My recently deceased step-dad bought me one of these a few years ago for Christmas because we both watched a video of The Urban Gentry review it. I wear it to work everyday on film sets because the job can be pretty hard on any watch. It has some significant gouges now but the plastic case hides them pretty well. The acrylic crystal on the other hand doesn't hide marks very well and actually looks quite hazy because of all the scratches. The tritium is great however on days where we're in a dark studio for 12-14 hours with no sun exposure since the markers are perpetually glowing. I certainly am not going to throw mine away when it's worn out but I might buy the sapphire version when the tritium becomes too dark. I love this watch and it always reminds me of the interest in watch collecting my step-dad and I shared.

This watch is legit and I flew with it. 12-hr bezel is a great conversion scale for UTC. Lume is super, legible when your eyes are not even dark adapted excuse you’re wearing NVGs. Lightweight, rugged, legible. Easy to swap a battery on deployment. Only issue I had was the bezel started to get real loose and
easy to turn accidentally, but I popped it off and was able to push on the tab underneath and fix it. For the price, you can’t beat this as a true flying watch. ❤

I used a bracelet sizing tool and pliers to push/pull out the strap pins and replaced them with single shoulder 20mm spring bars. You want to use thick bars that won't pass through the holes, which will be larger than your usual drilled lug holes. I can now strap up my Navigator. Enjoy!

One of my most-worn watches since I picked one up in June '21. It's great to have an analog watch I can wear running/to the gym, in the pool or shower (I know, I know, 60m WR but I've never had an ounce of trouble) without worrying a bit about how it's going to handle the wear and tear. I even like how it looks with dressy-casual clothes (look up Harrison Ford with his Breitling UDT to see what I mean). If you're not already hopelessly addicted to buying and selling and trading watches for the novelty factor like me, this could be your only watch or be 1/2 or 1/3 of a very small collection.

I recently experienced a similar lug width/strap size conundrum (maybe it was a cataclysm). Earlier this week, I bought a Merci LMM - 01 which has a 19mm lug span. Mildly annoying since I have many 18mm and 20mm straps, but not a big deal. I even bought an extra strap from Merci since I am not a fan of the black strap that it ships with.
Turns out the straps that they sell/ship are 20mm. They're selling a watch with a 19mm lug width, but shipping them with 20mm straps. It's like they're acknowledging that 19mm is an odd choice by using 20mm straps, but then why manufacture a watch with a 19mm lug width to begin with? Wouldn't 18mm or 20mm make more sense....? Anyway, cool Marathon. I love the tritium and asymmetrical case.

An actual watch a real James Bond type might wear.
Nice that you also wear it without arousing negative attention or envy too.

It'd be so interesting if you compared an IWC Mark XVIII to a Borealis Icarus. Grail level for most, versus a more accessible alternative. Just a thought.

I used to work for the military and always saw service members in Casios and Marathons. It romanticized the idea of buying a watch like this, but I know this watch isn't for me. Maybe in another life...

I saw this on your wrist during the Zenith review and got a bit excited. I bought one a few months ago and have worn it every day since - mostly because the tritium makes it an excellent night watch.

I bought one and then returned it. The bezel was almost an afterthought: uneven feel turning it and easily pops off with just a little upward pressure on the side. Since it’s plastic, over time the nubs under the bezel that give it its notchiness would likely wear out, leaving you with a free spinning useless bezel. At its price point, not worth it.

  • @theoverlord1925

These are decently priced but their other stuff is overpriced and most of their dials too crowded which makes it hard to read the time easily. It kind of defeats the purpose on their dive watches. Shame because I like the brand history and overall design of the GSAR ‘s , TSAR’ s. But waaaay too much money for what you get , especially the quartz models.

Seems like mil-spec watches was a bigger deal in the 1950's when watch quality was all over the place. But, it's weird, but I've never seen a service member wearing a Marathon. Lots of casio/suunto, (90%) and once a Sinn U1. A few officers with rolexes. I'll have to ask my aviation team today if they have ever seen one.
