Sir, why we provide air void in DBM & BC layers?
Two main reasons: (1) Air voids allow the layer to compact further under traffic and hence cracking is avoided and, (2) Air voids allow the asphalt binder to expand slightly when the temperature increases. You cannot compact the layer to zero percent air voids.
