Now it’s time to take a 20 minute UA-cam video and turn into a 2 week project, that’s what I’m best at.
Hey ye ain’t by yourself! I’m right there with you lol
It takes me 2 hours to find where I left all of my tools
So glad I watched this....I’m about to change 8 doors in my house and I’ve never done one before but you’ve given me the confidence that I could do a decent job....nice one
I'm glad that you come up in my recommended feed a lot. You're my favorite UA-cam presenter in the DIY home renovation space.
I used to use a circular saw with a guide set to about 3/16" and trim the lock side of the door the entire length, only takes a minute, no plane, sanding etc. Gives a nice gap all around. Router the hinges too.
Hey just want to say thank you for all your videos! I am looking at buying a older home that needs a lot of cosmetic fixes: repaint, new windows, and new doors. Your videos are changing my perspective from oh crap this is going to be an insanely expensive and intense project to this is something I can handle. Keep being kick ass and awesome!
This video says March 26 but Jeff has a tan. I think it was made the summer before.
Thanks for this Jeff. We are renovating a house we bought "as-is" last April. We were able to buff up all the doors except one. This video was a great help in getting a blank door ready to hang.
You're such a wonderful teacher. Thanks for another great instructional video!
Dude! I love when ever I have a home renovation question and I search youtube, your videos pop up! You have low key influenced my whole house lol
Omg! that's my next project , bought 3 doors to refit and you uploaded this tutorial, psychic connection buddy☺☺☺☺thanks for this one😀
Quick and easy never go together in home renovation. Great video and great channel.
Thanks a ton. Cheers! And congrats on your channel success!
I love what you just said
I can see already I’m in over my head.
Thanks for this video and especially the point about doors having a bevel. You saved me a lot of trouble.
thanx jeff, couldnt come at a better time, they just delivered my first two interior doors, one with full surface and one with glass
will be falling back from time to time on this video, cheers
Cheers Ronny, enjoy the install.
Wonderful demonstration and it boosted my confidence. I just installed a door using these steps and it worked great! I even learned how to use a planer. Thank you and well done!
Hi and thank you for the great videos about drywall and all the tips and tricks.
This video is full of information also, but it would be great to show all the steps needed for replacing a door in a brick wall. Telling a brick wall I mean a good old fashion internal thick plaster which makes a 25sm brick wall extend to 31-33sm at total.
How to remove the old frame to minimize the damage on the plaster. How to shim and fix the new door frame and how to restore the damaged parts of the wall plaster.
Once again - thank you for the all effort you give in making theese videos.
You make the best instructional videos on UA-cam. LOVE IT
I've done several interior door swaps due to previous owner damage etc. I use a template and a router, makes very fast and accurate hinge installs. I still enjoyed the video using a chisel though.
10:00 'These chisels aren't in the best of shape..." oh yeah? You just did your cut out w/o a hammer! They're fyyyyyyne! LOL Great tip re using the driver bit to set the hole location for screws. REALLY good camera work. Excellent workmanship.
Cheers Jim!
really helpful! really detail! learn a lot from your videos!
Thank you sir because of this video i just replaced my first solid core door. I love ur positive attitude because this was stressful for me 😄
I’m literally dealing with this exact issue right now! Thanks!
Glad to be helpful. Cheers!
loved the tip for the screwing
I really enjoy watching your videos at 430am lol. I wished my husband could do home renovations in our apartment. I've learned a lot from watching your channel. Keep up the good work 👏
Hi. Thank you for all the wonderful and informative videos. I do wish that i cal could be so handy like you as a female 😊. Watching your video, I do have questions but I’m going to try to follow exactly what you do ☺️. I did purchase 2 new slab doors to update our current old looking doors. I purchased the standard size and sure needed to trim it down to fit the right size. To purchase a custom door cost more so I’m trying to just trim it myself. The saw that you use, can you share the info so that I can purchase one for the future door change too. I still got about 10 more doors to update. Thank you and more helpful videos to come please. God Bless 🙏🏽
You’re very talented & you have a great planer.
I love you videos and the way you teach.
Thank you
Already did my first two doors by watching some of your older videos. I'll be sure to to watch this one. Your videos are awesome for a newbie such as I.
Not for long, you keep this up you will be a bonified jack of all trades. Cheers!
Bought a house month ago. Installed two pre hung doors. Door was old and both had history of being kicked in. But this video help me with just doing doors on rest of the house.
very helpful, thank you so much. I do everything wrong but keep trying to get it right, so I need lots of help.
Thank you for the information. I like your outlook and positive attitude. New fan.
No sense having a bad outlook. How you see things will determine how you handle things. Cheers!
I love watching you repair things, I learn so much from your videos, thank you Jeff.
Definitely my pleasure to help. Cheers!......feel weird calling you A10Toes! You look like a Barb!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Well thank you, my name is Donna, next time i comment, I tack my name on.
Cheers Donna , no need to remind me. How could I ever forget!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY your too sweet!
I love all your tips and tricks. So glad I subbed!!
Glad to have you as a part of our DIY CREW! Cheers!
Your video came handy just on time like always. Thank you
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and don’t pay attention to negative comments...
In the UK we have to flip between imperial and metric measurements because some building materials come in either of these. I wish you would do the same for people outside America. Good job
Wish I'd seen this video an hour ago.. lol thanks.
Ryobi makes a kit to cut the hinge mortises and hole for the knob. I believe it’s designed to reference off the original door (if you have it). Would be a time saver if you’re doing a lot of doors but if it’s just one, maybe not worth the money. Requires a router.
Very good, thx. I would also mention that the time of year is significant. Installing during a humid summer day? Make the fit as snug as you can. Installing in the dry winter? Give it some breathing room.
great advice for folks who don't have humidity control in their homes. Cheers!
Good Video- Great job- You are gifted teacher.
I love this show!!!
Thank you. Cheers!
Thank you so much , We plan to remodel kitchen, & bath ....
Great video. You make it look so easy. About ready to install 3 interior doors in house built in '50s. Would love to have that planar in my tool box.
not an expensive tool. and I think you can rent one for 20 bucks a day. Cheers!
A great tool if an even amount is to be removed, totally useless if the shoot needs to be feathered in.
Thanks, your videos are excellent!
You are a talented worker and it’s educational to watch your videos. Learned a lot, that’s why I subscribe to the channel. Mustafa from Houston.
Hi Mustafa, Cheers to Houston Buddy!
My chisels just got delivered yesterday and this is my next project. Thank you for posting all of the tips! My house is 100 years old and has the original everything. You've saved me so many times bc you share so much experience with us!
Thanks! I've been thinking about doing this!
Cheers Jason, glad to help!
You're the man!! One of my all time favorite channels. Thanks for the content
Jeff, don’t change. You’re great!!! Absolutely my favorite!!! I cannot click on your vids fast enough and always watch to the end. I will often watch many times simply because you pack so much great info in I dont want to miss even one detail!!!! 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😁😁😁😁😁
Also, if I were younger and you were not happily married to a lovely woman, this ole gal would have to move to Canada!!! 😜❤️
If that was all in play I would look forward to receiving you! Cheers!
Jeff, Reno master.. 💪
Good thing i saw this video thanks for the help
Great video. Best set of instructions I've found for this task. Would you recommend changing the old hinges or can the old hinges work? Thank You!
Old hinges would work but if you’re already getting a new door why not put on some fresh hinges? But if they were relatively new hinges I can’t see why they wouldn’t.
Was hoping this would be a lot more simple....never quick 😂 great video none the less!
Great video as always!
Thank you! Cheers!
Love your videos....lots of remodeling in my home...blessed to have a contractor as good as you.
Hi Judy, I am the blessed one here. great to have viewers who get into the comments on new videos. Cheers!
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY Had both bathrooms remodeled...then 4 weeks a clog in sewage line from house to street....UGH.....roto rooter destroyed my home during their tear out.....all put back and so happy to have my house back.
You need to make a jig to hold the doors so you can plane them and do the hinge mortise
Learned something here...plane the latch side, not the hinge side. Nice job Jeff!
great advice. today's doors are already thin enough. no need to make the hinge side any weaker. Cheers!
Hey Jeff I like your videos but I can't believe you don't have a video of hanging bi-fold doors and I find your videos very helpful
Wow, I will get right on that!
That was smooth!
I would suggest the hinge template and a router over manually clearing it out. You get a factory like finish, it’s faster, and is one less thing that can get messed up.
Agreed! However I show this aproach for all those folks who don't want to buy the tools just to hang a door. Cheers!
I don't understand your comment at ~3:49 regarding the door has an inside and outside - shorter side and longer side. How do we determine which is which?
thank you!
This is why you never chisel lengthwise at the hinge and the surface veneer. 13:43
I've cut a few doors like you have here. I don't feel so bad about my results. I found them to look substantially better by using a router and template to cut those hinges in. It may not have worked as well here because your door jambs were square, but by using the router, all you'd need to do is cut the rounded corners with the chisel square again.
As far as the door goes, your planing of the door goes pretty fast, given your experience you have no problems I'm sure. I use a circ saw guide and just set it to the depth I need and get exactly what I want cut off. Perfect to my line every time.
Cheers , I love the planner because I can only remove what the dial is set to. protects me from getting bumped from behind while on the job.
i love it!!
Nice job thanks bro
Do yourself a favor and get two 1-1/2 chisels. That way you have a spare sharp one when one gets dull. I use a variety of chisels in my carpentry business including a 2-1/2 x 8" slick for cleaning up notches in 6x6 posts. All sharp enough to shave with.
Wow, I would put a chisel that close to my neck. never know when the wife is walking by!
I’d love if you could make a video on ideas or a guide to outdoors stairs. Say to lead down to a fire pit or something like that.
done./ Check out the search tool. Cheers!
Great episode Jeff...Loving it!
Thanks Dean, we appreciate that. Cheers!
This should be put on a poster and set in all wood shops.
"If it can wood, it won't stop until it hits bone."
I'm loving your channel.
Great channel. Excellent content
Cheers Peter!
Do you guys have any videos on replacing an exterior double door with a slider? I've watched just about all your videos and haven't found one yet. Great video as always, by the way.
we just filmed a new exterior door install. same things apply. it should be out in a few weeks. Cheers!
I strongly believe one should attack the frame before the door (assuming you're okay with repainting it) in order to get a good fit. Otherwise, the next door replacement will require door trimming again. Get the frame cleaned up, and any standard door will fit.
Planning the door is far easier than planning the jam otherwise you'd have to remove the door stop or use a manual planer.
Also there might be nails or screws in the jamb that secure the jamb to the rough frame. Also if it's an exterior door, attacking the frame weakens the structure and the latching integrity.
Nicely explained...
Thanks Tracy, Cheers!
Great video thnx
Perfect every time!
Cheers Cory!
What the green marking tool which u have used for marking latch and knob? (Green little thing)
Jeff u the man!
I will take your word for it! Cheers!
Jeff, I'm sure you have run into jobs that had a current (or past) DIY failure, specifically drywall. How about a video repairing failed jobs? Such as fiberglass patches, bulging, and flashing? Cheers!
Hi Robert, wait until you see the episode of this bathroom in the reality Renovision. This bathroom was a DIY nightmare. Plus we will get to see all the DIY failures at pour new 1880's farmhouse. Cheers!
Thanks
For this summer i have a suggestion, if its in your line of awesomness …. what about different ways to do a pathway in the back yard to those awesome decks you built?
LOL, If not this summer then next summer for sure. we will tackle the outside living space with stone patio lighting and a custom made hot tub. Cheers!
Great video.
Thanks Larry. Cheers Bud!
Can you list all of the tools you used in this video, including the door knob kit? Thanks!
What's the name of the protective sheath you mentioned at 19:19? Was trying to get one but I can't find it on Amazon
"Safety Second"
That is for sure. Not all of us are made of ice cream or chocolate. Cheers!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Did you learn something Rob? Or, did you already know it all? Bitch ass.
@@HomeRenoVisionDIY just like i do it,no mask or glasses,im 67 and still have all my fingers and both eyes lol
Hey Jeff can you do a video on installing a 12x24 Vinyl in the future? Thanks a ton!
sounds plausible, however it is the same as any other size tile. snap and click and the odd pound. Cheers!
You are really wonderful thank you my friend Jeff
Cheers Sharif, How are things in Egypt?
Egypt is very beautiful I hope to visit Egypt soon
A bit late to the party but was just trying to fix my warped interior hollow door. It won't close because the bottom of the door is hitting the outside door jamb. I did the warp door test and it is the mid to top part of the door that is warped inwards (towards the inside of the room). Should I change the whole door or try to straighten the door to save hassle? Not sure how to straighten it out other than putting weight on the warped end? Please help thanks.
Can you do a video on replacing a 34x82 exterior door with a 36x82?
Great... now I have to pick up a Makita planar since I see how useful such a tool can be!
a belt sander works as well if you have one. just need a little patience. Cheers!
Just wondering why you don’t use a router for the hinge mortises.
Does anyone know the name of the kit to install that helps you cut the doorknob hole to match existing switchplate?
Glad i'm not the only one that often get's sawdust in the old eye. :-)
Just did an install like you're doing here and left a 1/8th in gap at the top as you did. Unfortunately, the customer could see a crack at the top of the door because the old doorstop was too thin. Try as I could, They saw it as my cutting the door short. There's no pleasing some people
Any chance you could show me how to convert a bifold closet door into a pair of 15" french doors for a closet? I guess I would use a magnet catch?
Great video as always! Where can we buy those drill bit sheaths? I always scratch my surfaces :(
I believe you can deconstruct a pen.
Would you happen to know the make and model of that shower set up?
Looks great.
riobel pro ever series. Cheers!
i have just done 4 doors, wish i had seen this first,it would have been a lot easier
What's the model # and name of the Makita tool you used on that door?
Tips or maybe a video on how to fix doors that don’t latch properly?
I love that idea. we will definitely be doing that. Cheers!
Would like to see this one as well. So many situations to consider.
And how to fix doors that slightly open by themselves, or slightly close by themselves?
What do I do if I have a new door, 4.5 inch jamb, but true 2x4 framing (4 inch on the flat not 3.5 inches) and half inch sheetrock on each side.
I would have left a bigger gap on the side where the door closes. Old house contract and expand like crazy!
In Brazil we use a palm router for the hinges.
That works too. Cheers to Brazil! BTW Love the Ipe decking. Cheers!
Buying my fist house and I can’t wait to get in there and tear the whole thing up trying to following your tutorials
Hi Natalie, How Exciting for you! I would love to get pics and updates along with any questions you might have along the way. We are going to start a new service on UA-cam in the members area to be announced soon. I will be spending time with members going over tips for buying wholesale and a whole bunch of other insider info to help renovators such as yourself get the maximum results and return. Stay tuned.
