I know more people who have been snapped on and bitten by golden retrievers and other more "family friendly" dogs than I have people who have been attacked by bully breeds. The most Savage dog attack I ever witnessed was a chihuahua mauling a kitten. Bully breeds are simply talked about more because they're the sensationalized breeds, but in reality, literally any dog can snap for literally any reason at all. It's just a dog thing. They apparently still have some of those wild instincts we've been breeding out of them for generations now. It's an animal. Shit is going to happen. We need to stop putting the blame on one specific type and make sure ALL people are safe around ALL dogs. No matter what breed or upbringing, its just better to be safe and aware that this is, in fact, a fucking ANIMAL.

    • @Sage-jm2iq

I think part of it also comes from bully breeds having such *bad* bites. No one will take it seriously when some brachy small-breed with three teeth left goes ballistic on someone, and countless videos of small/toy breeds growling and attempting to attack people that are holding them are in 'funny video' compilations. The fact of the matter is, bigger dogs have worse bites, but that doesn't mean they're more *violent*. This is probably why any 'official' statistics are skewed, too. If a large breed gets a good bite in, you'll likely need stitches or at least may get it checked out at an ER or urgent care clinic, and thus the bite gets reported. Meanwhile if a Yorkie bites you with intent to kill but still only barely manages to break the skin, most people would just wash the bite and get on with their day, and that bite goes unreported. It even seems like OP's pittie wasn't intending to attack them, but anyone getting in the middle of a dog fight is at major risk for an unintended injury. The same goes for getting in the middle of a fight between two people. The 'fight' response + adrenaline put reasoning on the back burner and animals/people will attack whatever gets in their way out of survival instincts. I could talk a lot more about this, and risk factors/reasons why it could have happened, but I would be here all day.

I can relate to how the one OP who didn't shower in a while felt. Fellow struggler of depression as well. In my 8th grade year of middle school, along with my freshman year in high school, I had severe depression and barely had the motivation to wake up or do anything. I didn't even have the motivation to even take a bath, not only because there were cockroaches mainly in the bathroom along with some in my room from being closest to the bathroom as well, but also because I was a mess who lived in.. pretty much a pigsty. When I did take a shower again, I did feel happier, and everything improved in my life too, so yea, congrats to the OP.
With the first OP who got "pranked" by their partner, I would've done the exact same thing. This will seem slightly weird, but I've always been obsessed with being married, for as long as I can remember. If my partner tried to pull that on me, they wouldn't even just be slapped, I hate to admit this, but I probably done far worse. Slapping him seemed tame to me. At least she dodged a bullet, because who knows what else he would've made a "prank" of.

  • @AracneMusic

About the dogs, OP has two female dogs that are slowly going out of the puppy stage. I think this is more important than the breed of each dog. They have instincts and compete to have a higher status.
Also, because German shepherds (I think the other dog was a german shepherd?) tend to have longer legs, she probably, unknowingly put het head above the pitbull's. Dogs that are territorial usually don't like this, but German shepherds are usually oblivious to that. It happens often with my sister's American Stanford and my German shepherd (two females). We always have to have an eye on each of them when they are around each other so they don't suddenly break into a fight because of something like that.
Honestly, I know it's hard and it would break my heart too, but I don't think OP can keep the two dogs. First, because they are going to fight again. Second, because OP is now afraid of the pitbull in some level, and dogs somehow know that.

This is what I was thinking, some dogs just don’t do well in a two-dog household and that could very well be a contributing factor to the fight… agree 100% with this comment and to add, it doesn’t have anything to do with the dog being a pitbull, lots of different dog breeds will react this way.

My horrible uncle ran over a little girls puppy when I was a kid. I can't remember where we were going, I just wanted to go for a drive. My uncle was drunk and driving down a residential street. A girl and her puppy were playing in their yard, which was gated, and the puppy was on the side of the road. My uncle intentionally swinged to the dog, I didn't know what was happening, then I heard the little girl scream and cry. My uncle then began laughing and I asked my mother what happened. She just scowled and said nothing and later my father told me and I cried for the girl. My uncle died a very slow and painful death of bone cancer, and everyone in our village rejoiced. If there were 10 people at his funeral there was a lot.

When it comes to pit bulls (and dogs in general) the biggest thing I've noticed is that people are not very good at reading their body language. You have to be very well versed in dog language to realise that they are not, in fact, just being super friendly. These dogs are not "snapping out of the blue" these people have just failed to read their body language correctly. Pitties can be very high energy dogs, and if they're not getting their proper exercise, stimulation, and training, that energy can come out in other ways, such as aggression. A dog that loves to jump up on other people, wag their tail, and bark is not necessarily being overly excited and friendly. These can also be signs of anxiety and nervousness. If pushed, they can snap, and this is where people say "Wow! That came out of nowhere." When it didn't. When they play with other dogs, playtime can sometimes get rough. If one dog gets too rough and the other doesn't like it, it might growl or snap a little at the one being too rough, and the one being too rough might snap back or even bite the other one which can result in an all out fight. Always sperate dogs when they are playing too rough to avoid these situations. The other thing is, pitties tend to have a pretty high prey drive, so make sure the pit bull is well accustomed to cats and other small animals before letting them just walk up to them. It's also important with ALL dogs to properly introduce them to children, especially big dogs. Remember, your dog is YOUR responsibility, so make sure you understand their body language, anxieties, and fears before letting them interact with others unsupervised, even if it seems like they would never do something like that. Every dog with a bite history has had a "Wow! they've never done that before" moment.

@@moon-moth1 Agreed! I mostly put pit bulls specifically because that's the breed people were saying were bad in the video. Like no, you just didn't read their body language before putting them in that situation. I see people complain about it more often with pit bulls simply because there is a stigma with them and people assume.

Honestly, any dog can snap and become dangerous like that, it's really unfortunate, but it's just... something that happens sometimes. I had a border collie who I had raised since she was a puppy, I knew everything about her from the time I got her until adulthood, she was the sweetest dog, absolutely the love of my life, never had an aggression problem, never growled or barked at any other dogs, my own families or other people's dogs. It hit me like a train the day I opened the back door to let my dogs in and she was covered in, what I had initially thought was mud, and my little chihuahua mix wasn't coming when I called for her. I didn't realize what had happened until after I went outside to look for her and found her with her neck ripped open, that was when I realized it was blood, not mud or dirt...
I did the stupidest thing I could have done at that time to, I kept that dog, and she went on to get into a brief fight with my mom's dachshund, and eventually killed the dachshund later on. I was a teenager, and... she was my dog, I tried everything I could to train her, to keep the event from happening again or becoming worse, but it just... it wasn't preventable. That dog would not give any warning signs before she would attack, and I know, it was our fault to for having a large dog and a bunch of smaller dogs, that's usually the first in a long line or mistakes, but... it's not just pitbulls who can become aggressive like that, any dog can become aggressive or hostile, I'm sure there's a reason, be it genetic, neurological or otherwise, we might not know, or understand it, but it can happen to anyone.

There's a popular American TV show... it was about a woman and her Pit Bulls. She was working for some animal shelter when she had her "first" Pit. She had no choice but to take her 8 year old daughter to a location at which dogs were raised/trained for dog fights... and one of the dogs, ran out of its enclosure and viciously mauled her 8-year old girl.
When she rushed over to rescue her daughter from the attack, all she could hear was her daughter begging to get the dog off her... Then, looking at the damage the dog did to her daughter, she decided to keep the dog instead of taking it to the pound, as her daughter used her shirt to wipe doggy slobber off her face.
Unfortunately, that dog died ~20 years later, 4 days before he was scheduled to walk the, then 28, year old bride down the aisle.
It's not the breed, it's the training combined with the dogs temperament. I was bit by one dog in my life... I was watching it, another one, and the two adults play with it... I was just watching when it ran up to me, jumped, and bit me in the face. I don't know what happened to the dog after that... fortunately, it didn't bite me too hard and the teeth missed my eyes... although barely.
I had another dog, she wasn't good with young kids. She went around nipping me and my younger sister whenever she got close to us, even if we're sitting at the dinning table and she's just walking past. She was basically putting us in our place... which wasn't good... but that can be remedied by training or, as my mother did, placing her in a family with older kids.
We had another dog that was considered to be a "fear bitter". He only bit people out of fear. Strangers. It took him a long time to accept that my family wasn't going to hurt him... so he was able to "relax" around us... but strangers... he would run away when they looked at him, but as soon as the strangers turned their back on him... he rushed at them and tried to bit them. As he was a miniature collie/chow mix, he was only knee high and weighed only ~50 pounds... but, even then, he could accidentally cause a lethal wound by biting people in the leg (there is an artery running through the back).

Any dog can snap, and they can snap at any time, its never going to just be Pits, and its never going to just be things like Labs as the sweet non snapping dogs, because how many times have i heard of a lab being pushed too far by a kid and having to be put down? A lot. Same with huskeys, and we all know that no one trains their little dogs. Ive almost been bit by my friends lab Rouge, more than ive almost been bit by Bandit, a reactive pit, Bullwinkle, a pit who has let the little kids literally ride on him, Bean, a rescue pit that was a fighting dog, who we fostered. I will never 100% trust a dog, any dog, not a golden retriever, not a black lab, not a pit, because any animal being pushed far enough can and will snap. Thats why you watch animals behaviors with eachother, kids behaviors with dogs, and help protect all parties from stressors. If kids stress your dog out, hide them when kids come around, if the animal needs to be in a home without another animal DO THAT, make sure your animal is mentally okay, even if theyve known the other animal all their life, something could still be happening behind your back, or even sometimes, playing goes too far, or theres jealousy, not being neutered/spayed fast enough in their life, or even their backstory, weather coming from a puppy mill, fight rings, or the ethical breeder that you paid thousand to. Any animal can snap, and any animal can leave damage. Theyre animals. Domesticated or not. Cows and horses are domesticated, and yet, tons of injuries from them

    • @nicoleblake8570

I am a dog trainer and one of the worst cases I saw was a lab who was resource guarding his owner. As usual, the owner was like "Isn't it so sweet how protective he is!" And I was like "No. That's not protectiveness, that's resource guarding, and a bad case of it too." Unfortunately, they were not taking it seriously and truly believed their dog would not actually hurt anyone. I had to talk to them for a while and encourage them to get private training in their home (I did group classes only at the time) with someone who specializes in that type of aggression, cause it was bad! I don't think I ever had a pit bull snap at a person in my group classes like that dog did. I had ones that didn't get along with other dogs, but it certainly wasn't a pit bull exclusive thing.

Like everyone else I’m going to comment about the pit bull thing. While I’m not an expert on dogs, I do work with large animals. They are still animals, the most patient animals can become dangerous if things go wrong. The best way to avoid those dangerous situations is to watch their body language. When I work with horses I watch for certain movements because they will give warning signs when you do something they don’t like. I do not ignore those signs, I listen to them. The same goes for dogs. They will start with small signs telling you or another dog to leave them be, then they’ll slowly become more obvious. If those signs are ignored they will bite. As their owner it’s on you to make sure it doesn’t escalate to the point of biting. Animals may not be able to speak but they will try to convey a message in a way you will understand. Sometimes it takes drastic measures on their end for you to finally understand.

On pitbulls I'm still a firm believer that many of them are all around sweet, kind dogs. In fact they used to be used for protecting children and were known as nanny dogs.
All dog breeds have the potential of randomly turning on people and other animals even if that dog is otherwise friendly. At the end of the day, dogs are still animals and still have certain instincts.
My whole life we've owned a total of 4 dogs: a sheep dog poodle mix and 3 pure bred chihuahuas. Sheep dog mix was a rescue and had randomly bitten me and my first chihuahua before, luckily no stitches needed. First chihuahua was very friendly and never bit out of the blue. He only resorted to biting when in pain or spooked enough. Second chihuahua was also mostly sweet and she was the cuddliest dog we ever owned, however she was more privy to snapping. She was more territorial and hated most other animals but adored humans. Only animal she got along with was my guinea pig. Even if she did bite or snap, she'd immediately lick you after, as if to apologize. 3rd and current chihuahua 100 percent plays favourites. I've never once been mean to him. I never teased him, I never scared him, I never yelled at him, I never hurt him. I'm always gentle with him and even took care of him when my grandma was in the hospital. Even after all that he's so rarely affectionate with me. He's almost always affectionate with my grandma and dad, he tolerates my mom and brother only half the time, and it feels he only tolerates me 5 percent of the time.
Every dog is different. The only reason why it looks more common with pitties is due to preconceived notions. You see the ones that snap and due to stigma, you feel like they are all like that. It is mostly how dogs are raised, but it's also their instincts that determine their behaviour and again, all dogs have the potential to act out, even if raised right, but will be far worse when raised wrong, and some dogs are just beyond help.

Why do you put zero personality in your voice and read it down as fast as possible? Quality over quantity, I would argue that slowing it down and maybe even throw your own thoughts in would enhance the listening experience. If this is just some bot voice sorry for not realising 😅
