Dementia is one of the cruellest illnesses, robbing people who are funny, kind, warm, intelligent and remarkable of the things that make them who they are. This is a lovely story. Very moving.
He reminds me so much of how my father...the way he looks, his big personality and laughter. (My father died last year, 93 years old). Full of life, strong personality and dementia caused anger and aggression, confusion. Absolutely devastating. So I am so glad to see that Tom was able to improve emotionally and find happiness even while struggling.
Wow...heartbreaking & beautiful all @ the same time. You know what shows, above all else? LOVE. That's the answer. Even when it crushes us, pushes us, stretches us, refines us. It makes you & everyone around us, better. Let's be better. LOVE. LOVE. LOVE.
I went through all of that with my 98 year old Dad. So much of your documentary was familiar to me. Your documentary was 4 years ago. Could we please have an update?
Trueseeker12 Really? My dad has early onset dementia. Has had it since his 40s and is now in his mid late 50s. It is slightly noticeable, barely but just enough to know (or maybe I'm just being overly optimistic about it and down playing it) but he has to take pictures of things at work to remember and has gotten lost twice coming home. He is on Aricept for it. Sorry about the rant.. But I'll be looking up coconut oil but would love a reply with any info you know about it or firsthand knowledge. Thank you, hun! 😊
Hi , Sorry to hear about your dad, but dementia really can be reversed, so it's never too late to try!! I haven't any personal experience with coconut oil and dementia, but have heard many positive things about it over the years. It's a lot to do with the good fats you see and too many people today are on a low fat, high carb diet, when they should be eating more good fats and much lower amounts of carbs and of course, virtually NO sugar! Some doctors have even called Alzheimers 'Type 3 Diabetes.... "Scientists now call Alzheimer’s disease “Type 3 diabetes.” What’s the link between Alzheimer’s and diabetes? Well, new research shows insulin resistance, or what I call diabesity (from eating too many carbs and sugar and not enough fat) is one of the major factors that starts the brain-damage cascade, which robs the memory of over half the people in their 80s, leading to a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s disease." drhyman.com/blog/2016/02/12/why-alzheimers-is-now-considered-type-3-diabetes/ universityhealthnews.com/daily/memory/ketogenic-diet-shows-promising-results-for-all-dementia-stages/ You may also be interested in this: www.awakeningfromalzheimers.com/ Best of luck with your dad! x
Trueseeker12 Yeah, my dad also has type 2 diabetes but it is barely detectable now and completely under control but after what you have explained, it makes it scary to think about but also hopeful that he has both. Thank you for taking the time to write back. You have honestly, made more sense and helped better than any number of neurologists we've seen. I'll be digging deep into the web about all this amazing stuff. Thank you again.
Aaw he made *me* cry when he was crying for his grandfather. Old age is so cruel. 😢
Same. Still sniffling.
