I've been playing HRTP rather obsessively the past few weeks.This is fantastic. 😂
I played it today. Man was the last boss of Makai difficult even at easy difficulty, it needed tons of attempts to beat Sariel. Nevertheless, I loved the story.
Edit 1: I played the game at all modes and both routes. Crazy how Sariel lunatic took the fewest attempts of all modes 3-5 I can't remember. I couldn't 1cc the game even though I was so close to doing that with hell route normal mode (1 continue used).

Absolutely loved the gags here. Albeit something tells me a certain someone isn't exactly going to stay dead, lol.
btw, while the fairy from the Makai ending doesn't actually wreck the shrine (albeit Reimu does make a wish for the destruction of the Earth, confusing the fairy), it's a lot funnier this way. ❤

@@Ponera-Sama The first game was finished in 1995 where Reimu was 15. In Touhou 9 it was confirmed that the games are taking place in real time, meaning in 2024 Reimu is now 44
@@TheSilly6403 it was also confirmed that the entirety of the PC-98 games took place between 2001 and 2002 and EoSD took place in 2003. That doesn't make a lot of sense.

As somebody who hasn't played Touhou 1 before, I can confirm that is accurate.
I think Highly Responsive to Prayers is a pretty cool gal. Seh defeats enemies with a Yin-Yang Obr and doesnt afraid of anything.

The full quote is: "Genocide is just another game. Doesn't matter it it's humans or Makai residents."
What sends me is how, when hearing this, Shinki replies "Are you making light of Makai?" Basically, she's completely un-phased by the genocide comment and instead gets offended by the notion that Makai would be as easy to genocide as the human realm.

Touhou 1 remains as my favourite Touhou game in music and mechanics, a shame it's not referenced even by the other PC-98 games
I mean if we want to be technical it is somewhat referred to in Touhou 2 because both Reimu and Mima talk to each other as if they’ve met before (which they have in touhou 1)

That was way better than I expected it. Heck, to be honest, I didn't even like Señor Pelo's one that much and I enjoyed this one a lot more. Also appreciate some love being given to Touhou 1 instead of starting from Touhou 6 like always (even though Touhou 1 can go die in a pit of hellfire for all I care).
That moment at the beginning where Reimu flings the Yin Yang Orb and it bounces straight into her face... yeah, that's the Touhou 1 experience...
They also used the original tracks rather than the rearranged versions, which adds to the authenticity of the animation.
