It was simple and positive .not complicated at all.and the kids got it completely..That what worked about it.thats what was so successful..I don't know about your page. But this where kids who need help need to be
Love you Morgan Freeman. Apart from being a phenomenal, veteran actor, he made the discipline of Reading exciting, academically-stimulating and cool as ice. My parents first taught me how to read and Easy Reader encouraged us onward. Thank you Morgan Freeman.
The most remarkable thing about Electric Company and Sesame street is that they featured urban landscapes, when filming outside. It was not something I noticed as a child. But then again, as a reflection of who I was and the city dweller, that I was, I wasn't supposed to.
There is a lot that I notice about the shows now that I'm grown up. There is so much theory behind all the features of the show that I wouldn't have cared about as a kid.
I find The Electric Company fascinating because I really picked up literacy when I was 3 years old back in 1973 and I watched the show originally on TV. It's so cool how Easy Reader goes around reading text on signs and walls to demonstrate the idea of reading, and he acts so excited about doing it so that kids are motivated to learn how to read. I can remember how I would go around noticing text and reading it out loud because I was fascinated with reading when it was new to me. Also, I recall my mother showing me how to pencil-write once she found that I could read. The nice thing is that I had a good head start on literacy before I started school.
Thank you Morgan Freeman. You are the reason I love to read. I remember the song. It brings me back to a happier time. The world is in chaos these days.
Yeah, I remember "Easy Reader" from the Electric Company. He made reading cool, which is just want to want for a young boy in the inner city in the 1970s.
Love how he just pointed out that the soda is crap and don’t drink it😂😂😂😂 would love to go back to these days, after seeing the BS we’re going through right now in 2023??🤦🏽♀️🥴
I remember it had all these different color electric company pins..And I loved the reading rainbow classes I won't to at the Gloucester City library..I was in P.I. classes and stuff like this and the reading rainbow program made huge improvements in my learning, personality and confidence..They should bring back stuff like this for kids..especially kid with learning disabilities
Easy was like the Count on Sesame Street. Alike in the sense while the Count goes through items just to count them, Easy goes through items just to read the labels.
I was joking. I used to watch him on this show as a little kid. And saw him in Street Smart with Christopher Reeve and recognized him as the guy from Electric Company.
Late to the game but thanks for this Easy Guy. You're probably long gone but I've been on the Electric Company deep dive and this was something special.
Of course he doesn't drink the stuff. Didn't she hear him just read the ingredients in it? We could all do with a little less Sodium benzoate in our lives! ;-)
i remember another electric company segment with morgan freeman in it. in that segment, he tasted 2 kinds of cola. one was in a brown cup with a light yellow lower case q on it and the other was in a brown cup with a light yellow lower case m on it. either hattie Winston or lee chamberlain is also in that segment. the q cola tasted nasty, but morgan swallowed it and made a yucky face. the m cola tasted even nastier and he spat it out and said something about both colas being from the land of yuck. I first saw that segment in 1978 or 1979. I hope someone posts it on youtube
Thank you Rockwell Scratch for posting this. Morgan Freeman inspired many kids (of many colors), not just black kids in the 1970's, me included and I'm Hispanic and White. He is the reason I love reading to this day! I'm 51 now. I would rather read than watch television. Television, though very entertaining, is a distraction from consciousness. Easy reader is also the reason I like cannabis. Tell me he didn't like to smoke weed! LOL
PICTURED 3:21 Between 1932 and 1974 Lewis H. Michaux owned the African National Memorial Bookstore in Harlem, New York City, one of the most prominent African-American bookstores in the country.
I remember that. He tried the brand marked M, and said it was terrible, then he tasted the brand marked Q, spat it out, looked at Judy Graubart, said Lady, they're both the pits, then picked the wrong brand and not Zippy Cola. It was the M or Q sketch. That was too funny. Can you find the sketch where Morgan Freeman and Lee Chamberlain are watching a movie, and he keeps saying Stop!because Judy keeps making him laugh by tickling him?
When the electric company first started they had easy reader looking like a hippie or something like that this clip I believe is the debut of this one far better i believe
This is the first episode of the second season. You may be right, this is the debut of the outfit we all know and love. He had another similar outfit, which was blue with a feathered hat, but he never wore it on the show for some reason. (That outfit is notably known on the Spidey Super Stories comics)
RIP LEE CHAMBERLIN Found time to act in two great movies too during the electric company run 1974 and 1975 The Bill Cosby Sidney Poitier team-ups uptown Saturday night let's do it again she was in them too.

We were so lucky, Electric Company, Sesame Street, Mr Roger's, Cap'n Kangaroo, Zoom. 70's & 80's goodness.
@@Mandalorian2814 Channel 9 WWOR NYC in the 1970's for me

Which makes it feel more relatable I guess. Easy reader looks like he was taking a walk in nitty gritty 1970s new york.
So endlessly cool. Happy 50th anniversay to a show that raised me right.
PBS Channel 10 NYC was awesome in the 1970's with ZOOM !
A pay phone! Love it! It cost $.10 back then. Always loved Morgan Freeman and Rita Moreno on "The Electric Company" on PBS!
It was quite a treat when the teacher would roll out the TV, turn it on and hear “HEEEYYY YOU GUUYYYS!!!”

@@herbyverstink No, it’s pretty bad now in terms of racial division. We’ve regressed to the 1960s.

Yeah, I remember "Easy Reader" from the Electric Company. He made reading cool, which is just want to want for a young boy in the inner city in the 1970s.
I agree!
When Morgan Freeman portrayed Joe Clark. He looked like Easy in the opening scenes.
The easy reader song. Is an earworm. Could watch this clip over and over again.
I dug the Electric Company as a kid...but only NOW do I realize it was WAY GROOVY!!
Here he has no idea how great his career would turn out to be. 🎥🎬

0:09 🤣🤣🤣🤣 When he sees a word he can read. He gets super lit. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I love the flute playing in this...
Flutes are the best instrument. Right next to saxophones
Check out the soul-food specialty in back:
"Special fish platter: Porgy & Bass".
Inspiring Bob's Burgers writers...
I loved the fact that they had Easy visit a Black Power bookstore. Really daring on a show for "kids".
It's the 70s, the height of the Civil Rights and the Black Power movements.
@@ShadowMoon878 that must be true.
They also would pair people together no matter their race as couples in the show. It was fantastic.

The ultimate in GEN X television
A first class genuine readin freak!

When Morgan Freeman was young, he looked like Jimi Hendrix
This person is enjoying every second of life 😄
I know I should be running around with wonder
ment in my mind ,,,
Truly a role model
Such wonderful memories...an educational AND entertaining show!😊
Because of easy reader, I was reading before I started grade one
So much art & love went into these…I realize now how much I was really learning watching this show as a kid…❤
I owe Mr. Freeman a debt.
*This is so 70's I was 5-6 watching this............................ It's 50 YEARS LATER where did the time go ???*
Oh my goodness, thanks for posting this. I still love the Easy Reader theme song and this brightened my day...SMILE!!!
2:21 “Aren’t you gonna drink this Dr Delight?”
“NAH! I just wanna read it!”
Can’t blame the guy. After what he read on the label what’s in it.
My first thought as well lol
The soda nowadays is even worse. Burning chemicals down your throat.
Way out and funky! Naw Momma I don't drink this stuff I just come in and read it.
I wonder what ever became of that actor.
he was a one hit wonder
Morgan Freeman? He is very well-known as an announcer, and he was in many movies, such as Bruce Almighty and Lean on Me.
I was joking. I used to watch him on this show as a little kid. And saw him in Street Smart with Christopher Reeve and recognized him as the guy from Electric Company.
@@kencoakley3959 I find it fascinating to find the various actors in different contexts. I've been looking up commercials that had Judy Graubart.

I was a little girl when this was on, but I love this music !!!!

Loved this show as a child before I started 1st grade
I don’t drink the stuff, I just dig readin it!
SUPER THROWBACK!!!
This reminds me of my childhood, a lot of great memories.
Easy Reader showing kids how reading can be fun. Easy Reader: "I don't drink Dr. Delight, I just read it!"

Jimi Hendrix enjoying that career change.
Lady played Madam Zenobia in the movie Uptown Saturday Night
Lee Chamberlin also was a regular on All My Children at one time.
Every time Easy reads anything his reaction is like that of a junkie taking a hit of something. When in that bookstore, I thought he would OD.
I thought he broke out a Jackson 5 move every time he read something. Love it so much! ❤️🤟🏻
Lmao. He even walked through needle park.
Some people just got it. And this guy has it in buckets.
There's something very Hawk ( Spencer for hire) about Easy Reader...
Wow

@0:38 Bridget Loves Bernie… Easy Reader says, “Forget that! Dude beats on the chick!”
Plus, she's lesbian - probably was never gonna work out regardless.
That readin' stuff is outta sight !!!
Easy Reader kicked so much ass !!
This is an Oscar worthy performance better than The Shawshank Redemption

"Word is, you're a man who can read things."
