Hey Sarah and Kevin! I have been watching your channel for years. We moved into our first homestead last year and hit the ground running by getting laying hens and clearing out a very large garden area with plans on adding raised beds and extending it out a bit, but we also planned ahead and got rabbit cages knowing they might be more expensive or hard to find later 9because of all the chaos), so right now we have 4 large rabbit cages and we plan to build a tree around them with leftover metal roofing from the project that was done on our home. We are very excited because this will be the first animal we raise for meat and it will start our journey towards being self sufficient. We are so thankful that you are once again making a series about rabbits because for us it is just in time! Here is our question: What is the best way to build a rabbit tree that will both save the manure for gardening later and also protect the rabbits from the heat of the Summer and the bitter cold in the Winter? We live in the frozen North so any advice on keeping them warm would be much appreciated. Thank you!! Now I'm going to go get ready for the eight inches on snow heading our way in about an hour =)
Your videos on rabbit tractors is how we found your channel. Next, we learned about using landscape fabric. We were hooked. Love your channel and really appreciate your teaching series. We found another family here in Wisconsin who are fans of your channel too. I have seen rabbits raised in shed, in rabbit tractors, outside in fenced area in colonies.. soo many different ways. We have outdoors hutches, fenced area in the garden where I let them run sometimes and I am thinking about making a space for them in shed and try small colony. Good luck with your bunnies :-)

Good morning! I started watching your videos a few months ago. We just had our first litter of rabbits 3weeks ago. I am excited about this new rabbit series. One thing I am struggling with my breeders are the female are reluctant to breed. We were gifted the rabbits from my brothers buddy so we don't know age you if it is common. I have started to switch out breeders with rabbits I know the age and history with. I was successful on breeding a new female breeder (it took a couple days to get 2 fall offs) and I was successful with one fall off with a older female (took a couple of weeks) so question I have... What are something you do when you have a reluctant female? Or what suggestions do you have for someone who is just starting the journey of breeding rabbits?
I'm excited to learn about raising rabbits. I have never done it before so this step by step info will be just enough to get me started. The things I really need a better understanding of is how to kill/process the rabbits. That is the part that scares me the most. I also would like to know what to do with the pellets - how to do the whole process of it and preserving them for use. I also have no idea how to cook rabbit meat. À few years ago I babysat a rabbit. A couple of days later there were tons of flies on my living room windows. My goodness, what an experience. I really couldn’t smell anything when I got home, but the flies!!!
I raised rabbits for a few years a long time ago. I was careful about interbreeding and then I had a 2 yr old doe with her 3 litter eat every one. I got pretty put off by that but kept at it. She did it again and then I was done. They had a good diet and large individual cages with indoor space and out door space. Is there anything that can cause that behavior or is that now a rabbit for the pot?
This after trying several litters , should become pot meat . Find another doe , and quit wasting time with this rabbit , not ALL rabbits make good moms , just like people .

Really excited for this updated series! In a future video, would you be able to cover coccidia, especially when raising the does with kits in tractors? Specifically, any prevention and safety of eating meat from an affected rabbit (with coccidia liver spots).
Good video Sarah! Rather than the hutches is there any reason one could not raise all the does together in an enclosed run with a hutch for each one - similar to the rabbit tractors but in a permanent location in winter? Chickens have a rooster to hen ratio - is there one for rabbits? Take care, keep smiling and God Bless.
Biggest issue for rabbits is feeding them Vitamin B complex - as that is the reason why they eat their pellets and recycle the Vit B inside - same reason why rabbit manure helps plants - Vit B complex is an energy vital amino acid - and plants love getting Vit B - so feed Vit B to rabbits and your plants as well.

We raise rex breed bc we have had a better experience with them as good mothers vs California breed...even though they are small they give a good amount of babies and when harvesting time comes its still a lot of meat in jars for are family or 7. I place one rabbit or two in the crockpot fill with water to top (to make a bone broth) and then when its done a have about 8 jars full of meat and broth that I can use in soups, stews, potpies, dumplings ect.. we raise our own chicken and rabbits and then hunt deer. We got beef this year bc my dad raise a calf for each of his kids💜 Having a big garden and raising your own protein has been a huge blessing. Lately, Considering rabbit's, had binge watched your series you had a few years ago...got to the one your spouse processed one, saw it hanging there and knew I couldn't do it myself. I suppose I would need to hire one of my sons to process them for me. Or I have thought of getting a breeding pair of Tilapia.

Thank you so much for doing this Sarah. I am currently trying to learn all I can about raising meat rabbits. I am hoping come spring, we will be getting our first pare of does and a buck. Thank you again and Merry Christmas!
Have you considered putting in drop down nesting boxes? I think I'm going to try them. Less chance of babies freezing because of being pulled out of the nest.

We have outside pins with a roof and 3 sides and a messing Box inside. They are all old enough to get started I do have goats and I do have Timothy hay which I also supplement in the feed for the rabbits Thank you very much for your tips and your wisdom God-bless you
Thank you for this helpful information. I wish you would add more rabbit videos like you mentioned. I’d like to what type of hay and pellet feeder works best? What size should the nesting box be? Any other helps would be great.
Hi Sarah, Seasons greetings. I have California rabbits I found on Craigs list... they are registered pure breds. One thing I would like to know is have you ever freeze dried rabbit meat in cubes cut off the bone? If so did it freeze dry well, how was it once you used it in a meal? Blessings to you and yours. Kevin hope your having luck deer hunting.
How many bucks and does do I need to have? Is there an ideal "starter herd" size? And, is it important that bucks and does that will breed together are not related, and to what degree?
Thanks, Sarah. I’ve been wondering if smell would be a problem. I’m on a small city lot and my kitchen window opens up near to where I would keep them. Is there anything you do to keep down the smell. If you cover that in a video after this one, I’ll get the answer from it. I plan to watch this recent series on rabbets. I watched your old series, but don’t think you discussed it in those. Thanks!
Maybe I missed it but did you cover what you do with the rabbit pelts? Do you sell the pelts for added income? I don't believe I have ever heard you say that you were tanning and using the pelts yourself. Great video and concise information.

Thank you! I think even tho handicapped I could raise them but not process.
You need to try rabbitt salad sandwiches it's same as chicken salad, I shred mine in a food processor
Thank you!
Terrific information! Thank you so much!
This is perfect timing for me. I plan to get all set up and ready for them by spring.
Question:. What is the temperature range for raising rabbits? Thanks for developing this series for us, very appreciated!!
Justin Rhodes needs to see this.
If great information. Thank you
Thank you so much for doing this Sarah. I am currently trying to learn all I can about raising meat rabbits. I am hoping come spring, we will be getting our first pare of does and a buck. Thank you again and Merry Christmas!
Looking forward to learning more!
It is a meat rarely eaten in my country, rabbitts are pets here, but I am rather keen to try grow them for food, BUT must find out about local laws
God bless Merry Christmas all.
Perfect! We just got pair of Califs
This is great! Excited to learn more. ❤️
Have you considered putting in drop down nesting boxes? I think I'm going to try them. Less chance of babies freezing because of being pulled out of the nest.
I am your new subscriber and you are doing an excellent job on giving Rabbit information.
I could never eat a bunny to cute to even think of doing it. But I love your videos
Good morning I'm just getting started in rabbits up here in northern Michigan We are in the 20th degrees right now to the mid thirties . Have you breed in the Winter. We have outside pins with a roof and 3 sides and a messing Box inside. They are all old enough to get started I do have goats and I do have Timothy hay which I also supplement in the feed for the rabbits Thank you very much for your tips and your wisdom God-bless you
Thank you, ma'am!
And if you come across any of those medial problems with someone trying to sell rabbits., REPORT IT AS ANIMAL NEGLECT.
Thank you for this helpful information. I wish you would add more rabbit videos like you mentioned.
I’d like to what type of hay and pellet feeder works best? What size should the nesting box be?
Any other helps would be great.
GOOD info !
Awesome lesson
Thanks for this awesome video Sarah 👍
You & Kevin are the best !
Good stuff to look for even if you have your own rabbits. I’m looking at raising some as pets so the care would be the same (I assume).
What would be a fair price for the New Zealand rabbits?
How many bucks and does do I need to have? Is there an ideal "starter herd" size? And, is it important that bucks and does that will breed together are not related, and to what degree?
Thank you i want to start this
Merry Merry Christmas 🌲
Hey Sarah! Ok we’re thinking about raising rabbits for meat & manure for lol our garden. Tell me about processing the meat because we’re on an acre 👍
Great video, you know your rabbits!
🎉🎉🎉 Thank you!
Thanks!
Great information. Was wondering if Missouri allows a person to sell the meat?
Maybe I missed it but did you cover what you do with the rabbit pelts? Do you sell the pelts for added income? I don't believe I have ever heard you say that you were tanning and using the pelts yourself. Great video and concise information.
