- Barack Obama spoke at Farm Aid 2005 in Tinley Park, Illinois about the importance of family farmers. He also introduced Chicago's own Wilco, who played "Airline to Heaven."
Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers.
For more information about Farm Aid, visit: farmaid.org/you...
Farm Aid's performances are donated by the artists in order to raise funds and raise awareness for family farmers. They've raised their voices to help - what can you do?
I was fifteen. This was my first concert ever. The sox won this year. Life was bliss.
He did sign a $956 billion farm bill into law in 2014. Certainly has my respect.
a president can sign any bill financial aid bill he wants but if the money doesn't reach the people, like virtually most of this money didn't, then it's a useless as the paper he signed!
curragh 42 ,of their own money. Never trust a Trumpturd, they lie and cheat.
I so miss President Obama--- caring, compassion, a vision for the country, a role model, a good husband and father.
He is amazing. 💗
obama was/is a murderer
@@Benidorm167 no one asked you
@@PotatoMaGobinus that's it go live in your little dream world.....pretend these things never happened........obama like the rest of them are just servants to the cabal.....can I ask one thing though? what colours the sky in your little illusional world?
Selling arms to Syria, weapons confirmed with taking lives of our soldiers. Oh yes, truly amazing man
you know what? even when he makes an introduction for a band he makes it sound like the most empowering speech on earth - just absolutely incredible......
Great intro, by a great man, introducing a great band - wish I could've been there!
Obama ist ein Kriegsverbrecher
Not many bands can say the president essentially opened for them.
O'bama even listens to Farm Aid! Pretty Cooll!
Ha, ha! Donald Trump did even one better! He got up on stage with Dee Snyder of Twisted Sister and sang "We're gonna take it" For St. Jude's Children's Hospital and than his family gave them a check for 50,000 bucks!!!
Seriously?? Dee Snyder & Trump, are doing one better? Oh WOW. I'm sad for you. As sad, ashamed, embarrassed, as I am for the rest of us.
Obama was a senator in 2005; He has been elected as the president of USA only in 2008... ;-)
However I can understand how important this could be now for Wilco.
Love Obama. Love Wilco. Both men of substance and honour.
In 2017 RIP America #ResistTrump
@curragh 42You're a hateful human.
@curragh 42 I know you told a stranger to drop dead. That's hateful. Then your response to me what generalized and also hateful. Glad you like Wilco though. Why else would you be here?
@curragh 42 you are full of hypocrisy.
traceymod buck Ofama
wish we could turn back the clock, we had so much hope then. at least we still have Wilco. All is not lost.
I know.
I know that comment is a year old, but it made me laugh today. So, congrats on someone laughing at your year-old joke!
Wilco will love you baby
Man, if you were bummed out then...
Now it'd be the reverse. Wilco says "I want everyone to give it up for Obama".
Proud to Say I am a Daughter of a Indiana Farm Boy, & A very Proud Supporter/Voter of President Obama.
I'm so so so happy with Wilco (I'm from Holland, from 1996 and fan from 2006)
I think this is my favorite Wilco song.
Brings a tear to my eye.
One of my favorite Wilco songs! Great intro by President Obama
I love Obama, I love Wilco
I hope Whiskeytown reunites one day
Great song. Love WIlco! Poor Obama, so youthful and passionate in this video. Presidency taxes you like hell. It's the president's job in our society to be hated on and it shows in the flesh and bone.
Great damn performance! Nice to see Dana Carvey playing some back up. 😉
Appropriate that they are doing a Woody Guthrie song, a guy who represented the rights and freedoms of Americans, who travelled through the American heartland, witnessing the glories and the hardships of middle America's people, which included the dirt poor farmers of the Dustbowl.
I got tears in my eyes...mostly because this video encourages me that as a young, inner-city kid, going to school for paralegal studies...maybe someday I too can be President :)
I love this song!
I wonder if anyone knew he would be President then. What a guy!
+Extra Chill I hate to be that guy, but I called it after I saw him speak at the 2004 Convention and after reading Dreams of My Father.
I think a lot of people knew he'd be president after he gave his speech at the Democratic convention in 2004. The electricity was palpable even through the teevee set.
A great moment in time, full moon, farm aid, Wilco, and, a soon to be elected President.
His career in avant garde jazz is much more satisfying, in my opinion.
That guy's a good speaker, but he's never gonna be replaceable !
Nels Just Goes Off!! YES!
Actually I'm right wing, but i have to admit the political weight and communication capacity of Mr. Obama. Great intro
@1poorplayer I really think a lot of people are just in the dark about these very important issues. If we share our concerns than I'm sure more people will realize that things need to change. About a year a go I had no idea about our farms and the food industry. I got netflix and was addicted to documentaries. I love"The Beautiful Truth" "King Corn" "Food Inc." They opened my eyes and lead me down the path I have chosen. I care about the health of our food. I care about farmers.
Seriously, who doesn't like Nels Cline. He is a baddass guitarist.
@jerste how is that sad we need more of this.
Someone let me know if there’s a better present day American band than Wilco.
My Morning Jacket is pretty awesome.
A great American and a great American band! Woody Guthrie would be proud :)
near their zenith as a band, which is saying something as they rose from Being There through Summerteeth, YHF ...into Sky Blue Sky ...
I liked this era band the most, as a band bar none
Barack speaking into the mic like he's on WWE.
I miss President Obama so very much.
Who wants some???? Let me know. Barracl introduces Wilco. Two Chicago boys done good.
Can we please have the MC for another 8 years? Perhaps the main attraction can fill in for some Cabinet voids.
Legit the funniest thing I've ever read, but in a good way. Like, where did Obama come from?
Wonderful... great band, great president (if one would only not obstruct the latter's every move).
Very "dylanesque" sound here to my ears...
This Obama guy seems a good egg, he'll go far I reckon.
Four more years! wow
but then Nels cline flips out on the slide and amazing sounds are heard and the crowd goes fucking wild and obama shits his self .
and thousand of crops flurish with life and every thing is peaceful once again
Obama Khakis on point. :)
HolyCrap! AusGeuerin is hillarious! I partake and yet those were ignorant comments. Pot could certainly be beneficial in some ways but the idea of letting it free on the market now is outrageous.
@1poorplayer That's really sad! I am so sorry that this is happening in our country. All kinds of farmers are being screwed by big corporations. Then I see commercials talking about the national debt... well where do they expect farmer's to come up with all this money? credit. somebody always has to get rich. I wish more people would spend time trying to solve these problems.
Say that again?
gotta love wilco !!
@0412lennon The World Music Theater/Tweeter Center, or what ever they are calling it these days, at around Harlem Ave and Interstate 80 in Tinley Park, Il.
@Humbler25 I think American people need to contact their senators and stand for what they believe in. Unfortunately nobody has time or energy......
I miss the days of Senator Barack.
When Omama was president - that was when America was great!
rjd53 Vote again next time!
Nope. America has always been a mixed bag. We haven't had a decent President in at least sixty years. Obama was well-meaning, but a bad President.
"We will make sure they get the advocacy and support they need". In other words: "We'll take money from somewhere else and give it to farmers no matter what they produce. In fact, we'll even give them money NOT to produce in many cases."
Goddamn Obama looks great in this video. Supporting the average American, supporting one of America's best artists of all time...It's a shame he couldn't seem this way as President. Oh well, the presidency introduces many many intricacies and hardships. I still love the man, And I will absolutely vote for him in 2012 regardless of his large business affiliations and his ineffectiveness with Congress. It's mostly Congress' fault anyway.
@tophacud look it's not his fault. There's a book called "The Thomas Jefferson Education" and it basically says that since the 1900's Americans have been taught what to think instead of how to think. Untill we realize that our system isn't working there is little hope. We need to be more understanding and open minded. We are living in the information age. Let's share what we think. Let's be informative without turning people away.
you Americans damn spoilt!! thanx for posting -brilliant!
almost feel like he's about to pick up the guitar and rock out at any moment.
i just like wilco
@riovouga I hate Monsanto too! We can't blame the president though... It's the corporations who have power. All we can do is each make an effort to inform people and make the world a better place.
"Them's got ears, let them hear / Them's got eyes, let them see..."
Haha, I remember watching a repeat of this, and Obama came out, and I was watching him, thinking "Huh. A black guy in politics? That's very interesting... What the Hell was his name? Huh, too bad I'll never need to do know it."
The very next day, he blew up.
@Jeffersonwazright Community.... it's what we should care about. I wish there were more local farms instead of giant factories that don't respect life. I think all animals are entitled to sunlight. Farmer's shouldnt have to worry about being allergic to antibiotics either. I think one of th emain powers against healthy sustainable farming is MONSANTO. I want to get my master's in nutrition and then another degree in animal science so maybe I can one day run the FDA fair and just.
do they tell their sound guy to turn the bass down as low as he/she possibly can?
I lived in Central Illinois during his reign as senator. He knows ONLY Chicago politics and gave us CONSTANT grief downstate. We had a neighbor jailed over a fucking slug, because apparently the slug's rights usurped this 100+ year generation family's rights to their surface rights. (and mineral rights)
If someone tells me they don't like Wilco I tell them "Sorry, we can't be friends".
@SufjanSays Well said!
Surreal af
@lahren69 we do need to come together! I wouldn't call these issues political so much as our rights to healty food and to the truth.
Damn I miss Obama! Love Wilco.
And how high have commodity prices risen?
Hail Hank Williams!!!
Wisconsin farms ftw
@musicmatterz fast food places you do know that is all GMOs and factory farms isn't this farm aid you know family farms
represent
veil of maya is real chi town band
@mynameisgolden probably the most accurate comment regarding yout tube "debates"
Wait what! John stirrat with a beard??
Dylans new album sure is thoughtful. Remember that HW, or W film and thee Chicago scene? What would happen if? VP Pence and getting hit with a bat would feel kind.
@mynameisgolden This is probably the funniest thing I've seen on UA-cam.
I'm wracking my brain. Did Barack ever invite them to The White House?
That would've been nice. 🙂
Grab your GEDs, it's time to argue on UA-cam!
President doesn't make you or break you..Obama is Cool. If you are unhappy, look inside.. The Mind makes Well or Sick..and by the way why the hell you listenin to Wilco? I guess you just like pretty sounds..
I was Obama when I was there.
@nikkilovesdustie Try No Impact Man too, Some radical ideas. buy it gets you thinking.
@mynameisgolden I have a BA in liberal arts. Does that mean im overqualified?
@JohnnyTRex99 sound the alarm.
what is this "chicago's own wilco" about? lol they from belleville, near st louis, not chicago
Yep, along with Jeff's former best friend, Jay Farrar.
Jeff Tweedy may have grown up in Belleville, but Tweedy has lived in Chicago since the late 80's while performing with Uncle Tupelo. Wilco was formed IN CHICAGO in the early 90's. So Wilco is Chicago's own...
And it had zero effect on their sound.
Best of all, no matter how much these left wing musicians tried to push the liberal agenda, it DID NOT WORK. The Democratic party used to be about hard workers but these days its about being paid NOT to work. FAIL!!!
Well, they had to fly via Chicago, so it's their hub :D
Is that beck on the guitar
@themusicmatterz That can't be. I am still paying off student loans, im sure someone will recognize that and give me a high paying job.
What song is this?
@Illadelphism Our national governance consists of 3 co-equal branches: Legislative, Executive and Judicial.... he is not the Legislative leader. There are 2 Legislative bodies - House & Senate, & their leadership is internally constructed. Thus, the hand of the Founding Fathers (informed by the best thinking of the Enlightenment), sculpting a machine of self-governance vested in the suffrage of the Citizenry, is seen in a system of Checks and Balances. You have egregiously mis-spoken.
@themusicmatterz You do realize fast food places are almost always hiring, don't you?
The economy's shit yeah, but you can get a job, just they don't pay well :P.
Where is this at. Is this at MPP?
Nels Cline is a good guitarist but I agree. Summerteeth era Wilco is much better.
@frother Do you realize our food industry is in a world of hurt and unless you dont eat anything from the grociery store than you should care too. Atleast someone is fighting for our rights.
How cool would it be to have a president introduce you?
Nels!
@themusicmatterz nonsense I have a liberal arts degree with an emphasis is lesbian dance studies, Im sure someone will need someone to explain the difference between styles of lesbian dance.
holy shit hes aged soooo much in the past few years.
Jeff has indeed.

@tyrohne WHY DON'T U SAY THAT TO HIS FACE
Love the Wilco. Love the Guthrie. Tinley Park is OK I guess.
