I'm heading out next week to go diving for crays for the first time, this video was perfect and was exactly what I was looking for! Awesome channel as well I just subbed :)
Choice vid Mad Mick ! Good tips on catching those cray lobster thingys ... do you ever get bit by eels or wobblygongs ? Have you ever had your arm stuck in a lobsters hole ?
Gday mate my names mobs(sydney home), this is the most informative video on getting crays i've seen, i've been spearing for 2years but focused on fish,(maori decent) i love fish, problem is my ma is patiently waiting for me to finally get her a cray,i bought a boat (ROAM) to go out to chase fish but i rock hop alot too(pre covid lockdown)jst wondering is is common to find crays in fairly shallow waters
Kia ora Mobs, thanks for the comment and the support. The short answer is yes, you can find crays and slipper bugs just fine rock hopping and in shallow water. Depending in how popular the spot is will depend on whats around. Never hurts to keep an eye where the terrain looks good for crays, that is cunji, kelp, weed and crevices. Mad mick one pulled s solid 1kg cray from the water right next to a salt water pool full of swimmers just south of wollongong.
@@ilexwang715 yeah right, well as you probably experienced they have a good grip and their claws are pretty sharp, we hold them by thee base of their antennae or their backs plus if their tale flicks the spines on that can do some damage

Great video !
You say to make sure to wear gloves 🧤, is this because they bite or just for the rocks and sharp bits on the Crays ?
Cheers
Thanks mate! Between the rocks and the incredibly sharp spines on the lobsters, gloves save you a lot of pain.
