That amount of food would feed my 4 year old Cresty for a week! I change the food every other day and I use a half tea spoon of Pangea mix and he doesn't always finish it every time. He's a good weight and looks good. If I made that amount I would throwing most of the food out. The Pangea Insect complete mix is his favorite so far of all their range.
I was thinking this.. in horror.. my guy is in perfect health as far as Im aware, he's around 6yrs. Lost his tail as a baby, weights 59 grams. But he usually eats a 2lt bottle cap off of coke/pepsi every 3-4 days I'd say. I leave food in there for 3 days and it isn't gone so I remove, bin. Leave a day without food then new bottle cap sized tub of food and repeat (I re use the plastic gecko-jelly pots). He's never ever finished any pot or come close, really. Although it must be said I tend to mix the food a lot thicker than in this video, more like smooth custard. Perhaps he gains more nutrition as it isn't diluted with water.
I use a screw on soda cap for small geckoes. I try and up cycle everything I can. Shit I haven't purchased trash bags in easily a decade. I just use the grocery bags I get from making purchases. The little scoop that you are using is especially the same size you get in Optimum Nutrition Amino Energy (powered drink). That's what I've been using as a scoop. I use a little spoon I got with some Gelato to mix the food up. Cool video thanks so much. On a side note you are definitely not supposed to mix protein to the concisely of ketchup. At least not normally maybe for baking with.
If you enjoy doing projects, I'd suggest getting a foamular board at home depot (6 bucks) and a box of grout (12 or less if on sale) and you can make multiple ledges out of that board. I am frugal and I absolutely can't justify spending 20+ on those ledges that aren't even that nice and nothing about them justifies the price. It's crazy to me. Same with the caves. I mean if you can find one for around 6 bucks on sale, yes, I'll spend that, but I would never spend 30 dollars on a cave I can easily make myself. And especially make it to look the way I want it to. Some of the brown caves look like potatoes 😂 not hard to do better. I love doing projects for my reptiles, saving money is a big bonus. And I use bottle caps too, they work perfectly and you can still return the bottles for cash refunds even without the caps so long as the label is on there, the machine should take it. Win win.
Instead of using a screwdriver, I just use the opposite end of the spoon to stir and then wipe after use. Mixes much faster and easier for those who one have a few geckos. I have 9.
This is awesome I just got a crested gecko and didn’t know how much to put in and the instructions were confusing but now it’s all good! Thank you for your simple instructions
Bottle caps have been working really well for my little ones. I actually made a feeding ledge myself out of foam/grout for their adult enclosures I'm still building and it turned out really nice. If you get one of those foamular boards from home depot for 5.98, you can make quite a few ledges out of it and it is way cheaper. You can get a big box of grout for 9-12 dollars and for mine I actually put velcro on it because I already had it and wanted to save money, works perfectly. Those ledges are so expensive for what they are...
Hi there, and thanks for all of your videos. They've helped me considerably in raising my little Crested Gecko, Cid. I do have a question for you though. He is a seemingly normal healthy gecko, but he refuses to eat food that isn't on the ground. He will go as far as pulling the cups out of the hanging holder and dropping them onto the ground. He also seems to prefer mealworms over cgd. Is this. . . Normal?
Awesome video! Very informative. Can you do a video explaining how to determine the value of your gecko and how much to sell it for (for breeders)? That would be awesome. Thank you for the amazing content 👍
AMAZING like always. A quick question, do geckos get their food by smell or by sight? Im not sure if my gecko is finding his food. He is 18 grams, in a 20 gallon tank with lots of climbing spaces. Correct humidity, 70-79 degrees. I use the EXACT same feeding schedule as you. THank you for helping me so much
What kind of water is best to mix with the food? Does it have to be treated? Also, I use contact lens cases to feed my crickets! They’re the perfect size for small creatures and actually hold quite a bit of food.
Im struggling alot with feeding my crested gecko. Iv had him for at least four weeks now and im still not sure if hes eating. I normally put his food in a bottle cap but i find it very hard to tell if hes even touched it. In case he didn't like the food I was giving him iv been mixing ( safe ) fruits in with his diet. Even with the different variety of fruits it still doesn't seem like hes eaten. Hes only two months and in a 10 gallon ( temporary ) tank. Do you think he's not eating because he can't find his food? Also if you haven't already can you make a video about a crested geckos size as it ages? I want to make sure hes in the best condition possible.
I got a crescent gecko and I was expecting him to be calm nope and he jumped all over the place and now I’m just so scared of him i don’t even want to touch him I mean I would love to tame him but my brother barley tried to pick him up and he tried to bite him help what do I do :/
Don’t touch him for at least a week, let it settle in. Then just place your hand in the enclosure, not on him and just keep it in for a few minutes. Keep doing this daily for a while until it gets used to your hand. He will probably come towards you after a bit, this is called reptile to hand not hand to reptile as this can hugely stress them out. Watch some gaming videos :)
I have a crested gecko u can probably see on my profile pic but I never see her eat the paste food sometimes I like get her out and give her some do u think I’m doing something wrong
If you use the contact lens cases, hot far in advance can you mix the diet? Would you people to mix a weeks worth at the time and store them with a lid in the refrigerator and just switch out the cases as needed?
Hello so I’m going to be getting a crested gecko very soon and I was just wondering since I don’t want to buy that specific food I was wondering if you could just use the scoop that it came with and measure it into a tablespoon or teaspoon and find out how much it is in teaspoons or tablespoons I hope you see this if you do please help me out
I just got a baby cresty yesterday like a literal baby he so cute and tiny or her I still need to name em but idk if it’s a boy or girl cause if it is a girl I name her Everest boy I name em rocky like after the mountains🙃🙂but I didn’t really know how to make the food or give it too em I made the food and it still looked a bit watery I let it sit for awhile tho but I just went ahead and put it in just cause I thought the lil man was hungry but I put it at the bottom of his enclosure should I mix it a little more if it’s still a little watery cause idk😭😂
when making extra and putting it in the fridge how long does it stay good for the brand of food i have is papaya pangea gecko diet i change the food every 2-3 days
Idk if I understand you correctly, but you should never mix bigger amounts just for later use. To still answer your question: I personally wouldnt let it sit for more than 3 days. As 3 days is a pretty good feedingcycle for most geckos anyways, there is no need to "premix" any food.
It's funny because I prefer Pangea for my gecko but had to buy a pack of ZooMed diet when I brought him home cause that's all they had at the store, so I got the scoop. Lol.
they are addicting. I bought a second one before my first one arrived. Now I'm looking for a third. haha thanks for your awesome content! You were one of the people that inspired me to get a crested gecko!
I realized my geckos like there food a bit more watery than is recommended in most crested gecko food videos mine don't take the food that well if it's too thick
We have four adult crested geckos and together they wouldn't eat that much, not even half but we would give half between the four of them. Ours are chunks too. Getting my husband to listen about not giving so many crickets, is impossible!
i got one of those hampster cup things for my crestie and she ended up tipping it over so i was wondering so i recorded her and she goes under it and jumps... IT FLIES
They look kinda tasty. I don't give my gecko these diets. I think they are ok but personally i think they are really overpriced and geckos still get mbd when on them. I personally make my own using fresh fruit. Its been very successful so far. My gecko has been here for 1 year and is very healthy
Mine absolutely love mealworm pupa and small dubias but I also give them small mealworms and crickets. My geckos are both still very small (one is 6g the other is 4g) and they are the absolute most aggressive eaters I have ever had as a pet I swear lol. The tiny one almost ripped the tweezers out of my hand the other day and the other one jumped up and grabbed the mealworm pupa off of the tongs before I was halfway in the enclosure. They're hilarious. I use brians feeding rotation and everytime I feed insects I usually do 3-4 which is really plenty. They gobble it all up, I think they would even eat more but I don't want them to overdo it so for now they get 3-4 insects depending on what it is and how big the insect is, twice a week. Oh and the mealworm pupa, crickets and dubias are from what I've observed the easiest for them to eat, with the mealworms it takes them a hot minute to get them down. Hope this helps
I feed 400+ a mixture that is a bit thicker than this, and I give them maybe 0.2 oz mixed. Even the fat adults don't eat it all. Giving them a full 1.5 oz. cup is insane. That's ~40g of food for a ~40g animal.
I agree with you. I put a thin layer on the bottom of my adults 1.5-ounce dishes and a dime-sized spot in the .5 dishes of babies. This food is almost never all eaten. I can't afford to waste this much food I would go broke with my collection. lol My 99-gram juvenile leachianus won't even eat the amount of food he put in that 1.5-ounce dish.
