  • I have been blessed with lots of cool encounters in the ocean this year and here are some of the halibut that I was lucky enough to have taken on film or just see. This footage was from all over southern california with a mix of boat and shore dives. I hope you enjoy.

    Amazing video!!! I probably didn't see 3/4 of the halibut in the sand until you scared them off speared them. LOL I'd love to try free diving one day.

    Damn, I don't know if I could even see them like you guys do! Great job. I'm rod & reel, but I appreciate you guys! Great job!

    I love stumbling upon these guys, but every time I hunt them I feel like I’m just dragging my face in the sand 😂😂 happy hunting 🤙

    Really respect your skills, I've always been a rod and reel fisherman, but considering i love surfing and snorkeling, im more and more drawn to spear fishing. Cant wait until i get my first flattie on a breath hold.

    Awesome video, I’d also went spearfishing a week ago and caught one of those halibuts on my channel.

    Troy, this is a compilation from lots of dives from islands and local. Some of the clearest water however was from laguna before it was all taken away from us and made into an MLPA. From time to time it gets clear locally too.

    Great Video. I live in the San Diego area, and hunt often for Hali. I noticed you have a light attached to your gun. I hunt generally during the day. Does the light help locate flatties at all? I have never thought to add light duing the day. P.S. to all the haters out there that can only add negative comments to this amazing sport, go *%&$ yourself!

    Are 2 rubber slings necessary to catch those...seems like you don't even need to shoot but poke them not too hard though.

    • @japaneseboy3
      @japaneseboy3 3 роки тому +1

      Yeah but you can start off by measuring and marking on your spear/speargun to get an idea of what it looks like when magnified underwater. It’ll still be trial and error, but as long as you learn from it.
      If there’s any doubt that if it’s legal or not, I don’t even bother.

      just mark it on your gun if your not sure. as time goes on you will naturally know if the fish is under size limit. plus if you're debating on weather its under size, just leave it alone and move on.

    how could you be so ignorant? he is clearly an experienced fisherman and the reason that hailbut are dieing is not spearfishers feeding themselves it's huge ships that trawl the sea and suck the life out of it. so what if it's legal? he isn't hurting the population at all all these laws passed don't help fight the big ships from overfishing the shit out of everything they just stop the little guy getting a healthy good meal.

      christian castro it's well camouflaged for one so you can't always tell where it ends and the sand begins. Also you're getting tossed around a bit by currents/swells/your own buoyancy and momentum.
