I'm not old enough to have been there, in the moment, for early Wilco. That being said, how can I not appreciate the entire discography? When getting into a band, I'm a deep dive person... going from Uncle Tupelo, side projects of both past and current members, and even Son Volt just because Trace is an incredible album. Having listened to almost everything Wilco and related folks have to offer, this KEXP sessions (and mention to all the NPR sessions) are maybe Wilco's finest work. If nothing else, it's what turned me on to Wilco in 2015. Thanks KEXP!
I was there. It’s been incredible to see the seemingly effortless evolution of Jeff Tweedy from Uncle Tupelo to now. He’s truly doing whatever feels good to him and I’m there for it.
+Terrance Hill I'm actually deaf. I blew my eardrums out at some WHO shows back in the 70s and 80s...but I'm sure Wilco sounds great in this video because the camera work and lighting is the best I've ever seen.
+Tim Schmidt Then you ought to enjoy Jeff Tweedy's music that attempts to come from the south but can't escape the Chicago city limits.....o deep boys...
Can't stop listening to this. I think everyone would agree that Wilco is THE band of the century so far. And by the way, the acoustic version of black nova is the Mona Lisa of postmodern folk :) !!
+Andrew L. I have always loved BBNova but this version takes it to a whole new level! This whole show is unreal! What a gift from the music gods...... Thank you music gods.
I always wondered what it would sound like if Wilco came to my house and brought some acoustic guitars and jammed in my living room. I guess I don't have to wonder any more...
I don't know if their music will be your thing or not, but check out John Stirratt and Pat Sansone's other band, Autumn Defense sometime if you haven't already. facebook.com/TheAutumnDefense/ soundcloud.com/search?q=autumn%20defense
You just know the folk at KEXP love what they do, it must be amazing to be so involved with so much good music and to present it to other people who love what they do.
I don't know these guys but they just always seem to be the happiest bunch, full of love and respect for each other. Not many bands have that and I can only think of The Tragically Hip who also had something like that.
One of my all time fav band, oh well definitely my fav today. Tweedy is my generation Dylan. Can't stop look at this, perfect audio for a perfect show.
+Chris Leavenworth Couldn't disagree more but I'm glad you're enjoying it. I just watch these clips to hear the stuff from Being There/Summerteeth/Yankee Hotel Foxtrot.
+Louie Young He's an absolute magician live, I agree, but I think Being There through A Ghost is Born are their four best Albums, by a gigantic margin. Live shows with Nels are much better though.
This is brilliant. I found Bull Black Nova (20.00) particularly stirring when stripped back to the raw, eerie intensity at it's core.. wonderful sonic shadow delving
God this is incredible! Also made me appreciate Star Wars more when the songs are played like this. This is a band that doesn't stop innovating just because of success and age. But with that success and age comes a lot of letting go and having fun! This is just an infectious set. I think I'm going to listen to it like 40 times.
This version of Misunderstood just is soooooooooo special, obviously next to the whooooole set, just this version...I come back to it EVERYDAY...Mahalo KEXP.
I love how much Jeff trusts John. I love that he gave him a more prominent role. John stepped up. There's a reason Tweedy sees him as the only irreplacable member of Wlco.
It’s so incredibly refreshing to see a performance by musicians who have really mastered dynamics. It seems to be a dying art, and it’s really where all the beauty and emotion lies. Also, the best Daniel Johnston cover I’ve heard (“True Love Will Find You In The End”)
Who gives this a thumbs down? These guys are at the top of their game. And most of these songs have been reworked for acoustic guitars. Check your ears

definitely the type of band you wanna be in when your older. or younger. it's like you can put tie-dyes on them or cowboy boots and it would still fit.
Can’t even imagine what turned off the thumbs down people to this performance. I would challenge anyone to reinvent themselves the way Wilco can. Writing a one hit wonder is a miracle in itself. Now imagine having Wilco’s amazing catalog of music and then waking up one day and saying “let’s do a killer all acoustic set” and actually pulling it off . Incredible talent all around.
Wow. I'm impressed at the range of instrumentation to the miking to the arrangements. Comprehensive. I like this more than the rangey psychedelic outros of the recent live shows.
The beginning of "Bull Black Nova" (which turned out to be my favorite song of this whole performance) reminded me of "Fight This Generation" by Pavement! Kinda cool. I've never heard anything like "Bull Black Nova" from Wilco... I thought it was awesome.

That audio engineer deserves a massive raise.
KEXP, making better live recordings than the originals since 1972
@@JamesSathre with exceptionally strange mic placement, no less.
I just listened all the way through and you're right, the sound is stellar, even on a Mac...they're grand!
The engineering is great, for sure, but I have to say, this is also the sound of a band that f**king SHOWS UP FOR THE SOUNDCHECK.
@@shorthopedc yup!
I truly believe that the world is a better place thanks to Wilco and the beautiful music they've created for our enjoyment!

Coy you gotta check out the Jayhawks and a supergroup they had with some in Wilco, called Golden Smog!
I was there. It’s been incredible to see the seemingly effortless evolution of Jeff Tweedy from Uncle Tupelo to now.
He’s truly doing whatever feels good to him and I’m there for it.
I can't even begin to summarize my love for this band.
this is one of the best sets I have ever seen
This set alone has made me a Wilco fan
+Tim Schmidt Seen OK..What about heard?
+Terrance Hill I'm actually deaf. I blew my eardrums out at some WHO shows back in the 70s and 80s...but I'm sure Wilco sounds great in this video because the camera work and lighting is the best I've ever seen.
+Tim Schmidt Then you ought to enjoy Jeff Tweedy's music that attempts to come from the south but can't escape the Chicago city limits.....o deep boys...
+Zachary Pfleghaar I totally agree. This is great!
You can tell the relationship between Jeff and John is special. You can see they respect each other so much musically
Can't stop listening to this. I think everyone would agree that Wilco is THE band of the century so far. And by the way, the acoustic version of black nova is the Mona Lisa of postmodern folk :) !!
I KNOW, right? Amazing! Simply the best American band. Are there ANY bands today that are better?
@@davyt7266 The Pretty Reckless...different genre, and not better, but as good.
completely unreal version of Bull Black Nova - holy shit!
Can now say i've been coming back to this recording like I would with a favorite album. It's a home, it's in the head.
I saw these guys live in Bloomington, IN this weekend and it was truly the best show I've been to in a long time.
Best version Bull Black Nova ever.
+Andrew L. And by a very wide margin ! :)
+Andrew L. I agree and its not normally a Wilco song I get into.
+Andrew L. I have always loved BBNova but this version takes it to a whole new level! This whole show is unreal! What a gift from the music gods...... Thank you music gods.
+Andrew L. and of course, KEXP and especially Wilco
yes!!!
The opportunity to watch this performance repeatedly is why UA-cam was created.
Don't forget cat videos.
I always love that Glen is just back there doing Glen things
I always wondered what it would sound like if Wilco came to my house and brought some acoustic guitars and jammed in my living room. I guess I don't have to wonder any more...
Wow. That was one of their best performances. And Stiratt's harmonies... never heard him do so much before. Great, great stuff here.
Terrific distraction to a day at the desk. Thanks KEXP.
I've seen Wilco multiple times and NEVER knew John Stirratt had such a terrific voice!
I don't know if their music will be your thing or not, but check out John Stirratt and Pat Sansone's other band, Autumn Defense sometime if you haven't already.

Sam Cogdell Already done so but thanks for the heads up all the same. It's a damn travesty that ALL of these guys aren't more well known.
+liljgoneman very true.
Really? John sang 'It's Just That Simple' on AM -- their first album. I've seen him do that song live as well. I've seen them 3 times.
Jane Ripley Now that you mention it, I did know he sang "Simple". I've just never seen him do anything but barely audible background vocals live.
And Petty & Heartbreakers
Wilco and Tragically Hip. Throw in the Grateful Dead and I'm pretty much set.
This what happens when you get musicians who have the highest level of respect for each
You should look up the movie, " I'm going to break your heart" it's great for explaining the struggle to get to this point
Had this on in the background while at work. Had to tab over to watch it when Bull Black Nova started. Outstanding!
I think I just found gold. California Stars always makes me drop a tear
One of the best glimpses of Wilco, great camera work & audio. headed to Greensboro on 4/29/23!
Hello Mr. Rios, I am still listening and often here in NC. Wilco shows up on my playlist and at the right time.
Fuck... I.love.this.band.
been a fan for many many years, they always deliver.....thanks for this.
34:26 A Shot in the Arm. "There's something in my veins.......... bloodier than blood." (amazing lyric)
I appreciate the Daniel Johnston cover. Awesome set.
One of my all time fav band, oh well definitely my fav today. Tweedy is my generation Dylan. Can't stop look at this, perfect audio for a perfect show.
nels' phrasing on that solo he took during bull black nova. he's been such an amazing addition to the development of the band's sound
They get so much better with age.
I agree big time
+Chris Leavenworth Couldn't disagree more but I'm glad you're enjoying it.
Yes, partly because we are aging together with Wilco.
Yours or theirs? :)
At the start of every song, I want to give it another thumbs up.
This is brilliant. I found Bull Black Nova (20.00) particularly stirring when stripped back to the raw, eerie intensity at it's core.. wonderful sonic shadow delving
Amazing! always seems to amaze and captivate me. WILCO IS TIMELESS!

That Bull Black Nova was outstanding
Amazing performance -- thanks KEXP for bringing in such great bands.
Such a wonderful video. This live "I'm Always in Love" version is just awesome.
I love how much Jeff trusts John. I love that he gave him a more prominent role. John stepped up. There's a reason Tweedy sees him as the only irreplacable member of Wlco.
John RULES.
I am shocked this lineup gelled. Well now this one. But any wilco linenup.
I love the sincerity of this band. This is one of their best shows and one of the best KEXP shows. Amazing, raw performance.

This made me shed some tears on my first listen. New record slaps!
Amazing performance! Please come back to LA again soon!
Best all-around band since The Band. Amazing versatility.
Wow Nels is a treat to watch in this gig! Awesome stuff.
Wilco could do 5 live albums and they'd all be different arrangements. That's what I love about them.
So freakin awesome, best takes of Wilco I ever saw!
great set from one of the best bands ever, thanks for sharing.
How does Jeff sing SO FAR away from that dynamic microphone and it still is crystal clear?? So confused. So amazing.
+Ryan Cohen Ha. I thought the same thing. Wish I could explain.
+Ryan Cohen cause nothing's plugged in. that results in a *very* quiet stage. check out some videos of pre-monitor era bands playing, most of those folks are much farther from the mics than performers today. watch some of the Buck Owens show, you'll see! also, there's two condensers right below the 58...
+Jamie Mitchell thanks Jamie but it looks like the instruments are all plugged in ? Are they just playing low?
+Ryan Cohen look again, none of the instruments are plugged in at any point in this performance.
+Jamie Mitchell you're so right!

John Stirratt sounds like put all the different voices in The Band in a microwave and they melted together.
This is way too accurate
Great moment when Jeff forgets the lyrics on "California Stars", laughs and Patrick Sansone helps out by playing a solo on the banjo.
The banjo player saving the day after 49:29 to get them back on track was perfect.
Reading Lets Go So We Can Back. Nice insight to a piece of this pillar of rock and roll
I love when they get all Gram Parsons and early Eagles. That's the good stuff

I sweat tears, but I don't ever cry
Oh, but if I had known, if I had known
If I had known, I would've never believed
