Uncovering Abandoned 1950's Retro Diner | Everything eerily left behind

  • Sitting vacant along a US interstate lies a time capsule that will send you back a half century. This diner has everything 1950's about it. Cherry red seats, a bar, a jukebox and more. This all creates an amazing atmosphere inside. Once inside you start to realize that the place is still dirty and plates are still on tables with coffee and filled condiments. Although it is indeed a time capsule it is equally eerie as it is interesting to view how this business just shut down overnight. We will look around and see what parts of the story we can out together from this once open location. If you enjoyed the video, please leave a thumbs up! and subscribe for more exploring content!

My wife and I owned a 50's diner. When we closed, we were able to sell all the decor and appliances. I can't imagine them leaving all that behind especially the jukebox unless it will have new owners. Needs a kitchen overhaul though, they let the grill and fryers ruin.

Always loved the look of these places! It's the Denny's "Classic Diner" concept/format from the early 2000's. There are actually quite a few of them. Interestingly the ceiling is made of plastic. It's a drop ceiling grid just like acoustical tiles, except there are drop-in plastic panels made to look like old fashioned tin ceilings. Keep up the awesome work!

In the 1980s and into the 1990s, there was a trend to set up these faux 1950s diners. Most of the surviving ones were established during that time period, but, with the passage of time, they're not as common as they once were. Of course, there are a few places left today that are REAL 1950s establishments (or similar style that go back as far as the 1930s), but this one definitely isn't.

      "More than you wanted?"
Um. Yeah, its a 24/7 job. The overhead is insane. I knew a guy who had a barbershop. Four chairs was like 5 grand a month rent. That was 25 years ago.
I take care of pets (usually. Dogs). You miss holidays, there are few vacations and so on. Plus, rich people try to chew down your prices while crying poor.
They're lying. B/c then the go buy an 875k house as they're thinking "eff them" (meaning YOU).
      done it 35 years.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 Yeah my dad was always on call. One reason why I don't slam Mcdonalds franchisees THAT much is the average Mcds doesn't actually net an owner what some think (it's over 100k typically) but the work owners put in makes them earn it. I briefly worked at McDs for 6 months and the owner of those (they owned 12) built a 1.5 mil house. My only beef was that they don't like paying OT or holiday pay. Not to say that they COULD probably raise wages 1-2 bucks across the board. But if you progress, salaries are fairly good. You CAN Make 6 figures at McDs eventually.
Back to overhead and food estab ownership, some people definitely think that even if you hire a solid manager, you'd free. LOL

In Colorado the chain was Gunther Tooties. I pulled up their current website there are none in Colorado anymore and the new design looks like Starbucks cloned them. There was one near Cinderella City and in Arvada. Correction: found the Colorado ones. This is copied from their site: The first Gunther Toody’s opened in Colorado Springs, CO. A small 100-seat diner came alive and brought with it the sights, sounds and feel of the 1950’s. From the moment the doors opened, Gunther Toody’s became an American classic. Folks lined up around the block to get breakfast and burgers. After much success, Gunther Toody’s ventured to Denver, opening its 2nd location in 1989. It was not long before there was a huge following for our fresh home-cooked food and sassy energetic service, all presented in a fun 50’s atmosphere. Today, with 5 locations in Denver and Colorado Springs, Gunther Toody’s represents what it means to be a great American diner.

The owners could probably make a pretty penny renting it to film studios doing period pieces on the 1950's. This place would have fit in nicely in Back to the Future part one.

Hi there. So it looks like water contamination was the reason for the sudden closure of the restaurant. I hope noone got sick or worse before that was discovered. Also, I wonder what it was like for all who worked there to learn they were out of business and or a job with little or no notice. Thank you so much for this video.

You might want to log into that counties Department of health website. The place appears to have been closed abruptly which would suggest a serious violation was found. Given the reputation of Denny's I would not be shocked, their food is awful!
I do hope someone with vision buys the place, I've been in a few diners like that were the food was excellent.

@@windsofmarchjourneyperrytr2823 That usually depends upon where it's located. But it is true that some places are more lax than other's. It also depends upon the degree of the offense. Minor easily fixed problems though noted will be waived upon immediate correction, though if a return inspection finds the same minor offenses repeated it will weigh against them.
The Rat situation usually calls for an inspection to determine if the rodents have taken up residency, if it's discovered that the rodents arrived with a shipment of food, the place is given 24 hours to discard the contaminated shipment, clean up the place and make sure that it is clear of any further unwanted guest, if the rat's are found to have taken up residency in the building, the place is to remain closed until all vermin have been eliminated, any potential entrances for them have been sealed, and the Resturant is cleaned and purged of any potentially contamined food and passes a follow up inspection. At least that's the way it's supposed to work. Again, it depends upon where it's located.

That is a former Boomerangs Diner!!! Still open in parts of Oklahoma and maybe Arkansas. I don't know about other states!! The design is part of their concept. One can see the shape of boomerangs in the different colors on the tabletop. IF it had horrible reviews it was due to poor management, because it has a decent menu and great food when operated right!

This diner appears to have been built in the mid to late 1990s or early 2000s and does not appear to be an actual 1950s diner.
It was likely purpose built as a Denny’s Diner, which were Denny’s themed to look like 1950s diners.
On the surface, they did a good job of making it look authentically 1950s, but upon closer look the materials are newer and sometimes imitation, such as the tin looking ceiling tiles that are likely plastic placed in the drop ceiling grid.
The kitchen walls in an authentic diner would most likely have been all stainless steel, ceramic coated brick, or ceramic tile. Here, there are kitchen walls with plastic paneling.
The kitchen was filthy and was clearly filthy even before abandonment.
It’s a shame that they didn’t keep the kitchen properly cleaned or make good food. Traditional diner food is actually delicious when made right.
It’s odd that the water was contaminated. I wonder if this diner had city water, or if it used well water. City water should have been clean, and if it wasn’t it would have most likely impacted all the other local city water customers.
It’s odd and gross that they would leave maple syrup behind and leave oil in the fryers.
