what I got from this episode is that a missile is cheaper than a iPhone
If you really want to have your mind blown, you can build one in your back yard for about $100 and some manual labor, especially if accuracy is not a main concern.

It should be noted that anyone who hears a rocket warning siren still needs to get to a bomb shelter within 15-60 seconds. Iron Dome turns rockets into shrapnel, which is still dangerous.

As a Tel Avivian I can tell you that during the latest conflict people didn't just go camp in the woods. We all had 90 seconds to run to a shelter, because Iron Dome does not give a 100% guarantee.

I really dislike how nowadays a youtube vid can't talk about hot button political topics without the algorithm punishing the creator. I mean, yeah, promoting a video with a political slant (and any video about a current day political topic is going to have a political slant) would be problematic for youtube, but I feel like the current system stifles open and honest political debate.
Sadly there are huge numbers of people who consider people with different views than theirs being a reason for a boycott of advertisers. So to keep advertisers happy, they can't have balanced analysis of matters.
The problem long term is that this ensures that the kind of people who would boycott simply due to balanced news coverage never realise that they themselves have an extremist view.
On top of this, there are sometimes issues that are simply black and white and right and wrong. You're already dealing with people pushing the wrong side of those. This is done by overworked and underpaid people having to sort either the news or the UA-cam algorithm.

It’s so frustrating that videos like this get demonetized. RLL and his team do tons of research to present a fair, technical breakdown of the military technology while avoiding bias as much as they can, and then they can’t profit off of this informative video. Thank you for making this RLL.

Less likely to do well? Comments make a video get seen more. Dislikes make a video get seen more. As long as there is engagement whether it be positive or negative on a video it is more likely to be seen. Which also means it's more likely to do well.

If all goes to plan, it should be able to bring down missiles at a cost of $3 each

If America's leadership was smart, we'd be working overtime on laser defense systems ourselves to stop hypersonic missiles (China's building a sizable arsenal of them, while Russia has now actually used them in combat). Goes to show how the Israelis are often one step ahead of nearly everybody.

From what I remember Israel is now developing a laser-based replacement to Iron Dome, which would have a hefty initial price but from then on interceptions would be practically free by comparison (just the cost of electricity and that's about it).
Anyway great video and it's a shame YT doesn't allow such topics to be explored

how is that even possible?, there is a weapon like this America is making but its for closer range and it needs a good minute to fry a boat engine, there is no way they can shoot down a rocket a thousand meters in the air, unless they are hiding some technology
@@besher532 I think it's just a concentrated beam that heats the rocket up, creates dents and fractures in the rocket, and than lets aerodynamic forces rip the fing apart
@@besher532 The US uses 30kW-50kW lasers in our systems, while the Israelis use 100kW-150kW in theirs, so their range is FAR greater. Also, the boat analogy isn't really accurate, as rockets are carrying an explosive payload and so even a few seconds of concentrated heat can easily cause them to explode (it's similar to how the most vulnerable point on a ship is the ammunitions locker), while a patrol boat is just a lot of inert metal that won't auto-ignite.

The economic cost was a major reason why the *Iron Beam* was developed. At $3.50USD per shot, and an magazine only limited by the power grid, it’s the perfect defence against saturation attacks.

Basically the “Iron Dome” system is very good at its job but if it’s facing hundreds to thousands of rockets fired simultaneously then it’s almost impossible for it to take out every threat meaning some get through to there targets. Also find it kind of crazy that some of Hammas missles cost less than my iPhone 15 pro max, that is crazy always thought missles were at least a couple thousand on the lower end.
Things can get very cheap if you skip on everything except the essentials.
A car that has barely more than an engine and wheels would be very cheap. The extra stuff (brakes, gear shift, mirrors) costs extra.
If you want a rocket that flies and goes boom, that's cheap. If you want to make sure it doesn't backfire in your face (like ~30% of Palestinian rockets), that costs extra.

The Iron Dome is how I got to have a childhood. It's why Palestine still exists, as Israel does have the military power to completely flatten both Gaza and the West Bank at once, it's just not worth it strategically OR morally unless your citizens' houses are knocked down every few months.

The fact that most rockets aren't guided and are just launched en mass just to blindly destroy as much of the country as possible, knowing very well that the chance that striking not the civils but an actual military important target is extremely small, is even worse
They aren't doing that to remove a threat or disable the opposing military, but just to cause as much suffering as possible to weaken the country. They are killing thousands of innocents, not caring if they are children or eldery, just to harass them.

@@mohameddz5225 From what I understand, the conflict started from the escalation of violence between muslims and jews, especially in jerusalem, so there isn't an "evil" country that started it all, it's more like independent fights that grew into an international conflict.
But no matter who started the fight or who is the bad guy, launching thousands of rockets on civilians will not solve anything at it's core.
And as the United Nations, European Union and even some Israeli officials consider these rockets as terrorism and several human rights group consider this as war crime, all of which probably did more thorough research that both you and me, I think we can all agree that this should just not happen.

I live in israel, and that`s not what happens. the videos that captured all these moments are people not entering the mandatory bunkers nearly every house and building has, and truly believing the Iron Dome will protect them, which is a much more significant mortality rate of rocket attack victims than you would think
