this for a dance song.
I was working at a clothes shop named “Rave” and this song was on one of the prerecorded tapes. Still one of my favorite songs, because it always gave me a much needed lift in my day.
Man, I'm so glad you did that!!! This song is actually on my gym playlist! This gives me that pick me up energy I need while working out right along with Ren! LOL My club is Genesis so I start with that song followed by Losing It and you bet Deee-Lite is in the mix!!! Now I was a late bloomer so this was the stuff I was dancing to in the club!!! ❤❤🎉🎉❤❤ They've got a lot of great music!!!
What blew my mind was when I realized that (even though Bootsy Collins is in the vid), the groove is a sample from Herbie Hancock called “Bring Down the Birds” ☮️💜🎶
Brings me back to the Clubs! Love it! Love your reactions today even more! BP ~ You are one of the few real ones and I love and appreciate you immensely for it! Never change! Honesty, Integrity and Respect! You are a triple threat!

Parliament-Funkadelic bassist Bootsy Collins provided guest vocals, and the rap is provided by Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest. When this song came out in 1990, I was young and we all danced to this at our parties! This would get people up and dancing, baby. To add some perspective, and to be perfectly honest, I didn’t know what she was saying. Actually, no one else knew , either, and no one cared, because it didn’t even matter. This was 1990, before Google came along. It’s such a lively dance and party vibe! It was years later when we figured out she was saying “Groove is in the heart.” 😆 I’m gonna Google it and see what the lead singer, the lovely Lady Miss Kier is doing now, 34 years later. Funny how time flies.
Oh, I loved this song so much and the fashion in the video! This was popular in my 20s right after collge - went dancing in the club to this one! The clothing was 60s/70s - reminds me of the styles they wore on the TV show "Laugh In".
:D I can't believe you haven't heard this, this was such a tune in the 90's, maybe it was us Europeans who knew it more, but still this thing was huuuge. Still bangs today.
Oh maaan how have u not heard this absolute classic! I love this track. It never fails to make u dance or to cheer u up. Has to be played loud…. Absolute classic of the times, but still holds up.

In 1990 when this was released I was an aspiring actress in NYC and waited tables in a restaurant basically next to the Limelight club on 6th ave and 20th street. This song still slaps hard in 2024
Can't help but dance when it plays, Everytime ❤

Bootsy, Herbie, Q-Tip. Not hard to see why this is so fire 🔥.
Also an appearance by James Brown/Parliament-Funkadelic saxophonist Maceo Parker.

I remember everyone wearing The Doors t-shirts in high school in the '90s.
Going to write the same thing. 80’s was 50-60’s influence. 90’s was 60-70. That’s 70’s show. Deelite flower power bell bottoms and hair.
It's scientifically impossible not to love this song.
Facts!
It is said that this song marks the exact point in time when the 80s became the 90s.
This was such a club tune when it first hit in the UK. Still a party classic..
Technotronic. Pump up the jam!

Dee-Lite was THE BUSINESS in 1990!! This would fill a dance floor and have it on fire!!!!🔥
it still fills dance floors

And if there isn’t a proper dance floor, everybody in the store just starts busting a groove.
Soul II Soul "Back to Life ( however do you want me)". The lead singer has an absolute stunning voice
I agree
Caron Wheeler ❤
The album it self, Keep On Moving, is such a great listen all in all. 😊
Keep on movin' was truly influential. Back to Life as a single was a remix of the original album acapella.
YES! Ms Caron Wheeler, if I rightly remember... One of my personal fave songs!
I’m a Gen X and I danced my butt off to this song at clubs & parties! Still a great funky fun song! Classic ❤👏🏼
I paid a DJ in Juarez, Mexico to play this song in 1996.

This group was far ahead of its time. Their sound goes in crazy directions you wouldn't expect.
