I raced RCs for a few years back 10+ years ago. I couldn't always see far-sides of track due to my vision (non-binocular) and think FPV would have been far better for me using a headset. A larger closed-course like this could have been a real fun time with new challenges over a drivers' stand looking down on a smaller closed course. Especially with the audio being passed back to the driver.
@@johnmcvicker6728 I have also raced before and as you say I think it's a bit of two different challenges. Some may fancy one over the other. So for racing, I think it would have been better to have the camera further back to get a bit more situational awareness of cars around you. In FPV it's a lot easier to determine where in the width of the track you are, and equally so left to right. It's harder to judge the speed and maybe under/oversteer can be a bit harder to detect sometimes. Especially if the road is bumpy, since I don't currently run any gimbal to stabilise the video feed. Audio doesn't seem to be a thing yet. Really hoping future systems will feature it for more information about the situation. The layouts that are fun also change with the view point. Search my channel for my latest video from noseville park and yellow pavilion rally. Those places are great places. Not that tight corners sl you can carry a lot of speed. You have view challenges like crests and also repeated S-bends where you can find a really fast line and it feels like you're flying! :D I made a play list with my top spots, there's a few more places that are amazing there ;)
@@johnmcvicker6728 I Wonder how that would work. I mean how it feels to drive a bike in FPV. I never dared to put it on my 1/5 super bike. I think it's tricky enough as it is... 😅
Thanks mate! 😊 Upper section was nice, trying to turn into the corners late to have an easy way out if some one appeared in front of the car.. 😅 But not too late, so the track ended.. Was exciting! Lower section was mostly transport. A bit bumpy. The up hill was nice too! :D
@@4runner_rooney359might be a smoother ride for sure. Mine was really low and I think the ground comes up and says hello to the chassis in a few places... 😅 It's running nice in the flat areas tho. Hard to find the compromise
@@4runner_rooney359 I have a theory that the axis you need the most is the pitch. I think when going full speed and passing bumps, the biggest problem is that the horizon is jumping up and down. Makes it hard to focus further in front of the car. If you get a huge slide, its of course also a problem but it's so much more rare compared to the bumps. And also the amount of roll you have in the chassis doesn't seem to change that radically for some reason. So to save weight I'd go for a 1 axis, maybe a 2 axis. My camera already sees all of my windscreen so I don't have that much use for looking around me, other than getting what I'm aiming for in the middle of the displays. I think @JIPPERR_1 also made some tests that kinda confirmed my theory. Check his channel as well. He built his own gimbal! :)
that's so cool. is there a way you could have a second camera looking back for a rear view mirror? And that girl looked as if she deliberately stepped out in front of the car. At least she put it back.
Thanks mate! 😊 I use the runcam 2, it's kinda bulky but I guess it could work. But maybe not on the same side... 😁 I usually don''t have anyone to film behind me and I don't wanna make the car too heavy either so I haven't given it much thought. We think she wanted something fast and small to go between her legs. Just happy all 4 rubbers were still on after she pulled me out of the bush
@@johnmasonRCingaboutare they 360 or is it just in the brand name? There are insta 360 go. They are quite small. Maybe a good option. I have the idea the 360° capable ones are a bit heavier and bigger tho , but I haven't kept track of the offerings lately. Maybe I should take a look :)
Also, they might not support FPV but that should be another game changer in the future, getting the digital IS of todays action cams directly in the FPV feed so you can remove the gimbal for the FPV. I guess its like swearing in church these days.. 😅 But I kinda feel it would be nice to get stabilised vid without a big mechanical thingy. Maybe hard to process all data but we have to believe in the future ;)
Thanks mate! 😊 I run a Sanwa mt-4s transmitter. I think I have a RX-461 in this car. I don't have super long range but it works great LoS. I think it's easily blocked by trees and leaves and that sort of thing so not really a problem other that when doing FPV. MRC Rally just posted a range test at the same location on his channel. I do not have the same range and he was on the hpi stock radio I believe. The trees eat my signal. You can see where we are both stood in our separate vids. That was the best spot. I had to be there to reach both the hairpin and the up hill part because there was some rock on the inside there I think. @Weekend-Driver there are those tiny 360 camera's, but I expect they will be expensive. And may not support FPV.

A bit of pitch axis stabilisation would have been handy in the lower section 😉
