What HAPPENED to Corsair Cases?

  • Corsair used to be known for the the best PC cases on the planet but that has changed. Instead of them offering amazing build quality, innovation and pricing, Corsair PC cases are now expensive, have a lot of copycat features that are years late and have build quality of a sub-budget case. But let's also talk about how things can be fixed.

@@unitedstatessc I am pretty sure this was a case where a company going public really has THAT much of an effect. A company grows and compromises must happen, even if economics of scale go in their favor. Also, it isn't like private companies don't have shareholders pressing for profit.

    • @OmarFW
      @OmarFW 2 місяці тому +11

@@unitedstatessc Yes, but why can't they keep up? Because of shareholder influence and a pivot to exclusively profit motivated practices which sacrifices quality and engineering. It's a tale as old as time. Public ownership destroys companies in the name of infinite growth.

@@OmarFW the fact that the 4000D is one of the most popular cases and often recommended also plays a factor, why keep innovating if you're already very popular and your product works fine?

The day Corsair went public, I stopped buying Corsair. After getting a Lian Li Lancool 2 Mesh, I was appalled at the thought of even reusing my old Air 540 Corsair cases. RIP to the legendary Corsair company we all once loved. It really drove home to me when my Corsair AIO started malfunctioning merely 3 years after release because they forgot to renew their Microsoft Digital Certification for it. Nothing but incompetence since they turned corpo.

I agree they suck, but they've kinda always sucked? People just didn't know, like how many people genuinely didn't know who seasonic was, despite them making the majority of every good power supply ever made. My Corsair AiO also died on me about 3 years in. Personally I will never use another AiO, Corsair or not.

@@Enixious99 My first AIO was a non-rgb one from Lian-Li that I got like, 8 years ago? It's still going, and it's been passed down twice. From me to a friend, and from that friend to yet another friend. The fans did need to be replaced once, but we think that's because the second friend to get it used an air compressor air gun to dust out the case and absolutely hammered the fans wihtout knowing better. My current AIO has been going strong for 5 years now. I think the ticket is to not buy a fancy new model AIO that has been untested by time, and instead to opt for something that has been truly tested by the community due to the sheer amount of time that is has been on the market and considered reliable.
Personally, I'll never not us an AIO but I understand being burned so bad you'd never wanna look back either.

When looking at new cases to do my wife's build in, I noticed some of the corsair cases just lacking quality control. I then found the Montech cases and honestly for the price, the quality is so much better than anything in that range ( honestly Montech could charge 10-20% more and it would still be a better buy ) but going back to the quality of Montech. They have designs and ideas which both cater to those who want something basic and useful yet they offer other cases that just go head to head with those that run $50-$100 and have the same quality. I can't wait for the new Montech Sky 3 Performance coming out next year but the Sky Two GX is truly one hell of a case!

I won’t get any case unless it has front fans with mesh. I don’t get the point of side fans blowing at glass. Corsair 4000D/5000D aren’t too bad. A case like the 5000D with the current Y mesh holes instead of triangles, non-tinted glass on the black model, a little more offset toward the glass panel for the AIO and no swinging door on the back would be a nice case.

The dual-chamber cases are too thick for my desks, so they are an instant NO from me. I don't even really like their "fish tank" look.
I have a Corsair 5000D which is sort of ok, it has some really bad fitting parts in many areas, it is holding my Xeon W7-2495X, ASUS W790 ACE, 512GB, RTX3090. I used to buy NZXT cases like the H440, I still have a couple of them filled with X99 systems. I actually prefer the Lian Li cases now. I have a Lancool II Mesh for my R9-5950X, ASUS ROG X570, 128GB, RX7800XT. I just bought a new Lian Li Lancool III Mesh for my next system I am building now, an R9-7900X or the R9-9900X if it is better when it releases in a couple of weeks, ASUS ROG X670E, 192GB, RTX3080. I develop software and games, so I have many development and test systems here.

For cases: just buy a lian li lancool 216. it's around 140€ so on the expensive side but it's almost unmatched in terms of temps, it comes with 2 160ml fans up front (which is my favourite style of fan config when it comes to appearance) a fan in the back and an argb+fan hub.
The hub is holding 4 120ml arctic p12 argb fans and the two 160ml fans upfront all on its own, so you probably won't need more.
I have a 7800X3D with a Thermalright PA, and an ASUS TUF 7900xt in it and it's never given me problems, temps never go above 80°C for the CPU and 70°C for the GPU, tested in cinebench and Haven Benchmark 4.0 at max settings.

I'm not sure why with cases and monitors it seems like they get very expensive and are not better than competitors. For sure there is more competition these days, and some companies like Montech have figured out keeping production costs down with acceptable quality. Thumbs up.

I noticed this back in 2021 when they released the 4000d, 5000d, and 7000d. All the sheet metal used was incredibly thin and easy to bend. It wasn't quite paper, but it was far thinner than any case material I had encountered before. I was okay with this for the various panels, but for the fan mounts, it just seemed they were under-built. It was like the expectation was that fans would be installed, and the case could rely on the structure of the fan for overall rigidity. No bueno.
I can only assume since they got away with it with those cases, that mentality continued with subsequent product offerings. A real shame, since Corsair has been such a good brand, otherwise.
Someone should call their engineering dept. and let them know that heavy cases ARE okay. It's a desktop. Generally they aren't meant to be portable.

As someone who was a fan of corsair for years i’ve been recently super disappointed with them.
Its like they are so focused on iCue and creating this “corsair ecosystem” that they are screwing up the core products. iCue is meant to COMPLIMENT products and not be the product itself!
Just look at their fans’ pricing. Super out of touch. Their fans have the best lighting solution, yes, but is really worth more than a noctua? Their AIOs are the same. They are not competitive in terms of performance. The only upside is the software integration.
Till date my favourite case was the 600T. Legendary case which showed the world what a gaming case can be and set the standard. But gone are those days.

I built my newest gaming pc in the 6500X. It definitely has a few pain points that make you wonder what they were thinking. The biggest one to me is the harddrive bay. It just makes zero sense. I would have rathered they push the power supply further to the bottom and then bring the harddrive bay with it.

  • @RANDOMNATION907

The only Corsair case that ever sparked my interest was the Air 540, in a lay-down configuration. Like the Cooler Master HAF XB EVO. Although I feel the EVO is superior in every way to the 540, the 540 was refined and elegant (in appearance). I wish Case designers would design more "Dual-chamber" cases in the lay-down configuration. The case I am absolutely going to buy for my next PC build that will (must) last me five years minimum, is the Montech King 95 (non-pro). Unless Asrock releases a FTB motherboard with the X870e chipset (which the King 95 doesn't have cutouts for the back connectors). Then I will have to re-evaluate. Or maybe I'll just get another EVO. Regardless, I'm sick and tired of current case designs. That's why I am so excited about the FTB mobo designs. It hopefully breaks the stagnation of current case designs.

I recently bought a Corsair Graphite 600T, cuz i saw it for a ridiculously low price and i wanted to treat myself.
So i bought it, i love how it looks, it's great to build in.
Then i stripped the panels and shrouds only to find the metal backbone of the case
IT'S EXACTLY THE SAME AS THE Corsair 4000, except that it has a 5.25" bay, but the shape, the gromits, almost literally everything is the same
Which honestly just leads me to believe, that they invented the Best case in 2013 and just put a different spin on it every now and then, but now since every case has to be minimalist, they can't really do no more spins or anything, so they try new stuff and they realise they haven't done anything new in 10 years, so they suck

I always like these guys and their take on products and some of their points are valid about the 6500. However, having a case sponsor for this video really puts objectivity in question here. I have built in the 6500 for clients and although it is clearly flawed, there are some excellent features as well. Also, there really needed to be some additional homework here by the reviewer.
    1) For instance, I ran into the issue with the screw on the case front door as well. However, Corsair provided guidance on this and explained that if an owner simply fully opens the door the first time, it will allow the screw to be removed. After the first removal, the screw now come out without issue every time. Is it an issue with QC? Somewhat. But not the huge issue it was presented as by the reviewer.
    2) Should the back panel be perfectly straight and not look like it was warped? Sure. But it locks into the back of the case solidly without any gaps. I don't know about the reviewer, but I never remove the back panel outside of when I'm working on a case, so who cares if it's not perfectly straight when removed?
    3) His claim that you could not use 140mm fans on the side panel was categorically untrue. I have three Thermaltake SWA fans on the 6500 I've been working on and they fit with no problem.
    4) Are the grommets in the white case a slightly different shade of white? Maybe, but in most builds, it won't even be seen.
    5) The thumbscrews on the PCIE slots? Really? I can't think of a single case where I've been able to unscrew these without a screwdriver. And I do 200 to 3oo build a year.
Now there are some things I wish had been addressed, especially around cable management and the drive sled (although most people rarely use the drive sled anymore) .
But for the sale prices you can easily find on these cases, this is a solid entry and worth a look.

Corsair was my goto, but their cost cutting in recent designs and they were also one of the manufactures that was putting glass on all sides with no concern for air flow in the late 2010s. Corsair feels like they are operating in a vacuum their prices only get higher and quality lower despite all of the competition in the space right now.
