Hostiles is such an underrated movie, and I urge everyone to watch it, even if you watch this video first. It really pulls you into the tragedy of that era. It's also a cinematic masterpiece, as many of the shots are perfectly filmed. Christian Bale also, I think, did some of his best acting in this movie, It feels very real, and authentic.

One of the best westerns of the last decade.
So true, so true! We need more deep and thoughtful movies like these with a western setting.
The best

What else would you say is up there? What do you think of 3:10 to Yuma and Appaloosa?
Christian Bale is a phenomenal actor. His body of work is becoming legendary.
Oh, without a shadow of a doubt!
one of my all-time favorite films. cinematography so well done, beautiful landscape shots, unbelievable performance's the emotional output. by every single one of the actors. one of the few movies i could watch every couple days and still have eyes glued to the screen.
@@arnoldjanikowski7122 And that music... sublime.
@@jonbaxter2254 simply a masterpiece
I was watching this thinking the same thing. He's been acting since he was a child and from the first to the last, he brings the goods every single time. I can't think of a single lazy performance.
It was a crime that Bale wasn’t nominated for a best actor Oscar for this
Too white these days
hollywood is a piece of shit is why
Or Rory Cochran for Best supporting actor
Bale absolutely nailed this role. Great movie!
My father is Native American and loved westerns. When I heard about this movie, I wanted to watch it with him, then he got his cancer diagnosis. I left for the military, and he passed while I was gone. I finally watched this film on the flight home for his funeral. I will never not cry over this movie or it’s soundtrack, and it will always be his to me.
My condolences, sir.
Rispetto, dalla lontana Italia.
Sorry for your loss
a shame you betrayed your people by joining the same regime that wiped most of us out
Lol it ain't that deep
As a combat Veteran, this movie resonates in a way that... it's hard to explain. I love Westerns, but this movie is so much more than that.
Thank you for your service.
It will never go away, and no medicine will fix it, no amount of drink will numb it away, it will be their forever. We went on deployment that version of us, we came back a different version. Our old self is gone and we can never get it back, its gone. Mine as well be dead and buried, we are who we are now. This world is hard, once you see it, you cannot unsee it. It is there forever.
War is a pair of 20/20 glasses. Not while you are in it, but when you step away. I’ve never seen this movie, but this clip seems to sum it up well. War is hyped in a young troop. It has to be hyped in order for it to be effective. After coming back, I was able to see the whole elephant. I feel like this clip captures everything a warfighter can go through.

By every measure we judge a movies, this film was a spectacular work of art in every single one. Every time I watch it I find myself in awe of it's beauty and overcome with emotions like it was my first viewing.
It's a spectacular watch, so much story and emotion grounded in each sequence of events and visuals.

No, only sunken deeper into the abyss of immorality. The "American Soul" is now condemned.

This is not a film... This is a masterpiece 💔
Agree saw a week ago , still stuck in my mind.
AMEN !!!!
In the final scene, I am glad that the captain got on the train. That is where he should be, with her and the boy.
Yep. I was sure he’d get on the train with her and the boy….he was no fool and she loved him and he loved her. It’s in that love he’d be able to move on.
Made my heart happy after all the sorrow. Sometimes happiness is something you take.
First time I saw the film, at the ending I'm mentally shouting "Get on the train!!!!"
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news - He stayed until the last second because he wasn't going with them. He was just going the same direction. :(
Max richter's music just elevated this masterpiece movie to a whole different level
Agreed!
The costume design in this movie is very well done. Bale's outfit at the end of the movie is one of the most historically accurate 1890s suits I have seen in a movie.
I do second this.
Yes I really noticed that! Showing them externally cleaned up with the deep internal scares for life was powerful. To me it presented the dichotomy.

My grandpa is the reason I love westerns, I wish he was still alive to see this masterpiece.
If Christian Bale was only to be remembered for a single role, it should be Captain Joseph Blocker. This film is a masterpiece
It was sad. At the end of his career or more likely, like a lot of todays special operations servicemen he was used up, and while being only a captain, deemed not suitable for staff or command rank and duty. So the army sent him on a duty where they knew he was disposable to deliver his former adversary to his end along with his family to an unforeseeable future. The ending was uplifting. Peace.
This movie is so underrated. Bale was incredible in it
Agreed!
Truth, landscapes were stunning too
He has turned into an amazing actor to be sure
Absolutely One Of The Best Movies I have ever Seen.
Christian Bale will be recognized as one of the most amazing actors of our time.
A triumph of a movie on all fronts. Acting, historical perspective, tragedy, romance, balance of emotions that will make, you laugh, squirm a bit, perhaps cry, celebrate and hold onto things you were unsure of mattering to you. Grab some good popcorn, turnoff cellphones, grab some time for yourself to truly enjoy Hollywood at its best.
A great worded observation you just wrote there. I agree on all fronts with that.
I’ve never cried harder on a plane than when I watched this film haha. Simply amazing.
It's such a powerful movie, without a doubt!
I watched it on the plane to my father’s, a Native American, funeral while I was in basic training out west. It was other worldly, and I still cry from it
What airline were you on?
@@Godschild77786 Delta
@@anonymousmammal1741 I can only imagine that. So many emotions swirling round. An intense experience!
This is my favourite. I watch it over and over again. It teaches us what humanity means to everybody.
It's quite a deep and insightful film without a doubt. A piece of art.
This is one of my favorite movies. It's so real and tragic . It doesn't glorify either side nor does it demonize . It's a story about real people facing the tragedy and brutality of life . 10/10 movie seriously. 👏 the acting and writing is incredible
I’m a big believer in the respective stories of films connecting with their music/soundtracks, and the connection between this film’s story and its music is unbelievable. The emotions are everywhere and overwhelming. Incredible. Just incredible.
Richter elevates everything he does.
An amazing movie about war and forgiveness. Simply incredible. It's criminal that it doesn't get more attention and credit.
When this film was released here in Ireland;i had to ring around cineams in Dublin because this film done so poorly in its first few days that it got pulled. I found a cinema that was still showing it and when i sat down to watch it i was the only person there,i watched this masterpiece with total silenece, astounding film
Another movie that shows why Bale is the 🐐 actor for me. This movie was phenomenal and his acting was tremendous. 👏
He's certainly one of the living legends today in the field of acting.
I still remember him acting as a boy in a WW2 movie where a P-51 mustang flies over him! I knew he'd be a great actor. "Empire of the Sun"
As an indian(from India), I was really in shock from this movie. Until now all the westerns that I grew up watching were either cool or brutal. This was the first time I've ever realised the immense pain and the tragic suffering both the colonisers and the natives had to go through. The movie was so raw, leaves you wondering how messed up human beings can be. North America is sadly built on blood and horror(just like most of the places) Surely this has to be one of the darkests times in human history, it shows our true nature for material gain.
Yes sad on both sides, but remember colonisers had a choice. The indians had none.
@@dylanlam6430 You just really cannot pick up on a lesson can you? He had such an exceptionally well written paragraph discussing the horrors of humanity, particularly during this time but in general, and you immediately jump back to that weird shit. Truly, truly sad. Both equally wronged one another. Both equally suffered by one another. Both were equally human and both shared that horrible experience together. Neither could control the circumstances that lead them to their conflict but they both chose to feed into it. As exemplified in this video, if you would have actually watched it, neither were happy. Read this a few times, read Sourabh's comment a few times, watch the video a few times. And maybe, just maybe, you might pick up on the point this time. I sure hope you do.
Nothing has changed. Perhaps, the media is providing better camouflage for the corporate entities that prescibe content and censor reality. The bottom line remains exactly the same...accumulation of wealth and power. Racism, prejudice, bigotry, oppression, and hatred are endemic. Maifest destiny remains the order of the day. Don't you ever forget that.
@@magickmeat8763 lol, no.
As a Native it’s stupid that Actual Indians from India have to clarify that they Indians from India 🇮🇳. Great comment tho!
After portraying an early 1870s infantryman for years at various state parks and retiring from the military it is great to see such an outstanding “Indian wars” film that goes into the folks lives and past.
What a film. Touches you. How mankind treated each other. The native people are so special. Christian bale is a phenomenal actor. You feel his pain
Yes, It's quite there and noticeable.
It's the same today as it was then. The same as it's always been. Mankind hasn't learned a thing in 3000 years. Not one thing.
@@ziprlineI totally agree
The best western I ever seen. I like it begining to end. Congratulations not only to Christian Bale, an actor that I admire, but all the team.
Beautiful movie!
A western in rupture with the style, extremely violent psychologically, the human relationships are strong, brutal and violent like the reality of that time. There is no hero, no villain, no good or evil in this western, only men seeking to escape the prison of the past in search of redemption. Cristian Bale is just exceptional as the whole cast, he touches our hearts.
Well said!
This movie sits with you for a long time, its one of the most heartbreaking films Iv seen
It's quite powerful, and certainly leaves an impact.
i like how u put every "you are good man joe" scene on the very end, it really represents what he really is , after everything he is been through , he is good man.
Glad you liked that detail! And thank you.
Yes he really is a good man. He conducted himself like a fair man during his mission.
Your a fine man joe blocker 🙌✌️
Arguably, Bale's finest performance. His understatement is sublime.
Christian Bale.
One of a KIND.
The man is a living legend.
Thank you Master Bale for your dedication.
The emotions this movie conveys is absolutely amazing. If you haven’t watched it yet definitely watch it!
High quality film!
One of the most underrated movies I’ve ever seen
Agreed!
Such an melancholic beauty, this movie. I always try and show this movie to people.
That's great!
Yeah currently begging everyone that they’re missing big time by not watching and feeling with this movie
When I saw this masterpiece at the movies at the end when he joined the train the entire audience stood and cheered. I've never seen anything like it in my life! Bale should have won the Oscar for a truly outstanding performance. To be so understated and yet be so profound is remarkable.
To know they’re language and still hate them shows a truly personal and intimate hate. Personally justified. Not inspired by others but confirmed by himself.
And yet, even in this case he wouldn’t find peace until he found forgiveness. I wouldn’t call myself a very religious type but it seems to be something the Bible got very right.
@fernie51296 well said, friend.
One of the best movies, ever, in my opinion. Not enough credit. The tale of suffering, human kindness, human cruelty, and ultimately redemption and some peace. Exceptional film.
Non è uno splendido film, è un capolavoro. L'ho visto almeno una decina di volte.
A masterpiece and the soundtrack my god …
Been so long that a movie touched my heart Christian bale is one of the greats 🙌
Thank you 🙏
Stunning and powerful movie! Glad you enjoyed watching the film.
This movie and Hell Or High Water both caught me off guard, both criminally underrated.
This is some real raw acting and story. No Hollywood bs here. Just real Human emotion and regret love and sorrow that’s all.
Truly well said!
When his best friend says “I don’t feel anything”, it breaks me every time.
Just finished watching it for the very 1st time... what a masterpiece 🤌🏾💯💕🥺
The movie is really damn amazing!

I'm thankful!
Very good movie - Christian Bale is awesome as always
By far one of my most favorite westerns till this day.
And as a Wartime Veteran, I felt it and understood it in a much deeper way.
“You were a good soldier”
“I still am”.
Semper Fi.
the best film I've ever seen next to the LOTR....coming from me an autistic who doesn't like change or many movies and is the hardest person to impress, sure I've seen great films but films I regard at a level of pure perfection I honestly only ever thought LOTR would be in that bracket...until I saw this film..
Yes, this movie pulled me in big time! It was such an experience!
That's pretty much the whole movie in this clip. An amazing work of art with two foreign actors going deep into the American western tragedy and finding a sense of humanity in the end.
Excellent movie. Rosamunde and Bale are a perfect duo. You can feel the pain.
"NO. Don't Shoot."
That performance was spot on. It... reminds me of a different time in my life.
Stunning film. Visual, acting and that gorgeous music...
I stumbled on the soundtrack and love it, having never saw this movie yet. This custom trailer sold me, looking forward to watching it and adding to library , looks AMAZING!!!!
I do hope you enjoy the movie, It's so good! and thank you for watching.
Great cut. Hostiles is one of my favorite movies! Glad to see it getting some love.
It's so good! and thank you!
Having been in war , I now fully understand the saying, ‘War makes for strange bedfellows.’ It is something about violence that brings out the raw humanity that is kept deep down away from the light.
This was six-plus minutes of concentrated sorrow.
Yes it was .-.
I deeply enjoyed this edit. Thank you for creating it.
You're most welcome, and thank you for watching!
Brilliantly made. Fantastic job.
Thank you so much!
"Ulzana's Raid" One of the best westerns I've seen.
Generally never been into westerns, i'm not American so they never really meant anything to me, but this film was something else. The essence it captures is so raw and moving, it reminds of the themes often explored by my favourite US poets; Longfellow, Emerson and Whitman. The real tragedy here is how under the radar and how underrated this film is.
I went to college for film and film study and I have been watching big blockbusters since I could remember, this movie hands down stays at the top of my list just because of everything you can pull from it. Emotional acting, not being able to know what's coming next in the plot, the CAST, the writing, the emotional pull, the score, the story itself. I watch thing probably once a month because it's one of if not the top movie that I can sit down and acting feel every emotion and at the end you feel a sense of warmness and satisfaction for how it ends,. Amazing movie
One of the best movies ever made.
This movie was so intense. I guess it hit too hard to many for it to be a hit. Obviously is a tale of redemption. It shows what years of death and killing can do to a person and the power of forgiveness. It will take a while for me to watch it again.
This movie is so damn good
It truly is! Such a masterpiece overall!
Wonderful Edit!❤
the brilliance nearly escapes definition --- stellar performances & directing ... particularly impressed with the scenery & the ageless Indian vs White Man !!!
One of the best
..YET . Brilliant in Every way.
Very much so!
A powerful moment where Thomas’ face is frozen in anguish in death with dried blood at 4:10 and Joe is just kneeling in front of him mentally in the same place only still alive.
CB’s best performance.
This edit is one of my favourite things on UA-cam. Brilliant work. For an astonishing movie. Well done.
I agree a masterpiece thankyou

Amen to that.
Gotta say...the edit set up on this movie is excellent.involved ..clean..moved the story....well done..plus the acting..great story u chose.
This is a masterpiece of an edit man. The pace and the moments it cuts to the music is perfect. Shot selection is perfect. It's amazing.
Thank you very much! I remember being in doubt when I began editing, but I am glad I went through with it!
Brilliantly written, directed and produced just so well, lighting, costumes, cinematography all done to perfection - and topped off with acting that renders a wonderful story superbly. Hostiles is a seriously good movie.
It seriously is!
You compelled me to watch this movie and I'm thankful for that. Good god, what a ride.
I think this edit convinced me Hostiles is Bales best performance. THis movie is so well done
Have you seen "The Machinist"? Also an excellent job.
Wes Studi is one of the most underrated actors of our time. Ever character he plays, he absolutely crushes it.....and Rory Cochrane as Metz was a phenomenal performance! That scene in the rain where he apologizes to Yellow Hawk.....Man that hit hard!!
He’s got a new movie out with this director. The Pale Blue Eye
This was a very under rated western. It was a fantastic film definitely one of the best westerns have seen. Bit confused about the dates though.
A fantastic movie!
I feel like this is one of those instances where I saw the whole movie in this ten minute trailer.
I wouldn't call This a trailer. It's more of a tribute.
Thank you for this montage
No problem!
This was epic, nice work
Such a great land, such great raw nature. Fading away. Not just the US, but everywhere.
An absolute masterpiece!
The was a good movie in that it portrayed both sides as absolutely savage towards one another and neither side was shown to be innocent.
Wow like all great films, the truly touching imprinting films I have ever watched, I landed on this movie just out of boredom looking for something to watch and I have never been more just taken. Brilliant all around, so much quality and pure talent put into this film, superb
Hey, man! Whoever created this video, I like you, we are kind of similar. It this video that I play in the evening to get that good vibe. I know its kinda depressing, but I thrive in it. I reflect upon things with it❤️
