wow, Just looked at the first 10 comments and they are all negative. I bought and have it here and it's very, very nice in person. The bezel action (not mentioned) is unreal and reminds me of my Tudor BB58 (both in terms of grip and action / feel). The watch has an iconic look (subjective) but, what is not subjective is that this is actually an iconic watch made for the service back in the early 90's. In today's landscape of watches, they all start to look and feel the same after a bit. This is refreshingly different and truly something unique that other people are just not going to have. The price is what it is, to say it's too expensive "for what it is" is just silly. Go find me another watch that looks like this, tritium, great company with long history, amazing bezel action, only 11mm thick, and a movement that is almost atomic accurate. Not to mention fans of this have wanted this since the late 90's, LOL. There is no other options for a navigator watch like this. The closest thing would be a CNC, Bernus, etc and they are just not the same. Anyway, I love mine and fans of this style of watch will love it too 🙂

Travis, I bought a sage green navigator and returned it as disappointed. But this model addresses ALL of the thoughts I had and I have zero issues paying for more to get it. I really struggled with the return too as I love the history, toughness and all Marathons have best looking face in watchdom - to me :-) . Their entire line appeals tremendously to me. I didn't really want a SAR model as they are a big watch, as a daily wear. The navigator is perfect but the steel is a permanent watch now, and not a plastic representation. Love it and I'm 100% in.

@@dgordon130 Hi Gordon! Thanks for that comment. I agree with you on all accounts. Funny, when my plastic navigator arrived (about a year ago now), I was always dissatisfied with the bezel. I felt like it should have been metal, even if on a plastic case. In humid conditions, it would be loose to turn. Inside, with colder ac, it would stiffen up enough to be more tight. When wet it's useless. So, I for sure was never totally happy, but like you just love the whole look and idea. So, this steel one is just a dream. 😁. I also agree about the GSAR, I love the look but hate how tall, thick and heavy it is by comparison.

This definitely has that vintage black and silver vintage cameras look which I'm a big fan of. This one is on my short list of watches to own. It's absolutely beautiful. And having been in the Royal Canadian Air Force when I was young is another good reason for me to want this beauty. 😋

I have had this watch for almost 2 months now, and it does exactly what I need it to. I am an aviator in the Air Force and this watch is as advertised; Great for long ocean crossings and austere environment. The lume is completely legible through all hours of the night, which is necessary when operating in darkness for several hours. The twelve hour bezel is necessary for tracking a second time zone (UTC). The watch fits so well that I forget I am wearing it. Get the cheaper watch strap (Ballistic Nylon Strap). Thank me later.

I worked as an avs tech for the Royal Canadian Air Force in the late '80s/early '90s and this watch reminds me so much of the dials used on the Kiowa helicopters we used to service. These Marathon watches are incredibly impressive in the steel.
As an aside, I visited Kelly AFB in 1985 and saw the early Internet and a crazy conference room. The airman showing us the conference room asked, “What do y’all know about Cheyenne Mountain?”
I said, “Norad!” He had a friend there, so we were allowed to call “the mountain.” It was pretty amazing.

A lot of comments here about the price. There’s several websites where you can get this for $730 instead of buying from Marathon. Having been a long time fan of the Marathon GSAR, I can say that for the price you’re gonna get a super reliable and durable watch. You also get a thermo-compensated quartz movements, tritium gas tubes that glow all night, 100m water resistance, sapphire crystal, and GMT bezel. Sure there’s cheaper options out there, but not that offer these same features. I just ordered mine and can’t wait to add it to the collection. Definitely wish they offered the “US Government” marking on the dial, but still really excited about this watch

Pop off back, press in crown tube, flat saffire crystal. This watch costs about $90 to make, yet they chatge $830. Total rip off. Consumers need to start researching and demaning how quality watches are made, cause this isn't one. I'd also of preferred no battery hatch, just a screw back case - lasts longer and is safer.

People complaining about the price of $864 cdn on Marathon's website for a watch that is + or - 10 seconds a year with screw down crown, sapphire crystal, GMT bezel, case hardening to 900 vickers and only 11mm thick with Tritium gas tubes is surprising to say the least. The next closest watch in price with the same accuracy level would be the Longines VHP which is $1600 cdn on their website. The Citizen Chronomaster and Grand Seiko quartz that are obviously more premium start at $2500 - $3000 cdn, The Breitling Endurance Pro is a Chronograph but has the same accuracy and starts at $4250 cdn. If you are looking at accuracy you simply cannot compare this to a normal quartz watch with its + or - 15 seconds per month. Plus this watch has case hardening that while not quite up to Sinn's Tegimenting standards still provides a lot more scratch resistance than standard stainless steel. IMHO this is an amazing daily driver at a very reasonable price that I will definitely be purchasing in the very near future.

Bought one last month directly from Marathon EU and the bezel is 90 clicks, not 120. That's a bit strange as it hits only the even minute gradings (3 clicks 2min). Also, the diameter of the bezel is only 38mm, whereas the case is 41mm (it is asymmetric on the right side towards the crown where it has the additional 3mm). This makes the dial feel very small in relative size to it's stated "41mm size" and more in line with the MSAR diver line. This should have been mentioned in the review as it's key information in my opinion. The watch is still great overall.

Its a beautiful watch, I've been looking for a nice pilot watch and this is a more affordable option than the other watch I've been eyeing (IWC Mark XV). My only gripe is the band, I would probably swap it out with a medium-thickness black leather band. If I still want this watch next year, I'll pick one up.
EDIT (7 months later) finally got it, jumped on a Christmas sale. I love it. Very attractive. Haven't swapped out the band yet, but I can already tell a leather band, while it will somewhat take away from the true "aviator" look, does elevate the aesthetic, instantly upgrades it to a dressy watch

Handwritten note and everything. No charge either. Also, I have a Sinn 556i and a Damasko DS-30. Both are much more than this and not at all the same look & feel and makes no sense to consider them if this is a watch that speaks to you. Proper alternatives would be CWC watch, or perhaps Benrus and in both cases are still not the same and just as much if not more. I looked (and wanted) the Benrus Type I reissue. But, at $1700 was put off. When this was released, it was an easy choice for me, I have it here now and its so much nicer in person vs. the photos and video of it. This will never be an auto because the originals were never auto. At best they may release a no date version, but that would be about it. I gotta say, with a large collection of autos, its so nice to have a Quartz! Not to mention one that is almost atomic accurate! Really cool stuff.

lol that was a passionless 'rapido' video, we can tell you don't love it. IMO given that the GPM and GPQ steel versions have screw down case backs, this really ought to have had one too, a snap on case back is nasty, but I guess as it has a battery hatch, then it's semi-reasonable.
