Ok brother.. I literally just watched 3 other videos before I watched yours. Hands down. Yours is by far, the simplest to follow. No compromise to detail as well.
Thank u ,you have a lot of know an make the job look very easy for the diy🎉
I have struggled in the past to hang a prehung door. Instead of shimming and nailing this made so much sense. Utilize longer hinge screws to fasten and just worry about the hinge side. I loved it!!!!!!
Yes, that is a trick I learned years ago. I’m glad I can help you!
I am with yah Rob. Love this video.
Literally what are the odds. I have a doorway in shambles ready to install a new door! Nice.
That is perfect timing! I will be premiering in about an hour. I will see you then!
A few months ago you posted a video on installing a shower the same week I was going to install a shower in my home. Your video helped me do a real nice job. Perfect timing again!
Thanks Josh. Merry Christmas!
@@robertlafleur5179 So cool Robert! I’m glad you got your project done. Merry Christmas!
I fully appreciate the way you taught the casing method and measure tips, if not the easiest way, it is right on point. Thanks much sir.
I was looking for this video about two months ago. But - I do want to say Thank You for the dozens of other videos that you have put together that allowed me to feel confident in building and finishing out a live-in space in our pole barn!
That is so cool my videos helped you with your building! I’ve been making videos as I come to each phase of the house, so this just happened to be a little later than the others. Good luck with the rest of your projects! Thanks for watching!
Didn't know Seann Scott knew how to set doors 😂👍. Very helpful video! Thank you!
You are welcome! I’m not sure who that is but sounds good to me. Thanks a lot for watching my video!
Excellent video. Been fighting with a door all day. This looks way easier than what I was trying to do! Thank you sir!
Thanks a bunch! Hung my first door and trim like you described and it turned out perfect!
Fantastic! I’m so glad I could help. I appreciate you watching my videos. I hope the rest of your projects. Keep going well. Take care!
Nice job! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

Josh, Great video & technique!
Great explanation. Great job.
I like your videos very much Josh. They are very detailed than other videos. Great great great job !

Super helpful sir. Thank you so much.
Perfect video...excellent explanation...perfect execution. :)
Thank you!! :)
Great video. I'm about to start a small home project and it requires installing an interior door. This will be my first and your video has taught me a lot. Thank you.
Good to hear Aaron! It’s not too difficult to install an interior door. I’m glad this video was helpful for you. Good luck with your project!
awesome great technique and simple
Excellent well presented video.
Hanging doors is always a favorite of mine. One thing I was taught many years ago, determining the door swing, was to put your back to the jamb and if the door swing is to the left, left door swing etc.
I have always screwed the jamb side as well because it's much easier to adjust as well if needed like you explained and reversing the shims is important as well. The door should stay closed and open at whatever distance it's open, not open on it's own. Of course old houses are tough if the walls are not plum. I have always put the top trim on if I didn't make up the trim with the biscuit unit with glue on the miters because I always found it easier to cut my miter on the legs of the casing then flip my casing and mark them all and number them if many doors. Always what makes it easy for each person.
I always did the finish caulking etc in case the home owner was going to do the painting. You can't fill small spaces with paint.
Love the style door as well. Much nicer than the traditional 6 panel wood grain look. I always loved smooth panel doors.
Thank you again for the great job and video Josh.
If you don't have another video before the holidays, I hope you and your family has a wonderful Merry Christmas and safe New Years.
I always enjoyed hanging doors as well. I actually used to install doors for Home Depot. I have probably installed hundreds of doors by this point. The handing of the door can be confusing to some people, but with a drawling it is a easier way to explain it to people. He biscuit would definitely be helpful on the 45s. I usually don’t do that but it would add extra security. Merry Christmas to you as well. Thanks a lot for your awesome comment David!
Excellent video, I just learned all the details '*Great video *

In about to replace one of my lower interior bedroom doors and thank to your video I'm now able to do it on my own...so thank you soooo much
Thanks again Josh
Great video, thanks!
Great video great view sounds house 🏠 nice door. Working. ⚒️
Thank you, Peter! Also, would like to mention the door is solid core meeting. It allows for more soundproofing. Take care!
Love the informative videos brother, keep up the excellency sir 🍻
Thanks a lot! I got lots of videos in the making. Stay tuned!
You are awesome. Best instructional videos for any genre. I'd love to hear how you monetize your efforts. I am making a crapload, but not from UA-cam. I only have to shoot 3 weeks a year and play golf for the other 49 weeks. (No- I don't have anything to sell you. ha!)
You made an easy job which would otherwise be a PIA, which is was for me when I recall my first few attempts..
Thanks
You are welcome!
Awesome work my friend, question...do you have a video on doing a mud pan for a shower?
Awesome video super helpful. What gauge nail gun are you using?
Naw... I know you caught hell trimming the shims that were pretty much against the wall... 😂 Thx for the video, a lot of great info!
Hi did you have to check for level on the floor? I seen other videos where they address that. Thanks
Do you repaint the entire door jam and trim after calking? Or do you spot touch up the paint?
Hey Josh ! How much maximum should be the gap between the finished floor and the door bottom?
Awesome 👍👍
Thank you Anthony! Good to see you here.
I haven't hung very many pre hung doors but they never go that easy. There's always some issue with the walls or wall thickness variations.
Do you not put shims along the top or are those not needed?
Instead of one wood, I had 3 sticking out from both side. What would be the best way to cut the hanging wood.
Handy and handsome
I appreciate that. Thanks for watching!
Is there Anything you Can't Do... Ha, I think I have watched all your videos. Thanks
For new construction, do you recommend hanging the interior doors before or after flooring? Any pros or cons to either?
I always do doors after floors. I hope that helps!
Thanks for the reply. Your videos have been a huge help while building my house.
Painters will hate you if you install after floors 🤣
I think both comments are correct. I install all the floors that are hard first before the door. This means tile/hardwood. If the door is going to be installed in a place there is carpet, then install the door first and then the carpeting. Never put carpet under the door jamb.
Can you video adding the garage door
I will be doing one in the future. Stay tuned!
Great video thanks for sharing your expertise, question; whee can I get a door with out casing but only the door jam, because the big stores seem to have prehung doors with casing included only. Thanks again!!😊
In our area, casing comes installed on one side, makes installation a breeze. If it doesn't come with, I install it myself.
Yes, the split jam doors I buy has the trim on them. Thanks a lot for your input!
@@TheExcellentLaborer I wish we had split jambs in my area. It's just not a thing in central Texas.
Can you tell me how wide the door opening have to be for let's say a 32 inch door? In other words, how do I frame the opening for a door if I have a 32 inch door? I think the opening had to be 34 inches wide, is that right?
You always add 2 inches to the door width to create the rough opening. For instance, if the door is 32 inches the rough opening should be 34 inches wide. So yes, you are correct. I hope that helps!
1 inch for windows RO, 2 inches for door RO (as a general rule...)
@@TheExcellentLaborer
Yes, it helps. Thank you.
Question for you - wouldn’t you want to not put the screw that’s holding the frame in place through the hinge? Cause when someone comes along and repaints the door frame and they take the hinges off then the door will fall out of place.
When a door is removed from the hinge, typically you would remove the pin and not the screws. I hope this helps!
@@TheExcellentLaborer but what about when you repaint the door frame, wouldn’t you remove the hinges from the frame to avoid painting them?
@@wildernessworthy If repainting a frame, I wouldn't normally remove door trim. The trim will keep the frame in place. I suppose if you wanted to be extra careful you could shoot a nail through the shim on the hinge side as well.
Don't need glue?
Always excellent job mr. Josh.., you taught me a lot buddy ( I already subscribed 😊) also should be breaking ground to Dream Home 4/19/23
(Outskirts Tallahassee area ) Tony T's Lawn Care of Florida LLC 😅
What size are the finish nailer?
16 gauge. I hope that helps!
Your the man
As with every video you do not deal with out of level floor or worse twisted hinge side stud. There are 100's of video like yours that make it look easy but not dealing with the real world.
Be careful holding a piece against the right side of the miter saw with your left hand. Better to hold it with your right hand/arm and pull the saw down with your left arm.
I hate to talk smack because you seem like a good dude. You made some good points but…. First off you NEED a 6ft level. You can’t install a door with a 4ft level (unless you’re a seasoned pro). The level is only good for the length of the level. Other than that good work
You didn't mention step number one until the end of the video. It's a pre-hung door so to install it on an out of level floor may result in the latch being out of alignment as well as making getting the "reveals" consistent much more difficult. You are actually referring to gaps not "reveals." A reveal is a set back (a change in the plane of a surface,) or a recess. An empty space is a gap. Don't get me started on the terms "plumb" and "level." People misuse these all the time even though they are ninety degree opposites.
I'm gonna stick the vid out Josh, but the way I learned is you lean your ass on the jam hinge side and which ever way you want it to swing your arm side of of swing is it. Left arm or right arm. Oh I'm only 61 yrs old. Lets proceed with vid, if I respond again I'm only pushing your algorithem.
This is not the proper way. I’m not bashing but it will fail over time.
Looks great 👍
Thanks a lot Ronnie!
What size of nails you use
So you have a how to remove and install windows?
Get the quick hanger kit from Home Depot stop wasting your time with shim I admire your skills but the quick hanging kit is a million times better than shims and then just use spray foam the door Will Never Move honestly I think Shims are for amateurs I will never go back to doing it the hard way you can thank me later. I glean all the knowledge from all the old timers that I can to make my life easier turns out I'm the old timer now and nobody pretty much teaches me anything anymore but you have your gems but this isn't one of them
If I see shims I cringe instantly !I watch all these kids fuck stuff up and it takes them an hour or more... it takes me half an hour to do it right the first time
@@TheRugerbear old man yells at cloud
I wouldn't say shims are amateurs... They are about 100X more difficult than the brackets. That being said I always buy the brackets worth $6 to hang a door in less than 10 minutes.
I appreciate your videos, I am learning a lot
I’m glad I can help! Thanks for watching my videos and commenting!
