I ALWAYS love the story of how Cracklin' Rosie came to be. It was the very first of his huge library that I ever heard on the radio. I think I was 11 at the time. I remember it was mom's radio in the kitchen, the ONLY radio in our house, and I could only find what I called real music by sneaking to it when she wasn't around. She came into the kitchen as I was listening to this and she asked who was singing it. I told her Neil Diamond. Her response was "I thought he was dead". I have no idea what gave her that idea, and I have no idea how she even knew his name because that is not what she listened to. Her "music" was sort of what you would hear in elevators back in the 70s. No voices, just instruments. Every Saturday night, when supper was over, Lawrence Welk was on the tv. I didn't care what the weather was, I was outside playing, otherwise it was like hearing fingernails on a chalkboard for me. In 6th grade our teacher brought a record player to class and I was introduced to Simon and Garfunkel. It was in the next few years that I realized that there was so much amazing music to listen to, and with all of the singers I have loved in my 64 years, ND will always be my #1. When our school bus came with a radio I was probably in 7th grade, I was on the bus an hour in the morning (1st one on) and an hour at night (last one off). I never complained as I was introduced to so much amazing music. For all of us who were fortunate to grow up in the 70's, that was the best decade for so many things, especially music. I can't imagine The Jazz Singer without ND and his music. Thanks for this Doug, I think it may have been here a long time ago, but my memory isn't that good. This was awesome.

@@NeilDiamondCentral Ahh Doug, it's been awhile since I was asked about the spelling. Get yourself a snack because I have a story for you. Back in 1998, when we got our first home computer, our small rural community had only one option for an internet provider, and the paperwork to be filled out was crazy. Then it came down to a username for email. I was limited to 7 characters, so everything I ran through my head for about an hour was no less than 8 characters. I was getting frustrated by it all. The word I had wanted to use was "survivors" from the Collin Raye song "Survivors". The lyrics of that song were so fitting to my life as well as my husband's life at that point, and finally I decided to create it but with one less letter. Hence, Survivrs. All these years later I have never changed it. Email providers have changed, but I stick with the same name. The internet has changed so much, there are many providers, it's no longer dial-up, I still have a PC with a tower and a 19" screen that I could probably use as a small tv screen. I haven't used it in several years and may never use it again. Laptops are so much more convenient. We can go visit our kids and grandkids 500 miles away and pack our laptops. We've been there quite a bit the past few months so I don't spend much time online during those times, but if I have an email from you, I leave it until I can get to it. Sorry about the book!! I've only had a few people accuse me of not knowing how to spell, so I give them a condensed version of the story and they leave me alone. I'm afraid that if I try to change it, my email, facebook, and everything else from Netflix on down will have fun trying to make me come up with the right passwords because it's not the same spelling, and I'm too old to go through that much mental trauma. 😃

Thanks for posting this. Part of it was familiar. The late Neil, Also. I needed this today. I'm fed up and really loading my Patience with all the pseudo fans who get só enthusiastic about all those (many, many) shows by immitators who simply piggyback on Neil's name and talent. To hear the REAL Neil and see him, albeit in video is very refreshing and leaves me with the hope that there are some fans left for whom Neil remains UNIQUE and INIMITABLE! ( IT's the 3rd time your posts come at the absolute right time!)

So glad that I posted this video when I did, seeing that you were in need of a _pick me-up._ I believe we had this conversation before wherein I stated that I formed the opinion that there often is way too much navel-gazing on social media platforms. As for the impersonators, I have an open mind, I believe in live and let live. Just so long as they are not in any way causing deliberate harm. Guess that as a consequence of Neil never returning to the stage, these performers do provide a form of service to those who love Neil's songs. Further to that, they are, perhaps, in a way _"keeping the dream alive."_ Not my cup of tea... but to each his/her own. I remember receiving comments from a fair number of dyed-in-the-wool fans (of many decades) who were critical of the Neil Diamond Beautiful Noise Musical. Again, to each his/her own. Neil will always remain unique and inimitable; one of a kind. Undiluted perfection. There are those amongst us who treasure/cling on to that and always will. Sadly, literally thousands were taken from us by COVID, and in no greater numbers than in the United States where the then President made light of the seriousness of the disease. Take care, Doug

Hi Doug, I just listened to this. 'Have heard some of these interviews before but who said you can't listen to them again and again? Hearing his voice talking is almost the same as hearing him sing, it's music. In fact, it's even more interesting! Did God pour some special intoxicating honey into his voice at the time of creating Mr D? 'Could listen to this voice talking all night. Because it is silent at night without the disturbances of the day. But could listen to this voice at any time, actually. Lucky those who get to do that. I actually wonder if he talks a lot anymore😶 Before writing this, I was reading some of the comments (I do this only sometimes, excepting of course on my own little channel); well, @survivrs' comments were so interesting to read. She talked of her mother and it reminded me of mine. My mother was also not meant to know about Neil(she didn't listen to western music as a rule but used to talk about Danny Kaye when we were kids. Anyway, it honestly surprised me when last year in June I deliberately played a few lines of Song Sung Blue and Stones for her and asked her if she knew who the singer was, never expecting her to know the name. But she promptly said "Neil Diamond". Well...she never ceased to surprise🙏❤ Now, at last...re your video. Loved it!! Honestly, it is just so EXACTLY as I had imagined the setting for Cracklin' Rosie to be, I felt a bit amazed. And using that image of the actual bottle, wow Doug! You surpass yourself. Loved it all. To be honest, I could not listen to the whole video as it's a bit long and I have assignments to do. Procrastinating since morning. I did skim through the second half, and will probably come back to it at a better time. I know what you mean about listening to Neil, a voice once described by singer Lulu as _"rich, chocolatey"._ Interesting to learn that you share a similar story with Kathy (Survivrs). Can't understand why you Mum _"was also not meant to know about Neil"._ After all, Neil was never that outrageous alcohol/drug fuelled singer, quite the opposite. Why? Even his "rebellion" (according to him) song "The Boat that I Row" talked about _Not hanging around with the local crowd not digging what's in, and therefore being out._ Mr Clean. So glad, however, that your Mum did, indeed, listen/absorb Neil gems. Wonderful! Thanks for your kind words regarding my video. I do my best. Thanks for posting this. Part of it was familiar. The late Neil, Also. I needed this today. I'm fed up and really loading my Patience with all the pseudo fans who get só enthusiastic about all those (many, many) shows by immitators who simply piggyback on Neil's name and talent. To hear the REAL Neil and see him, albeit in video is very refreshing and leaves me with the hope that there are some fans left for whom Neil remains UNIQUE and INIMITABLE! ( IT's the 3rd time your posts come at the absolute right time!)

So glad that I posted this video when I did, seeing that you were in need of a _pick me-up._ I believe we had this conversation before wherein I stated that I formed the opinion that there often is way too much navel-gazing on social media platforms. As for the impersonators, I have an open mind, I believe in live and let live. Just so long as they are not in any way causing deliberate harm. Guess that as a consequence of Neil never returning to the stage, these performers do provide a form of service to those who love Neil's songs. Further to that, they are, perhaps, in a way _"keeping the dream alive."_ Not my cup of tea... but to each his/her own.
I remember receiving comments from a fair number of dyed-in-the-wool fans (of many decades) who were critical of the Neil Diamond Beautiful Noise Musical. Again, to each his/her own.
Neil will always remain unique and inimitable; one of a kind. Undiluted perfection. There are those amongst us who treasure/cling on to that and always will. Sadly, literally thousands were taken from us by COVID, and in no greater numbers than in the United States where the then President made light of the seriousness of the disease. Take care, Doug

Hi Doug, I just listened to this. 'Have heard some of these interviews before but who said you can't listen to them again and again? Hearing his voice talking is almost the same as hearing him sing, it's music. In fact, it's even more interesting! Did God pour some special intoxicating honey into his voice at the time of creating Mr D? 'Could listen to this voice talking all night. Because it is silent at night without the disturbances of the day. But could listen to this voice at any time, actually. Lucky those who get to do that. I actually wonder if he talks a lot anymore😶
Before writing this, I was reading some of the comments (I do this only sometimes, excepting of course on my own little channel); well, @survivrs' comments were so interesting to read. She talked of her mother and it reminded me of mine. My mother was also not meant to know about Neil(she didn't listen to western music as a rule but used to talk about Danny Kaye when we were kids. Anyway, it honestly surprised me when last year in June I deliberately played a few lines of Song Sung Blue and Stones for her and asked her if she knew who the singer was, never expecting her to know the name. But she promptly said "Neil Diamond". Well...she never ceased to surprise🙏❤
Now, at last...re your video. Loved it!! Honestly, it is just so EXACTLY as I had imagined the setting for Cracklin' Rosie to be, I felt a bit amazed. And using that image of the actual bottle, wow Doug! You surpass yourself. Loved it all. To be honest, I could not listen to the whole video as it's a bit long and I have assignments to do. Procrastinating since morning. I did skim through the second half, and will probably come back to it at a better time. But want to say Thank You So Much to you for bringing the Diamond Man to us in a way only you can, please don't stop. You and this wonderful channel NDC are a true friend to Neil Diamond. Was working furiously on my latest video for the past week - ua-cam.com/video/MdnFKLQJydg/v-deo.html when I'm working on a video, I generally shut everything else out, giving it my full attention. I know what you mean about listening to Neil, a voice once described by singer Lulu as _"rich, chocolatey"._
Interesting to learn that you share a similar story with Kathy (Survivrs). Can't understand why you Mum _"was also not meant to know about Neil"._ After all, Neil was never that outrageous alcohol/drug fuelled singer, quite the opposite. Why? Even his "rebellion" (according to him) song "The Boat that I Row" talked about _Not hanging around with the local crowd not digging what's in, and therefore being out._ Mr Clean. So glad, however, that your Mum did, indeed, listen/absorb Neil gems. Wonderful!
