Hi Simon and Martina! I used to work at Coco Curry in Hawaii and I have a peanut allergy. It wasn't until after two bowls of curry I realized I was having a mild allergy reaction to it and not a weird stomachache. I assume that's why Coco Curry tastes different, if not better, to other Japanese curries. I was wondering if you know if other Japanese curry restaurants or instant brands also include nuts in their recipe? Or if it's just Coco curry. Love your guy's videos, always puts a smile to my face :)

Jaemin huh I never really thought about other cultures not giving souvenirs 🤔 It can be hard when you’re younger and you have a lot of family members but not a lot of money lol. And it kinda kills the vibe when someone just expects a present and doesn’t care about your trip. But I love finding something that reminds me of a specific person and then seeing their face when I give it to them!
I went out with someone from Japan for a few years, and there were two food commandments that still stick in my mind. 1. ALWAYS buy Kewpie mayonnaise. DO NOT buy any other kind - ever. 2. There is no such thing as too much Kewpie mayonnaise.

The whole jelly thing. I was laughing so hard while simultaneously wishing it was a thing I did not know 😂 Thank you Simon for trying to share the local culture.
I love Japanese supermarkets. For non-edible gifts I like to go to 100 yen shops (e.g. Daiso) and just get a bunch of little cute things - anything from stationary, school supplies, stickers and decorations, to kitchen sponges, tissue packets, or even nail trimmers (they have cute ones!). Most 100 yen shops also have Made-in-Japan dishware that’s really impressive for the price. Dollar store gifts might seem boring or cheap in theory, but in my experience Japanese 100 yen products are pretty good quality and people really love those kinds of practical-yet-unique gifts.
TheRealSala That’s the downside to having millions of followers that know your favorites.....expect to receive it all the time in the mail. 😂 I’m thinking he got sick of it. Nearly every package they’ve opened for years has had a bottle, dry packs, or multiple of each. 🥴 😂

Hello Simon and Martina, I've been a subscriber for more than 5 years already, and I'm always Happy to see a New Video pop up on my UA-cam notifications so I can see what you bring to us :3 However, I loved mostly the TL;DR Segments where you provide information about Social and Legal norms in Korea back then, It gave me an insight to how Korean culture and society is, and I was even more excited about the new Segments from Japan's Social and Legal phenomenons, I saw a couple of them already but they were more about Daily life rather than Controversies and interesting topics. I would do some research online but you guys make it so interesting and delightful to watch, the closest thing to such a TL;DR that I've seen from your time in Japan was the video on how to get a house in Japan, specifically the Rent and Regulations to it, not to mention Tattoos in Japan. He gave me that sushi shirt everyone loves and also this huge scarf. I wasn’t sure what to do with it so I googled it and was able to make this colourful head wrap. We’ve known him since we all lived in Korea together! We were all team Korean indie music.
OH MY GOSH!!!! When Simon said he finally had the pickle recipe (despite having read the title of the video) I flailed my arms in excitement and surprise and almost tossed my phone across the room by accident. I had to pause the video to recover from my excitement and write this comment. Thank you for being our wonderful family across the sea 🌊 love from 🇨🇦
Supermarkets? Absolutely- even traveling to other regions within the US and seeing really different products is fun. I send pictures to our kids of the unusual things I see while shopping.

I'm actually leaving to Iceland from Canada later today :> I'm planning on possibly vlogging a bit and at least photographing everything/travel journaling ALSO I LOVE PUCCHO SO MUCH!!!!!!!! They come in bars like Hichew do! Sometimes they collaborate with different companies/cartoons and the bars come with a little charm, I find them at my local asian supermarkets (Korean ones) THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING A LONG COMMENT BUT HI IVE BEEN WATCHING SINCE THE KOREA DAYS AND AHXJXKDKDKCKFKFKCKFMFNNFKCKFJFCN SPECIAL TIME KONYAKU CONDOM TIME
I also love going to other countries grocery stores! It gives me an idea of how local's live/eat. I've always had that curiosity, but I think it's been amplified because I've worked at a grocery store for 6 years. I'm still interested for the sociology? of if, but now the business aspect as well. Seeing how they merchandise, the products that are being sold, the layout of the store.
You guys are just the BEST!!! I absolutely adore watching y'all! No matter where you are or what you're doing, your videos are ALWAYS amazing! You could literally make a video about dryer lint and I would watch it! That's how super cool you guys are! 😊❤️
NO ONE ELSE EVER UNDERSTANDS THE GRAPE THING I had grape flavor grapes for the first time in Korea XD I always thought grape flavor was nothing like real grapes.
Thumbs up on your recommendations! You listed many of my favs although you missed Cheeza snack crackers (!). Also, a tip, from another daily cyclist who grocery shops for a family of 5: consider buying a Burley Travoy trailer. Amazing design and they fold up into a very small package. (Get the rain cover add on because... monsoons). The trailer goes into the grocery store with you and can be used as a hand cart, not just a bike trailer. I can haul cases of beer, garden mulch, tp or paper towels AND my groceries, even though this is a very narrow trailer that tracks easily without creating a problem on the bike path.
Yes I love going to supermarkets, especially when I travel. It kinda gives a sneak peek of the food culture of that country/area. Also kinda feels like a treasure hunt searching for the good local stuff!

This has given me a lot of ideas 😊❤
Simon: *Rubs “curry toothpaste” on gums*
Martina: Ewwww
Simon: *instant regret*
It's been a while since King Fat Fat Taco Head made an appearance. Good day, Your Highness. 👑 Please drink some water 💧💧💧💧
Hands up - I am a supermarket freek and proud ; - ) Best things include the variety of produce, local language packaging and trying new products, especially when not knowing what to expect - surprise! Love you guys. Hello from sunny London x
Every time I wander through a new city, I find a reason to visit any grocery provider. I am enthralled by what a new food the place can bring me. Gets my hunter-gather instincts all in a frenzy. Must hoard new foods.
"Once you mix the cockade..."

(Furikake. But nice try.)
Martina, you look stunning in that coral pink.
And Simon, your workouts are really paying off.
I'm so glad you brought up Kewpie mayo, literally SO GOOD.
Every time I'm in another country---"to the supermarket we go!"---. It's a great way to get an overview and familiarize with the local foods! :)
Would love a part 2 to this video. Seeing you guys geek out like this is the best!
Martinaaaa where'd you get that gorgeously beautiful looking head wrap from I love the colors 😍😍😍😍
En Igmah Actually I got it from the friend I talked about in the video who eats the package, Ryan, he’s an artist! HauserHands is his art name.
He gave me that sushi shirt everyone loves and also this huge scarf. I wasn’t sure what to do with it so I googled it and was able to make this colourful head wrap. We’ve known him since we all lived in Korea together! We were all team Korean indie music.

Yes!! I'm going to Japan next week and this video is exactly what I needed!
Helen K My husband and I will be there next Saturday for two weeks! Our first time!
I live in south Texas and I am lucky to be able to have access to quite alot of Japanese candy options! Love y'alls videos!! Can't wait for the next one! ❤
Kerry Sue Same! We have a cute little Japanese grocery in SA called Minnano - they have a good selection of candies and snacks.
Wow!! We go to World Market and and Central Market! I will have to try that place too! Thanks!
Today is my birthday so I made a special trip! Loved it in there, thanks again!
Nice! Happy Birthday!
Simon? Not like ranch!?
Should have known with the facial hair that the true Simon got replaced by his evil twin; Nomis!
I'm willing to bet that Simon and his evil twin Nomis are both Slytherin. I remember the egg. You remember the egg. He's a Slytherin.

Simon: Any questions?
Me: Yeah, wtf
I'm visiting Japan right now with my husband and this is the best!! Can't wait to get some of these to bring back home. We've been watching you guys for years now and now that we're in Japan we always wonder if we will randomly run into you guys, lol!
When my partner and I go traveling we love heading to supermarkets and farmers markets! Looking at local produce, different brands and odd products, as well as comparing prices is part of the tourist experience!!
If I'm thinking of the same candy, then the first ones are called Puchao. They have them(or something very similar)at Daiso here and they market them as Puchao 👌 They are delicious!
I love you guys. You put me into the best mood with your humor. Thank you for the laughs 😂😂😂 and great recommendations.
OMG Martina! Your gray hair with the pink beanie is so delightful 😍 🌸🎀
普段食べてるお菓子がこんなに面白く食レポできるのか…!

You guys have really inspired me to take traveling into my own hands and REALLY enjoy vacations in foreign countries! I'm actually leaving to Iceland from Canada later today :> I'm planning on possibly vlogging a bit and at least photographing everything/travel journaling
ALSO I LOVE PUCCHO SO MUCH!!!!!!!! They come in bars like Hichew do! Sometimes they collaborate with different companies/cartoons and the bars come with a little charm, I find them at my local asian supermarkets (Korean ones)
THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING A LONG COMMENT BUT HI IVE BEEN WATCHING SINCE THE KOREA DAYS AND AHXJXKDKDKCKFKFKCKFMFNNFKCKFJFCN SPECIAL TIME KONYAKU CONDOM TIME
Now konnyaku will become super popular across the world. 😂
I've loved konnyaku for my whole life. I'm glad Simon has been converted XD
Specially with that slogan 😂 For special a special time make it konnyaku time. 😂😂😂
Video music on point, as always. I would seriously listen to your music if you decided to produce a spotify playlist.
i LOVED that reference about the mexican coke
Kewpie mayo is the best. I'm so... grateful they sell it in the asian markets near my house.
NO ONE ELSE EVER UNDERSTANDS THE GRAPE THING
I had grape flavor grapes for the first time in Korea XD I always thought grape flavor was nothing like real grapes.
