Been playing Imagine for years with the TTRPG's original creator as our DM. Great system.
From his writing I bet he is one awesome Game Master!!
@@RandomEncounterShow He definitely is. His games are some of the most enriching role-playing experiences in a tabletop setting that I have had.
@@RandomEncounterShowI've known the author for 45 years, and he was the first DM i ever played under! He's a fantastic game master, and he created a fantastic game!!!
@@joseramirezdecoronado6033 Thanks, I have loved seeing the responses from those who have been in the Imagine family!
@@joseramirezdecoronado6033 Miss you man.
I was honored to work on this game years ago as the first full time employee. I put so many hours into making sure the rulebook was clear enough to communicate all the great rules in the game, and I am so glad to see it appreciated. Michael created a great system and I am so appreciative that he gave me my first shot at being a professional game artist and designer and allowing me to contribute. Looking back it’s still by far my favorite RPG system. I’ll never forget some of the epic moments that came from running it!
You did an amazing job and I'll never be able to thank you enough, but thank you.
Lots of great stories about Imagine are being commented! I can see the love for the game not just in the books themselves but from those who had a part in it.
The Gene Simmons comment around 42 minutes in had me rolling. I think it is your sense of humor that is a highlight of the channel. Seems like a great system.
@@RHampton I later found out this was "Beth" who got tired of calling!
Thank you. We who have spent years on this appreciate it.
It really shows, the entire system comes off as a labor of love and dedication to the hobby. It is a prime example of what I try to promote for the hobby!
Then why don't you promote it on your channel?🤔
@@buddhawasright I don't feel that it is entirely appropriate. It just feels like hubris to do so.
Also I don't really have a group of folks who'd want to be on camera promoting/playing, etc. That takes a special kind of energy.
@@ImaginerImaginesok good point
Imagine is definitely awesomeness! I'm one of the listed Playtesters & we had tons of fun.
Nice! Glad to see the Imagine crowd showing up!
This video convinced me to throw a solo scenario together. I can't start on it until late summer. But I can see the advantages of being able to play solo and learn that way.
If you want help just let me know!
@@RandomEncounterShow Just tell me what kind of things you are looking for. Imagine combat can be kind of harsh so I'd be thinking there would be a need for a companion GMC (NPC). So if you are playing a mage type then a warrior companion, etc. In the material provide sheets and guidance for those companions. Basically make a roster that the players can choose from if they want to just pick a character and go and then suggestions who to take for a companion from that roster based on their pick or the character they made.
Next I'd set it up with a little intro, small border town. Trouble brewing and the option of what to go deal with 1) Small dungeons, 2) Bandit hideout, 3) Geebra (small goblins) nearby forest camp, that kind of thing so it isn't a railroad.
For the encounters there would be a setup where you might know it is an encounter but you don't know whether it is finding some old campsite or about to get jumped/discover evil humanoids, etc. So you'd make decisions and then it would have you jump to a page to resolve them so it wouldn't be obvious what's about it to happen with sections in the back clearly labeled don't read until told to do so.
In the combat encounters there would be character/extra/creature listings and specific tactics provided about how they would attack. What their target priorities would be, etc.
This was the very first TTRPG I ever played as a kid. My nextdoor neighbor and best friend introduced our group of friends to playing it. It literally shaped my perspective and expectations of what tabletop rpgs are. So many great memories.
(Of course, we were all between 12 and 14 years old, and I think I remember a LOT of homebrew, lol, but still counts!)
One heck of an RPG for an introduction! I love the stories coming in this video has stirred!
Great video, great break down. Imagine RPG is DEEP and yet cohesive, and you did a great job giving and overview.
Bah didn't scratch the surface but got what I could in the video!
Both glad and slightly worried that Imagine has been discovered by others… been a fan since 2000. 😉
No worries needed, we are definitely a hobby centric community!
Thanks for the video. I have been playing it since it’s beginning
Most welcome, you all have been keeping the secret! 🤣
It’s a fascinating find Mr.Stalker! I expect it’d be excellent for solo play where waiting your turn isn’t so important (I doubt this is a speedy game to play) but detailed resolution mechanics can be so helpful and improve immersion. Some of the art is beautiful. I see so many similarities to other games, some of which came years later…Palladium, Warhammer, Aces & Eights, Hackmaster, Rolemaster, Runequest, AD&D etc. For anybody in the UK, as I type the Players Book is on e bay for less than a fiver. Cool video, I like how this is a brief overview at one and a half hours lol 😂
I gave a brief overview, within the first 15 minutes! I can't let it go at that though 💪
Fantastic. Never even knew about this system. Sounds like it has a little bit of Hack Master in it as well. Huh. Love to see more on the system. Thanks for posting.
~Fritz
Hackmaster is a spoof of Rolemaster so yeah a little bit!
Played this in high school with the creator, still the best system I have encountered.
That's pretty cool!
@@RandomEncounterShow It was, Mike was a fantastic GM and his story was amazing.
@@fosterhighschool88 Yeah, I have been chatting with him, definitely sounds like a great guy to know! Myself being from GA I wish I would have seen the game in the early 2000's!
@@RandomEncounterShow I was actually in the group int he 80's when it was all still in a binder and even then the game blew D&D away in my opinion.
@@fosterhighschool88 holy smokes, now that is stories I would love to hear!!!
How classic and great! Looks very fun.
Yeah it definitely hits the right notes for me! Much like Ward does as a TCG!
Just started watching your videos love the enthusiasm
Glad you found us! Come on in, we have all sorts of strange and terrifying videos 👾
I really enjoyed your video- thanks for bringing Imagine RPG some well deserved attention. You weren't kidding about the artwork in the books!
I'd also like to add that pdfs are available for all the books at a very reasonable price on the website.
Thanks!
Great video! Too bad I can't buy these books in Europe. But now at least I know these books exist. 🙂
A buddy of mine in the UK found some via ebay or local seller!
Oh yes on their discord or somewhere I saw they had put some of it on lulu for the international buyers but all I can find is the mysteries of the planes book. You might just contact them directly!
@@RandomEncounterShowOK thanks. I will try to contact them to see what are the possibilities to send them to the EU.
There are six books on your table, whereas i own only the Player guide and the DM Guide...wondering what the others are
@@Garghamellal Hopefully you caught them later in the video! You can see them on the Imagine website (check description), and more are on the way!
If you enjoy Imagine rpg, you would like Powers & Perils by Avalon hill.
@Garghamellal I have had powers and perils for years, never could find the will to actually get it to the table.
@@RandomEncounterShow mesmerizedbysirens.blogspot.com/2012/04/behold-group-of-powers-perils-fantasy.html
Looks and sounds interesting, any chance in getting a solo play through?
Yep, I am working in the background for solo campaigns that will come to the show. Definitely will be taking Imagine through the paces at some point!
Cool!
Definitely! 😎
I have had the first two main books for more than 10 years. The first read didn't impressed me. Now, I have te re-read it.
You're 100% about not being able to give an RPG review. You have to commit to an RPG to know what it's like to play it. Reading the books and playing a one shot is not enough. I like GURPS and people say things about it that tell me they have never played it. It doesn't p[lay like it reads once you're comfortable with. Faster combat does not always mean more fun. I don't like classes but I like a few things about this RPG. Thanks form throwing something different at us.
If you think GURPs is bad watch 90% of the content on Rolemaster! 🤣
@@RandomEncounterShow I'm, going to watch that video on Cephius that I think I missed.
