Thank you! My truck failed inspection because the parking brake released very slowly and brakes were weak. I replaced left & right rear parking brake cables, parking brake shoes, and equalizer, but it was still bad. After replacing the parking brake lever (ratchet) it now releases quickly like new, and is working great. Your video made the replacement much easier.

I have to pull the release handle a couple times for the pedal to come all the way back and the light to turn off. Do I need to replace the whole mechanism or is there a part I can grease/lube or tighten the cable?
I've got to do that also. What you didn't show was how to remove the the plastic kick panel over the lever. I have to fix a leak there also. I don't want to break it nor do I know how it's snapped in. Thanks. Any advice would be welcome. Mines a 99 extended cab.
My neighbors e brake release lever won’t release the brake. I’m assuming the cable in the mechanism is broken. How do I replace this part if I can’t release the brake pedal?
my release lever wasn't working. I just removed it, put it on the bench and drenched the spring with WD-40. Now it works and I didn't have to replace it.
