It's always a good day when Decker shado uploads but it's an even better day when he uploads a movie review in regards to godzilla King Kong an the Kaiju universe ✨
Awesome review as always man, but I have to say..... Godzilla did own Kong. The "looks like Kong wins round 2" cut to literally 1 minute 21 or so seconds of human stuff, before cutting back to G standing up and Kong on the building. That 1m20s (ish) was basically Kong grabbing a crane and climbing that building before it cut back, the round never ended - that line was just a kind of bad/fun movie segue to cut from the fight to the humans. Not to mention the axe hitting G's face actually blew Kong backwards like 4 or 5+ city blocks and G just stumbles through a building and falls (I don't think the axe connected, I think the continuous stream of energy increasing exponentially due to Kong's trajectory overloaded it and it exploded point blank, otherwise G'd be pulling the axe out of his head like he did his leg - maybe not though, considering a feat of his looooooong past, I'll mention below but lets just say he has a very, very hard head). Anyway, "round 3" I guess, G beats Kong in like another 1 minute and maybe 5 seconds (less time than the cut from "round 2" was), easily. Soon as he gets that arm it was over - body slam, stomp attempt, another arm-grab and a toss using his mouth which sent Kong flying another 4 or 5+ city blocks (dislocating his arm when he got dragged before the throw as well) and then Feral quadruped G goes to town on Kong. Like, G basically had enough of his shit and it was over. Before that, he was laughing at Kong when he shot him out of the sky with his breath (yes, literally laughing). If G had a speck of malice towards Kong, he'd have vaporized him, not roared in his face to assert dominance. MVerse's G is not nice to his enemies and seemingly likes to decapitate them with some kind of force (same with Kong now that I think about it, maybe it's a Kaiju dominance thing when a kill is necessary). Have to understand, this is G not at his prime, but the "best he's ever been" in this universe according to the humans (his *prime* may be long past). G's been around for over 250 million years and he _tanked the damn extinction event meteor to the HEAD_ (that's the feat I alluded to above) - there's no way Kong is punching that hard. Not to mention Godzilla was eating nukes since 1950s Bikini Atoll "tests" which were actually attempts to kill him, not to mention eating an even stronger nuke while near death in KotM which, according to plan, only made him stronger (to clarify, the nuke energy/radiation made him stronger but he still tanked the concussive explosive vaporizing force point-blank, and this explosion completely dusted his entire underwater cave temple place). Compare this to 1970's (20 years after Bikini Atoll, during _Skull Island's_ events) Kong, who was almost burned to death by a pissed off Samuel L Jackson (and was cut open by a helicopter blade). There's supposedly word that blowing a hole to Hollow Earth drained G of half his strength (one of the writers or something said this) - some people deny that as true, but then imagine if a breath that size hit Kong. He's blanketed and dead, maybe with nothing left of him (the hole was big enough for him to climb through, after all, and none of the bedrock was displaced and piled anywhere, it was vaporized). Why wouldn't G just do that again if it costs him no energy or whatever (which would be odd, G doesn't have limitless energy). It also explains why Mecha was kicking his ass, when it's obvious Mecha G is essentially a glass cannon - stronger energy attacks than G, but the powered axe easily took off Mecha's limbs, while against G, it not only merely got stuck in his leg, but also whatever happened with the hit to the head, explosion or otherwise, which was enough force to, like I alluded to above, completely change Kong and all his weight's trajectory from flying through the air _down_ at G, to being sent the opposite direction multiple city blocks with enough force to skip across the ground a few times before hitting a building. Seriously re-watch the scene where Kong hits G in the head, it's almost comical how fast Kong leaves the screen via the explosion. Mecha had no chance against the axe. Pit Kong against Ghidorah. Hell, even Rodan. There's no reason Kong stands a chance, statistically. Kong is brave, but he is also young and dumb. Probably why G "spared" him (Kong was dying anyway) and just scoffed (yes, literally scoffed) before walking away - maybe with a lil' respect towards Kong. Edit ::: Way I see it, this fight was Spiderman (Kong) vs Hulk (G). Spiderman can dodge some of Hulk's blows, swing around things and hit him a few times, hell maybe even get a seriously high velocity multi-web-spring-loaded slingshot full body kick that hits Hulk with enough force to send him flying through a building or two before folding a semi in half and coming to a stop. Hulk will still get up, smack the dust off himself, and eventually catch hold of Spidey - and then Peter can kiss his ass goodbye if no mercy is involved, as the ragdolling shall henceforth commence. Ask Loki. Doesn't mean Spiderman isn't badass or anything.

Honestly it would've been kind of a nice easter egg that King Ghidorah's presence on Earth is what cause the storm to be super charged since we saw him simply being around caused massive storms to begin with.
I'm just wondering... How was "Godzilla" a word in sign language? Or did she say "Giant Lizard is not the enemy" and they assumed that mean "Godzilla"?
Gotta hand it to special effects team, they certainly gave it their all to provide a spectacle. As for me, King Kong vs Godzilla is a quintessential kaiju beat down movie in every way. The monsters have paper thin excuses for why and how they get to where they need to be for the plot’s sake. Akin to most kaiju films, the human elements of the story exist more so to fill in exposition and give a vague sense of urgency to the events happening around them, rather than be compelling subplots to the main event. As for that main event, King Kong vs Godzilla does not disappoint. The action shots are well composed, lighted, and choreographed and make for excellent popcorn entertainment. King Kong vs Godzilla is three, kick-ass kaiju killing battle-axes, outta five. The film easily could’ve made a four outta five if it weren’t for the lackluster human filler between kaiju clashes.
I love the part on King Kong Skull Island when he takes out that helicopter fleet. Although that was a unit my dad served in when he was in Vietnam during his second tour of duty, the 1st Aviation Brigade.
I remember being utterly baffled at how upset people were that Kong struggled so much against Godzilla in this movie. I mean for heaven's sake, it's a giant ape up against a living nuclear weapon, the fact Kong made it out of this movie ALIVE is victory enough to me, and I've been a Kong fan since the original black and white movie.
@@Scalesthelizardwizard You mean the original movie where King Kong spent half the movie drunk off his ass on Red Berry Juice and turned into a walking taser in the third act because reasons? Not exactly his best performance, and again I'm saying this as a Kong fan 😂
I personally like it very much that the movies got progressively more kaiju and fun. It is not a serious premise to begin with so i applaud them for going all in.
I believe the helicopter airlift was a reference to the original movie's (1962 King Kong Vs Godzilla) airlift scene where they drug King Kong to sleep and airlift him with helicopters and wire.
It's still my favorite of these Monsterverse movies. Godzilla vs Kong is my 2nd favorite. Yes, I was on Team Kong because I always root for the underdog.
@@ericgropuis It was way better than it had any right to be. Like, I was actually invested in the characters? I welled up at the end with the guy coming home and getting to eat a hot dog.
King of the Monsters was still my overall favorite. This film had alot of great action sequences though. The humans were still just there for filler of course. But massive monster brawls wins the day every time.
The hollow earth stuff was hinted at in Kong Skull Island. They drop bombs from helicopters that create a deep seismic vibrations and there’s a line how the beneath the bedrock is all hollow. Then kong shows up and the movie really starts.
Kong was always the underdog against Godzilla. But that’s exactly what makes him relatable to us and the fights thrilling. Not every monster needs to be OP all the time to have attracting qualities to it. I also think the axe made a rather clever equalizer that gives him a chance to level the odds. Curious to see what they’ll do with part 2.
Uh no kotm and gvk both focus more on the kaiju than the humans. Both movies had fast paced plots that had underdeveloped characters in between with very little character development except for a few. Both movies just focused on getting from one action scene to the next as quickly as possible. Only difference is kotm had more cutaways meanwhile gvk had less cutaways while simultaneously being more fast paced
@@Kaiju-bm4ts "Kotm didn't spend too much time away from the humans, GvK was just faster-paced with less cutaways to the humans." That's what you said. What you said sounds like a more roundabout version of what I said.
@@1krani actually no what you said was gvk got the pacing "perfectly" and kotm "spent too much time away from the monsters" when both movies literally do the same thing. What I said differs from what you said. I said kotm and gvk BOTH focused more on the kaiju than the humans. Only difference is one more has more cutaways than the other
@@Kaiju-bm4ts Analyze it however you want. All I know is that GvK never lingered on the humans long enough for me to get bored of them. Each of their scenes stayed exactly as long as it needed to, no more, no less. The same cannot be said for KotM.
I loved how pissed Godzilla got when he sensed the spirit of Ghidorah was revived by humans and he really gets pissed while fighting Kong he showed Kong no mercy.
oi! Decker! Loving the review as always AND THE VERY special effort of how you matched your colour hue to the backgrounds. Nice touch! Very nice touch.
The Tokyo fight scene was one of those few, rare scenes that I laughed from the pure thrill and joy of a big monster fight. 10/10 - not here for the humans, totally here for the big ol' monster mash.

Sparizawa actually didn't die according to one of the books, as well it's teased he's got some remnant of Ghidorah's Voice in his head... Mecha-Ghidora or Destroyah-idorah maybe? Also the future space creature could be Space Godzilla, although that is a lot of semi repeat characters...

I remember when the first Godzilla in this run came out and all we got was like five minutes of Godzilla and the Mutos on screen. Then the next movie you can see them trying to rectify this issue but they made everything so muddy and had the monsters fighting in storms and it just became hard to see. So I didn't have too high hopes for this one but man when it came out it tickled my fancy something fierce, it was almost too much when they went to hollow earth but ultimately I think it works more for the film than against it. All told I definitely think this is the best out of the bunch, and I am one hundred percent with you on this one Decker my dude it's a ride and you just have to enjoy it. Great job as always my friend
@@BladeAllen666 Yeah that's the in-universe explanation they give to have the storms there, but it doesn't change my opinion that it was a poor decision intended to hide what they may have feared was bad CGI. And they may have been right to do so but we'll likely never know. Quick edit I just wanted to point out that I've enjoyed all three of the Godzilla movies that have come out recently so I don't intend to sound harsh if it came across that way
I again was not disappointed with this movie. It's what a Kaiju movie is supposed to be. Glad it did as well as it did. Although, make a part 2 Godzilla vs Kong doesn't make much sense, since Godzilla already let him know who's boss and them teaming up at the end
How could you miss mentioning the Lethal Weapon reference where Kong pops his shoulder back into the socket by bashing it against a building? I think Lethal Weapon is even mentioned in the credits.
This movie had so much potential I'd be extremely curious to see what was up with Serizawa here, that name is too damn important for a literal nothing (screenwise). It feels like a whole bunch of stuff was either cut, or redone.
I love mechagodzilla I think that's my fav kaiju-human monster/mech, so his reveal in that lab area blew my feckin' mind. I never thought that was an eye at the beginning I thought maybe alien tech and I certainly didnt expect them to using a remnant of movies past to power the dang thing. Bernie killed it in a human role same with the lil girl who talked to Kong. I cant wait to see where they go from here.
The containment facility while poorly explained, is actually meant to keep Kong safe from the storms that are swallowing skull Island. Gia's people were the ewi (I hope I'm spelling that right) and they all went extinct because of the storm.
I actually read the book before I saw the movie, and there was a lot of shit left out, which was honestly a little jarring, but it helped understand what was going on in the movie better.
You know I love your videos Decker I mostly have it for background noise but I listen to everything you say about a movie and for the most part you really help me decide if I’m going to watch a movie and I honestly love it if I’m unsure about a movie I come here to kind of get an opinion
I just realised what they did with Ghidora skull and it basically possessing the mecha godzilla, is almost exactly like how when Megatron was resurrected into Galvatron lol.

I mean for heaven's sake, it's a giant ape up against a living nuclear weapon, the fact Kong made it out of this movie ALIVE is victory enough to me, and I've been a Kong fan since the original black and white movie.
I agree! I mean look at them like two fighters in a ring... godzilla had all the advantage! But king gave him a fight. That’s for damn sure
you do know in the original Kong won right?
@@Scalesthelizardwizard You mean the original movie where King Kong spent half the movie drunk off his ass on Red Berry Juice and turned into a walking taser in the third act because reasons? Not exactly his best performance, and again I'm saying this as a Kong fan 😂
@@metaloverlord7465 True but still doesn't change the fact that he won 😁
He dropkicked Godzilla and it was AWESOME.
I personally like it very much that the movies got progressively more kaiju and fun. It is not a serious premise to begin with so i applaud them for going all in.
Please do more Kong and maybe the older King Kong movies. They are so iconic it’s kind of a shame that you’ve never covered it at all.
I believe the helicopter airlift was a reference to the original movie's (1962 King Kong Vs Godzilla) airlift scene where they drug King Kong to sleep and airlift him with helicopters and wire.
"Except Kong Skull Island. Hopefully that movie isn't important."
Is the plot really important when it comes to any of these movies?
It's still my favorite of these Monsterverse movies. Godzilla vs Kong is my 2nd favorite. Yes, I was on Team Kong because I always root for the underdog.
Lol not really but let’s you see Kong in a stand alone movie plus it’s probably imo the best Monsterverse movie
yes if you want to learn more about Kong puls it's a good movie
@@ericgropuis It was way better than it had any right to be. Like, I was actually invested in the characters? I welled up at the end with the guy coming home and getting to eat a hot dog.
@@TelenTerror It did the best human characters I’ve seen in a Kaiju movie and made me care about them
I like how Decker keeps putting himself into the movie.
Am I the only person that liked Kyle Chandler's character from KOTM so much that I was utterly disappointed when he wasn't a main character in GvK?
4:12 I'm surprised that with CNN's current reputation, they didn't report a "Fiery but peaceful Godzilla attack"
"It's whisky" "Yeah, but it's in a gun holster." Decker "That's the only proper way to take a shot." OMG, Bravo! Bravo!
Nice it's good to see Decker making more giant monster content again
FINALLY.
This is the film where they finally got the pacing down _perfectly_ after King of the Monsters spent too much time away from the monsters.
Bruh what?
Uh no kotm and gvk both focus more on the kaiju than the humans. Both movies had fast paced plots that had underdeveloped characters in between with very little character development except for a few. Both movies just focused on getting from one action scene to the next as quickly as possible. Only difference is kotm had more cutaways meanwhile gvk had less cutaways while simultaneously being more fast paced
@@Kaiju-bm4ts
"Kotm didn't spend too much time away from the humans, GvK was just faster-paced with less cutaways to the humans."
That's what you said.
Only difference is one more has more cutaways than the other
@@Kaiju-bm4ts
Analyze it however you want. All I know is that GvK never lingered on the humans long enough for me to get bored of them. Each of their scenes stayed exactly as long as it needed to, no more, no less. The same cannot be said for KotM.
"Except Kong Skull Island. Hopefully, that movie isn't important."
Me: Please review it Decker
You really blasted through the best fight in the movie with a 10 second summary
I loved how pissed Godzilla got when he sensed the spirit of Ghidorah was revived by humans and he really gets pissed while fighting Kong he showed Kong no mercy.
And the one thing they made the movie clear that Godzilla really hasn't turned on humanity he was mostly destroying Apex facilities
This gave me Transformer vibes in the sense of them adding lots of human characters when we just want to see big things fight each other
oi!
Amazing review as always. I absolutely agree about where to take the Monsterverse next. We NEED Legendary’s take on Gigan.
Fun fact Gigan was originally was supposed to appear in the king of the monsters
As a native Texan, I respect your Dr. Pepper t-shirt. Texas is truly awesome, but I digress. Thanks for this video. I never would've watched this movie on my own, but your review shows that it would've been a really fun ride.
Great video, as always, Derek Shadow!
Heck yeah, this is what wednesdays are all about!!! Cheers, Decker!
Decker, you're the best movie reviewer on UA-cam imo
Is that T-shirt a Godzilla 1985 reference? If so, well done...
We’ll see Destroyah in future instalments. The use of the oxygen destroyer in King of the Monsters is essentially setting it up
I had just done a rewatch of the Rocky films... and then binged your reviews! Subscribed and love your style
11:17 .. and the award for THE BEST segway goes to Decker
I haven't seen one of your reviews in a long time! Glad to have seen one again, as I had forgotten how entertaining you make your videos are.
Been working hard on getting the algorithm to like me again. 😅 UA-cam seems to really not care for 1 video a week, it MUST be at least 2.
Baking cookies on Sunday didn't get clicked on all that much by fans of riffing movie reviews, but it did get UA-cam to actually show people this video exists!
Hey dude do you do requests?
I absolutely loved this movie
The whole middle Earth when king kong goes down there that's scene was iconic!
This movie definitely lived up to the hype imo!
Glad you enjoyed it but imo it’s just a fun campy movie and a lot of things about it just don’t make sense to me. I loved how realistic G14 was which is why I loved that movie
@@-slice-6103 yeah Godzilla versus Kong wasn't a good film.
As a lifelong Godzilla fan it's one of the first movies that i actually almost walked out.
Used to putting up with bizarre plots from Godzilla movies.
This one borrows from the previous films but completely ignores all the lore that they set up.
@@diobrando5896 I just loved how we get human POVs in Godzilla 2014 and that we see a regular family and also an obsessed man who’s wife was victim to MUTO activity. We see that family trying to get away from this mess. But in GVK we just see Millie Bobby Brown trying to get in the middle of the whole Godzilla mess lol. Would’ve worked better as an animated movie
@@-slice-6103 It's supposed to be that the main draw is having godzilla fight King Kong If you make it too complex it's going to be hard to make that happen
Hey you guys bitch at godzilla 99 so I'm assuming you like this better than that it might not be a 100% what you expected but at least it wasn't as bad as 1999
@@187mrsmith I honestly enjoyed Godzilla 1998 as a kaiju movie more than GVK. But as a Godzilla movie ofc I enjoy GVK more. The exact plot would’ve just worked well in an animated movie. Like the animated godzilla that used the zilla design. That wouldn’t of had worked in live action
i wonder how well a movie would do if it was just a still image of godzilla playing various godzilla sound effects over and over again
I swear I spent half the movie trying to figure out which humans we were supposed to have seen before. It was just Madison and her father right? Honestly still not sure.
Yeah just them two
I'm just gonna make an educated guess that everyone wants him to review Kong skull island and he knows it.
A Fantastic Review, full of Decker's Enthusiasm. Bloody Lovely. In fact, I think this Review is better than the Movie.
Heroes: The bad guys built an anti-kaiju weapon!
Me: Sounds like a reasonable precaution, to me.
The only reason they are bad is because they made it as volatile as it was possible. I mean why use the skull of a psychic monster!!! Literaly there would be no conflict if they were not acting like saturday cartoon villains.
@@Raximus3000 this ghidorah is well know to pull bs like that
@@dantewilliams2757
Unless it hypnotised them to build mecha godzilla it is all on them!
@@Raximus3000 building a defense against the Kaiju isn’t a problem using a monster solely bent on destroying life to build it is even older Godzilla movies had mogira and kiryu thigh kiryu isn’t a very good example
@@dantewilliams2757
They did not just use the bones they used the psychic link of 2 skulls. Not an expert but wouldn't that mean there is "brain activity" in them and thus a bad part to use especialy if you add the energy that is basicaly the thing that allows them to function.

King Kong:
"You ever dance with the Devil
in the pale moonlight?"

just what I needed for my wind down. love you Decker!
I hope you see this! You don’t have to respond but know that I have loved what you have done for the critic scene on UA-cam. You make it enjoyable while still getting down to the point! I hope everything is going wonderfully!
That's cause Ghidorah had the power to manipulate the weather with his wings is because of the storms.
@@BladeAllen666 Yeah that's the in-universe explanation they give to have the storms there, but it doesn't change my opinion that it was a poor decision intended to hide what they may have feared was bad CGI. And they may have been right to do so but we'll likely never know. Quick edit I just wanted to point out that I've enjoyed all three of the Godzilla movies that have come out recently so I don't intend to sound harsh if it came across that way
The Legendary Godzilla movies are their own kind of great, I would love to see their take on Gigan and Space Godzilla
Well the novels hint towards a possible Space Godzilla of sorts
Very entertaining video, and your like/subscribe solicitation was hilarious 😂
9:11 nice way to disguise the 98 Godzilla “ that a lot of fish “ reference 😂
They could have just eliminated what they called a "plot" and gone bananas with nothing but Kaiju fights for 2+ hours. Isn't that what fans wanted?
Would have been 💯 percent better than ANY of these human character bits
They kind of did that in the last movie and people bitched and moaned it wasn't good enough.
Yes, but VERY expensive.
Then its not a movie
That'd be like john wick 1 cutting the puppy killing part. The rest of the movie wouldn't make sense
Really enjoying the new editing style decker ❤️✌🏼
“Legendary Giagan When,”
Literally my dream for legendary pictures.
Another movie on my list I decided to let Decker spoil for me. Totally worth the watch 😂
If CNN reported on a Godzilla attack, they'd probably end up blaming institutional racism somehow
If anything it's shocking they didn't call the attack "mostly peaceful."
Solid puns Decker! I’m loving it!
I again was not disappointed with this movie. It's what a Kaiju movie is supposed to be. Glad it did as well as it did. Although, make a part 2 Godzilla vs Kong doesn't make much sense, since Godzilla already let him know who's boss and them teaming up at the end
Mechagodzilla looks so goofy, but at the same time, the design of it makes sense.
Personally, I don't care about this movie. I just love Decker's reviews. That is all.
Really enjoy all your videos. Thank you for alot of really enjoyable videos
How could you miss mentioning the Lethal Weapon reference where Kong pops his shoulder back into the socket by bashing it against a building? I think Lethal Weapon is even mentioned in the credits.
this is my favorite video made by decker, really funny.
Great review -- and yes, the movie was everything I wanted from a Kaiju movie.
14:43 is that an Elden Ring reference you dropped, Mr. Shado?
This movie had so much potential
I'd be extremely curious to see what was up with Serizawa here, that name is too damn important for a literal nothing (screenwise). It feels like a whole bunch of stuff was either cut, or redone.
Been waiting for this one decker.
Thanks Decker shado for another great video.
I remember this movie well. It was very stupid, and so incredibly entertaining. Kong was fantastic in particular. Love the big ape.
L
I’m ok p
The containment facility while poorly explained, is actually meant to keep Kong safe from the storms that are swallowing skull Island.
Gia's people were the ewi (I hope I'm spelling that right) and they all went extinct because of the storm.
He needs protection from a storm that’s dumb he’s lived on the island his whole life already surrounded bye a storm and he’s King Kong
Love your reviews! You are the man xo
The cg was pretty dang good in this movie
The review we’ve all been waiting for…
Finally great quality contents as always 👌
They always have to buff the monkey and nerf the lizard.
I actually read the book before I saw the movie, and there was a lot of shit left out, which was honestly a little jarring, but it helped understand what was going on in the movie better.
And you gotta admit, this is 2021 best representation of Godzilla vs Kong ever! And point frankly most more better than the 1962 King Kong vs Godzilla
11:15 that was hilarious decker! Good on ya.
Audible, "fuck yeah!". When I saw the upload!. Your a great channel best hair!
Great review. You don't do end credits no more ?
Lol this is why we love you Decker. Man who understands his kaiju films. I do agree that there was a lot of hype for Godzilla to win. And as a Godzilla fan boy I'm happy he won. But I do like how they gave them both a win. Godzilla wins the fight. Kong wins the movie. They both at some point get spanked and both get to be the ones delivering the spanking
I swear to god somebody should b making a roller coster ride revolving around Godzilla, Kong, Mothra, Rodan, Gamera etc etc it would b awesome
Yes yes yes. Long day I needed this !!!
What's up brother!!?? Good to see you!
