- Hey ya'll! In this video I will go over my expectations initially of sonography versus what Sonography is really like! Don't get me wrong I love being a sonographer and I wouldn't change it for the world but it is a lot different than I expected! I hope you all enjoy!!
xoxo,
Jamie Lyn
I am seriously planning on going into this profession and I have watch a lot of your videos about the profession and I can’t tell you how helpful your videos are. So much insight in the profession. Thank you.
One thing I wish Sonography school teaches is ergonomics and the importance of strengthening your arms and body and getting massages regularly. 80% of Soographers get on the job injury. I’ve been scanning for 9 years and 90% of sonographers I’ve worked with have pain in their neck, shoulders, head, back, and arms. Many had surgery in the shoulders or wrist, trigger point injections in the muscles or steroid injections in their joints. I love love love my job and the pay is great but the irreversible chronic pain I go through everyday is almost not worth it. That’s why so many sonographers go part time or per diem or quit altogether. Just be careful, take care of your body, do your stretches and exercises. Trust me. If you don’t, you will get injured.
Mine did thank goodness but you are absolutely right, as crazy as it sounds ultrasound can really wear on your body.
I’m thinking about going to school for sonography but this is the only con I’m really scared about.. are you saying that doing strength training & getting massages regularly will prevent pain???
I already have the back, neck, and shoulder pain since I was a child for what reason? I don’t know lol. I just realized this is the profession I want to go into, so best know I’m gonna work on strengthening my muscles and stretchin!
I want to thank you, deeply, for this video. I've watched many videos about sonography over the years. I took all of my pre- and co-requisites for my school's sonography program. Then I stumbled upon this video, and it's made me realize, I can NOT handle sonography.
I chose sonography because I wanted a job in the medical field that could avoid blood, wounds, etc.
not one of the videos I have seen before today were this honest about what you deal with and see as a sonographer.
I absolutely can't handle things like this… i only wish I had seen this video a few years ago, before I started school and wasted so much time taking classes I no longer need.
Love your videos! Can you make a video where you talk about juggling being a mother and working as a Sonographer? I am 7 months into my DMS program and still struggle to balance my kids and school. Thank you!
Great video! So glad I found your channel. Could you do a video on top tips for upcoming sonography students? I would love to know what to study up on before I start my program to put my best foot forward
I was an elementary teacher, loved it but got tired of being overworked/underpaid. I decided to change careers and I’m applying to 1 DMS program and 1 CVT soon. Hope this is the right career choice for me 🙏🏽
Did you already take your prerequisites?
That’s awesome!! With the patience it takes to be a elementary teacher you will do great as a Sonographer!💕
Mrs J Renae Yes I did!
Jamie Lyn Thank you! 😘
omg! I'm a middle school teacher ready to make a change too. how is it going so far?
I really appreciate this video! I like to hear the not always pretty truth. Because that’s what’s real, and I’d love to have a little insight of what to expect once I get there. Thank you! 😊
Thank you for this video! It's really helpful as always! Still looking forward to my b journey of becoming a Sonographer! 🙂
You are very welcome!! Thank you and best of luck to you!!
Your makeup colors today are on point
Yes!! Thank you! I love makeup but I’m no artist lol
I love your videos! I’m going into my second semester and I can’t wait to be done with the schooling 😁
Jamie your channel and content is great! I am a prospective student for the DMS program looking to start next year. And cannot wait to use the information you give us on your channel.Great work 🙂🙂
Thank you and when do you find out if you get into the program? I’m rooting for you!!
Thank you so much for sharing your experience ❤
Such a heartbreaking story about the woman who miscarried. I think the fact that I do well under pressure and staying calm in chaos is a good thing for this career. Today I was discussing the field with a friend of mine who is pregnant and she said one of her ultrasounds was great and the girl doing it was really sweet and friendly but another one she had the girl was kind of cold and barely said a word. One thing I DO worry about is that I'm the kind of person who isn't good at multitasking. So if I get a chatty patient I'm gonna have a hard time focusing on scanning and also talking. Even though I'm totally a people person!
Thank you Jamie Lyn, this was helpful. And you are a soldier. Thank you for the truth.
I’m currently in a DMS program. We are all struggling with cross sectional anatomy. Any tips?
Thank you for all your advice! I'm currently enrolled the diagnostic Sonography program. I'm looking forward to a wonderful learning experience
You are so welcome! Thank you for watching!!! 💕
Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge! I’ve been interested in this field for a while so this helps me determine if it’d be a good fit
I'm in Canada and pursuing a career in Sonography. I'm so glad I found your channel. Thanks for sharing your experiences and providing quality insight!
Thank you so much! 💕
Lenni Zonta hey!I am in Canada too. Wondering what school you are going for sonography?
@@nancyzhang7069 hey, I'm currently trying to get into the DMS program at BCIT.
Do a video about diff patients you had!! The stories about the patient with the miscarriage and the one with lice were very informative and gave a real expectation of the career.
You’re videos are so helpful! Keep up the great work!
can you talk about the department drama in this field? It's ridiculous how much our professors push on us that there are some mean, cruel people in this field and "because it's mainly women" that things get petty and catty far too often. Is this even true?
I sure will and I will be posting a video very soon in this thank you for your idea!!💕
Thanks love! I love how relatable you are. Question ? Did you have to take the Teas Exam in order to get accepted into your program? If so, do you have any tips? Also...how long was the longest scan you’ve ever done?
Hello Jamie I’ve watched a few of your videos because yesterday it hit me that I wanted to pursue a career in Sonographer and watching and listening to you has helped me push towards it even more, was the schooling hard for you? I wasn’t very good in school in the past but I also didn’t try at all. Any information you can pass along would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Thank you for taking time to talk about your career! ☺️
Also, what degree did you have when you got your first paycheck? Associates, Bachelors, Masters?
Aww that’s awesome and thank you very much! Yes schooling was hard but in the sense that it was a huge work load and a ton of studying but it can be done and my first check was an associates of science 💕
Jamie Lyn thank you so much, I’m very excited and you’re just very inspirational 😊
I am going to be applying for the DMS limited access program and I want to know what some other peoples applications looked like, If selection was based off of a point system, how many of those points did you have & what did pre reqs did you take ?
thank you soooooooo much!
Hi! I love you’re videos! 🌻 Would there be less blood or smells in a private office setting ? Idk if I could handle blood clots on the floor 😅
How do you prevent burn out in this field? I don’t have kids, won’t anytime soon (next 7 years probably), but I can get burnt out easily.
I have a question: what kind of sonographer are you? (also thank you so so much on all the information you provide!!)
As a male is it easy to become a cardiac sonographer or is it still dominated by females?
There are plenty of male sonographers and I have worked and work with some of the best!! There is no discrimination in gender as far as I see! Best of luck to you!
Thank you for this video!
Is it a good idea to take anatomy & physiology 2 with lab + physics + PCA program next semester? Or should I just do PCA + physics (bc it’s mandatory) without anatomy 2 on my application for DMS for next fall? Is it worth the risk to not take or to take ?
I’m wanting to join a Sonography program however I don’t have any accredited schools by CAAHEP near me. I’m still on the fence on Sonography Nd rad tech. We have a local accredited rad tech program but not Sonography, idk what to do. Is there a reason you left radiology for Sonography? I have a bachelors degree for liberal arts but it’s of course a different field of study. I’m lost
I love your videos! Thank you for the advice always. I am applying for my program in May, one of my professors asked me if I knew where I wanted to work whether a hospital or a clinic and after watching your videos I took your advice and I think a hospital to get as much as training! Also I dont know any sonographer within my close circle and I want to ask for advice please! I am struggling woth Physics really bad. How much of Physics we will see during our program or while at work?? PLEASE HELP
I'm taking Physics right now as well! It is tough!
Not going to lie physics is hard but once it clicks you will be ok!! Physics is something that will always be in your career but it starts to be understood more once you are practicing in the field!! If you have the green Edelman physics book read it backwards (back chapter to front chapter) guaranteed to pass spi
What do you mean after 3 years is up? You have to retake the boards again?
alondra michaela no. It's continued education credits that you need to take. You can gather them by. Attending learning conferences or getting registered in another modality like general, vascular ob etc. but they drop off after 3 years so you constantly have to be gathering them to keep your license
I was wanting to do sonography but after watching a few videos I’m not sure if it’s for me anymore lolll
Lol why is that?
Thank you for your video do you have any cardiac stories or experience
Are you from the south?I know the south pays way less than most places for everything and you get paid well.
hello! i love your videos so much and it has helped me so much choose this career pathway. i’m currently looking at different programs for sonography, i was wondering if you had any tips for getting accepted and finding programs?
Hi!! Thank you so much for watching my videos!! 💕 if you don’t have any medical experience I highly recommend volunteering or working at a medical, dental office or hospital. Keep a high gpa and treat your interview as a job interview and you will do great!
Jamie Lyn hi! thank you so much!!! i was wondering if you had any tips on how to find volunteering or job opportunities? i’m very lost on the whole process and don’t really have the support or help. so your videos and everything truly do help a lot!
Thank you for this video! It was very entertaining and great advice !!! I am applying to my program in January next year. So this is my last prerequisites semester. I’m taking physics also. Plus biology, 2 hard classes at the same time not the best idea. Any tips for how much to study in biology. My first exam is in 7 days and I know I haven’t studied enough for it. Thankfully it’s the beginning of the semester so I have time to turn around my study habits. I will pass both of these classes I will pass lol 😂 have to stay positive.
@kessliempire for bio study advice, please check out the videos of Bozeman Science on UA-cam and for Physics check out The Organic Chemistry Tutor( he also has videos on Chemistry and calculus). Hope you'll find these helpful. Best of luck dear...
can you have tattoos as a sonographer ?
Yes you can I know plenty of people with tattoos who are sonographers 😊
Are part time positions a thing? Or do you HAVE to work 40+ hours?
The Roof Family part time is still a thing but you may still be required to take call and work night shifts with that
You have beautiful eyes!
I’ve experienced much of what you describe. Maybe it’s because I’m older but seems like young sonographers are awfully delicate.
What websites did you use to study your registry’s?
I use ultrasound registry review! I love how it’s laid out!
Please upload again!!!
Working on one now! Yay!!! Thank you !!
@@JamieLyn Yay! I love your videos! ♡
You scared me so much
Why? Lol
@@JamieLyn because of the corns or HIPPA.
Have you ever puked because of the "smells"?
Also 15:52 - 15:58, the sound of the "sad laugh" killed me 😂😂
What's a CE?
Continuing education, as a healthcare professional we have to stay up to date on the changed in our field so we have to get credits to maintain our license
You know, there are many jobs where people must stand eight hours plus a day on concrete floors not even moving just standing in one spot, why do ultrasound sonographers always complain about standing, if that’s the toughest part of your job, you’re stealing money…
what school did you go to?
I went to Virginia College for DMS
I went to Virginia College for DMS
Thats great, I think the one that was closest to me in Austin TX closed down
What state are you in
Hi!!! I am in Texas! ☺️ what about yourself?
Jamie Lyn I am in NJ
Nice my husband is from there!
