- I have been blessed with lots of cool encounters in the ocean this year and here are some of the halibut that I was lucky enough to have taken on film or just see. This footage was from all over southern california with a mix of boat and shore dives. I hope you enjoy.

Amazing video!!! I probably didn't see 3/4 of the halibut in the sand until you scared them off speared them. LOL I'd love to try free diving one day.
Damn, I don't know if I could even see them like you guys do! Great job. I'm rod & reel, but I appreciate you guys! Great job!
I love stumbling upon these guys, but every time I hunt them I feel like I’m just dragging my face in the sand 😂😂 happy hunting 🤙
Really respect your skills, I've always been a rod and reel fisherman, but considering i love surfing and snorkeling, im more and more drawn to spear fishing. Cant wait until i get my first flattie on a breath hold.
Awesome video, I’d also went spearfishing a week ago and caught one of those halibuts on my channel.
But how do you even see them! Lol. Some nice hunts bro! 👍
Troy, this is a compilation from lots of dives from islands and local. Some of the clearest water however was from laguna before it was all taken away from us and made into an MLPA. From time to time it gets clear locally too.
awesome video man, thanks for making it. it gives me hope!
Now thats my Kind of Video! Thanks for Posting!
really nice vid, wish i were there. oh and cool soundtrack.
great vid it teaches alot about the habitat of halibut if you pay close attention
Beautiful!
Great video, thanks!
pretty awesome video!
Really fun to watch video dude, gotta respect a man that does his own grocery shopping. Keep em' comin'. Oh, and "dont kill them all, Waaahhhh" :)
super jealous. Rad vid.
Omg I bet those were delicious. Hope I can spear one someday.
Nice Hunting!!!!!
The gun with the double flopper is a custom gun built specifically for halibut hunting. 36 inch midhandle with double flopper.
Beautiful
How the hell do you miss something staying still
good spotting!
Very cool.
They're hard to spot. I shot a few rocks while learning to spot them.
Great Video. I live in the San Diego area, and hunt often for Hali. I noticed you have a light attached to your gun. I hunt generally during the day. Does the light help locate flatties at all? I have never thought to add light duing the day. P.S. to all the haters out there that can only add negative comments to this amazing sport, go *%&$ yourself!
@bodjanace Glad to share it. Thanks dude!
nice video
badass!!!
Hey was that a spare shaft/light holder on your Riffe? If so where did you get it from?
Yo how deep was it when you speared the halibut?
when you shoot the halibut can you swim up to the top or are they too strong and would they pull you down?
Is it hard to see them or is that just the camera in the water?
Are 2 rubber slings necessary to catch those...seems like you don't even need to shoot but poke them not too hard though.
water is so clear! whats the exact location
thanks
What kind of spear fishig equipment are you using? The name brand and cost?
how do you miss a fish thats not moving? Ha nice work.
Just have to see enough of them and then you will start to know. It's tough though at times when they aren't exposed at all.
just make sure they are reg sizes. some of the ones you're going for seem a bit small
Basically just eyeballing it though right
Yeah but you can start off by measuring and marking on your spear/speargun to get an idea of what it looks like when magnified underwater. It’ll still be trial and error, but as long as you learn from it.
If there’s any doubt that if it’s legal or not, I don’t even bother.
@@japaneseboy3 wow you text back quick for a 5year old comment 😂
@@user-uh2pk8nj6v Yeah it's pretty wild that I still use UA-cam huh
I have the 100x and its great
damn u a lucky man
This water is so clear where is it? when i lived in socal it was never this clear
God, I'm so hungry now!
This was off which island?
what is a good place for getting halibut in so cal?
The music is Mother By Pink floyd.
Hey what gun are you using?
My brother and I live in Socal any good locations you want to share for shore dives.. were just starting out
hmmm what is the advantage of having a double flopper?
I have a question
How hard is it to determine legal size while spear fishing?
i had wondered this ... then i just figured go big or don't shoot is the answer. never be under allways be over sorta mentality.
Matthew Muhlberg you can tell how big they are after spearfishing for years.
just mark it on your gun if your not sure. as time goes on you will naturally know if the fish is under size limit. plus if you're debating on weather its under size, just leave it alone and move on.
Takunna where in Cali r u spear fishing
Whats one good spot near la and i am a beginner do you know a guide who could teach me how to and where to dive?
Sorry, but shore diving locations have been minimized since the MLPAs drastically. I suggest exploring with your buddy. That's half the fun anyways.
what fish is that at 1:03
Nice video, but you must shoot fast, and try to shoot beetwen the eyes.
***** The color of the water looks more like mexico. Is this San Diego or what? theres no way this is OC or LA
wow facevi prima ad andare da nonna isa a comprarti una sogliola certo che con il doppio elastico l'hai uccisa?
how could you be so ignorant? he is clearly an experienced fisherman and the reason that hailbut are dieing is not spearfishers feeding themselves it's huge ships that trawl the sea and suck the life out of it. so what if it's legal? he isn't hurting the population at all all these laws passed don't help fight the big ships from overfishing the shit out of everything they just stop the little guy getting a healthy good meal.
What's the music?
pwellsyful It's a cover instrumental of "Mother" Pink Floyd from The Wall
how the fuck you miss a stationary target
christian castro by not hitting it.
christian castro it's well camouflaged for one so you can't always tell where it ends and the sand begins. Also you're getting tossed around a bit by currents/swells/your own buoyancy and momentum.

Is there any point anyone asking a question on here? Nobody gets an answer, wouldn’t subscribe to such a rude channel.
