- In Touhou games, you spend most of your time in the bottom half of the screen since it's where the dense bullet hell spreads out and leaves openings. But what if I prohibited myself from moving to the bottom of the screen? Would I be able to beat a Touhou game this way?

Besides the low in-game resolution, the recording also occasionally glitches a bit because these games don't behave nicely with Windows 10, not much I can do sadly.

2:29 Those bullets scare me a lot despite the tiny hitbox, and yes, we all probably have died to them if anyone has played touhou 11 (Yuugi's ''Storm on mt ooe'' spell card)
To clarify, I meant the smaller bullets Kyouko shoots in an arc mostly upward.
@Shyguymask Yeah, the way you put it made it seem like you don't get hit by that bullet type specifically
Unfortunately, there are plenty of difficult patterns that use that bullet
Also what did you expect having to stay up close to the top half of the screen? Of course stuff like that will be way more of a threat

If you didn't know, Kyouko has two safe spots on Normal mode (with Reimu but should works with the others). On her Echo Sign "Mountain Echo" spell, stand in front of her, your feets on her Life Ring. Most of the time, she can't touch you.
On her Echo Sign "Power Resonance", sit slightly above her right shoulder and you're safe.
It's not that much but it save runs and is an easy refill for Transe.
Hopefully, Miko is not immune to bombs on her last spell as it used to be on old Touhou.
Youmu's chargeshot suddenly makes me think of the subweapons from Bullet Heaven [I forgot if this was a thing in BH1 as well as BH2]...
Lance is my favorite shottype in both BH games because of his high damage up-close.
Mine is NoLeg's shooting star ability from BH2 where you could stack stars in front of the boss to quickly erase its Health Bar. These stars are also quite uselful to deal with spread out swarm of enemies

Well even if other official games are impossible there’s always fan games. No I will not shut up until Danmakufu gets the recognition it deserves.
If you like touhou I recommend a youtuber called "yatsuzume" he beat all touhou games to date on lunatic without bombs nor deaths.
Sometimes he goes to the top of the screen cuz it's easier to dodge certain patterns, that's the minority tho
MoF is possible (and easy) thanks to the glitch, otherwise good luck
A good amount definitely is, simply because of the absurd amount of resources those games provide. UFO, MS and -HRtP- might not be.

How do you keep track of not staying in the bottom half though?
Aside from that one mistake, you really followed that rule religiously (I would've made the mistake of going below multiple times)
During all the time I played including when practicing, I used a screen marker to draw a line right where the white line under the "Graze" text is.

Ten desires stage 1 is honestly my least favourite part of it, it feels like a chore
Besides Yoshika I love the rest of the game but I never liked Stage 1 and I don't know why
@@Shyguymask Stage 1 of TD is probably the worst stage 1 in Touhou imo, it drags out a lot, with it being possibly being the longest stage 1 and having the longest stage 1 boss in the series

I totally agree with you saying the game was harder with this challenge being harder than hard, cuz first it's a very restrictive playstyle and I also found out th13 is the easiest touhou on hard I played (th6-18)

If i were to play a touhou game, what should i pick?
Touhou 7 imo. The game is very kind, and in my opinion the easiest game in the series in normal mode (i'm not saying it won't kick your ass though, it's your first time.) The ost is one of the best and the bosses are memorable and fun.

The "hardest" spellcard for this would probably be Icicle Fall. With the blind spot banned, you can't rev up the memes. Then again, assuming Normal, you weren't getting access to the meme blind spot anyway...
A better challenge would probably be no vertical movement at all

I wish you gave an explanation for what all these mechanics are, as someone with no familiarity with the game I found this pretty hard to follow compared to many of your other videos
The Trance (The game's main gimmick) is outright confusing by itself when playing for the first time. I kept wondering how I could clarify on a few game mechanics inside the video, but unfortunately I couldn't figure out a way to do it without feeling like it'd harm the pace of the video.
I will try to give an explanation while keeping It as brief as possible.
When you shoot and kill enemies, Divine spirits come out, Blue ones increase score, Grey ones increase your trance gauge, Green ones give you a bomb piece, and pink ones give you a life piece.
Trance mode activates automatically when you lose a life, but If you have a Full trance gauge, you can activate It manually without losing a life.
Trance mode itself makes your character invincible and your shot gets stronger for a short time.
When you have trance mode activated, Green and pink spirits are worth Double the life/bomb pieces. Basically, this means you get more lifes and bombs.
I think that's it.

Do touhou 8, the game is known to be pretty easy, but some cards can be brutal.
Also touhou 16's extra stage main gimmick is staying at the top of the playable field.
