Thanks for the review. I'm looking for a new dac amp as I'm always breaking / loosing them..
Another Good Review 👍
I bought a 180 degree usbc male to female adapter and mounted the q11 to the back of a 100 dollar used lg phone using sticky wall tack to make a poor man's DAP. I love it and use it every day for iems and 300 ohm headphones.
This is the easiest rec of any piece of gear that I've purchased in this hobby. I've got the Shio, the Jcally AP90, Shanling UP5, 7hz 71, Audirect Atom3 and this is in a completely different league. Sure it's got the same DAC stage as the Shio but somehow this plays back my library in a way that the Shio just....can't. Everything from jump-up DnB to Freddie King to Travis Tritt to Lettuce to Turnpike Troubadours to Eelke Kleijn sounds right to my ears. Tone, timbre, power it's got it all. Seems like it's got a noise floor that's ridiculously low, too. Powers my Yume II, Penon Fan and Olina SE with ease, the Penon Serial gets here likely tomorrow so we'll see about that. As a sidebar, I'm falling back in love with the Olina SE after changing eartips to the large Azla SednaEarfit Xelastic. The SE is damn good, but I had a weird fitment issue which would put a strange pressure on my left ear that the Azla's seem to correct. Back to the Q11, on my Pioneer/Kicker system in the truck it sounds absolutely crispy clean. Yeah, like I said at the beginning, easiest rec of all my gear, even more so considering that I was able to pick it up for $100CAD shipped via Fiio's AliExpress store.
wow nice to hear that but I have a simple question does fiio Q11 has option to take power directly from the usb
@@starnutron6147 by take power from the USB do you mean will it charge if you plug it into your phone? Short answer, probably, if you do NOT use the included USB C-C cable. When I plug it into my Galaxy A73 5G without using the FiiO cable it will occasionally show up as a high-power USB accessory and will glitch out a bit and not charge. With the FiiO supplied cable it will read as a dac no problem but it won't charge - it is designed that way. Also, if you're going to use the FiiO Control app to make any changes to the Q11's settings, make sure it's charged first and if you're running Android 13, email FiiO support for an updated APK. Mine got stuck in a loop where the app wouldn't successfully connect to the Q11 even though it registered as connected.
@@MrPhenix21 I mean I want to use it as a main pc dac. I dont need its battery. I just want to know does it runs on usb power from pc and play songs from that same usb (as I dont want to use aux cable).
@@starnutron6147 it's only got one input, the USB C. Plug it into your computer, turn it on, and you're good to go. Mine is plugged into my office workstation at the moment & it was plug & play, no drivers required. The power supplied by your pc through whatever USB A-C cable you use will be enough to power the Q11 and keep the battery charged.
@@MrPhenix21 Thank you so much you have cleared my doubt.
Great review! Find it hard to justify the Fiio Q11 over the dongle alternatives due to the form factor. Personally I would find it difficult to keep my phone and the Q11 in my pocket over something like the Shio
True, but it goes amazingly well with a MinisForum PC, or my laptop.
@@JeradBenge Would it make a difference switching from KA1 to Q11? (I have a KA1 paired with HD660S).
@@ahmedp8009 I don't have a KA1 to compare to directly anymore, but I do have the KA2, and yes, it makes a noticeable difference in soundstage, imaging, and instrument separation. Whether that difference justifies the price and form factor is up to you. I like it as a desktop unit, where it is replacing my old FiiO K5 Pro while taking up less than half of the space, and no extra cables.
@@JeradBenge Ah I see, I might go for it, Q11 at home and the KA1 when I'm elsewhere.
The thing about Fiio, they have so many DACs it can get confusing, wish they had a comparison table of all their models.
We need a comparison dc04pro to fiio k5 sound wise. I always think fiio is more on the neutral side, but the app is better. I had dc03pro and I sent back only because it was arriving the dc04pro with balanced output and more power.the sound of the dc3pro was exciting, so I expect to be also the dc04's too snr 131 and dynamic range 128 are better than fiio's.
Though fiio as a very useful spdif output but I'm worried it could be a little lean sounding.
Hi, between this an hip dac2 for a hd 560s what Is the best option. Saludos desde México
which is best for instrumental separation, open balanced sound (xduos basic, fiio k3, fiio q11,fiio k5,zen air dac) reply me bro🤔🤔🤔🤔
will this be suitable for 250 ohm headphones ? Love your vids .
I have Fiio KA1 paired with HD660S.
Ist worth upgrading to Q11?
Hello.. If i just use the 3.5mm port for connecting koss kph40 eith my smartphone, will it be similar with DC03pro?
I'm having a hard time trying deciding if it's worth buying something like the Q11. I own a HRT microstreamer which i am happy with but uses old usb connection so it's not as usefull as a c type connection. My question is, are you familiar with the sound of the HRT and is the sound comparible with a newer dac like the q11? Sound is the most important thing, I don't care the slightest in features. I am waiting for my Supermix 4 and am eager to use it with my phone through a dac. Should I use the HRT for my phone and buy a desk top dac for home? There are many comparisons with new dacs but nothing to tell if my old dac still stands up to todays chip sets. Love your reviews and think you talk about the things I personnaly need to know.
So which one do you suggest me to buy? Q11 or KA5?
I’ve just hooked the Q11 to my SAMSUNG S20 With UAPP PRO & My Sound Rhyme SR-05 I’ve been into audio for 50 years I’ve got really good ears my father was a Audiologist and Sound engineer and the sound of this rig is the best I have ever heard it’s FANTASTIC!!
Wow .....need to get me a SR05
I have a simple question does fiio Q11 has option to take power directly from the usb
@@starnutron6147yes it has. USB to usbC cable included and you can charge from notebook. The usbC tô usbC cable they provide don't take your battery tô charge the dac, but another cable can drain your phone's battery.
I would very much like to know your opinion on the ibasso DC04 Pro, have or will You be reviewing it... I'm torn between this and the Q11. I have been using the Style M15, attached to Xiaomi Redmi note 11 pro,(Poweramp player Android), with blon 03 and the sound pisses all over my A&k SR-25 using the blon 03.
Thanks for what You do and share. Kind regards Sir.
To be honest I haven't heard the DC04, but I can tell you this much.
Q11 is a fantastic unit....clean detailed sound and plenty power....it has Alot of the M15 in its way of playing music.
Also M15 is a TOTL unit, highly recommend in all aspects...why would you want the DC or Q11 for that matter.... just curious!
This or ibasso dc03 pro / dc04 pro?
Great video! Would this be a great buy for my Hifiman Edition XS? I currently have a topping dx3 pro+ for my desktop setup, I'm looking for a portable dac/amp to drive them on the go. Can you suggest something else at around the same price point or these would work well already? Thanks
iirc edition xs prertty good, dont think fiio works though try shanling
The q11 even powers even my dt880 600 ohm damn
Wish it was duo dac though.Thanks.
It uses single dac chip if i'm not mistaken tony. I was underwhelmed by hip dac2 and got rid of it. this q11 looks like a decent product but getting rid of line in is also disappointing.
Is that not what the usbc is for?
@@googleitdepartment1371 what do you mean?
i might sound stupid but how the hell do i charge this i cant even tell if its charging with any of the cables it came with. the light on the back turns red and turns off after 5 seconds.
I was thinking of pairing this with a note 9 instead of buying a dap ?
Hello, how are you? I have bought the fiio q11 but its sound signature highlights the treble so much that they hurt my ears, do you know any way to change that signature or some dac amp with neutral signature? If I had known that they had a sound signature, i wouldn't have bought them, thank you
The FIIO is a little clinical I do agree but there are benefits to be had.
What earphones do you have?
You could use an impedance adaptor ...something low value....25ohm.
VE makes some good ones.
I use it already in Germany. Sounds sensational for the price! The only minor problem I have is that it is always charging when connectet to my Samsung S20 Ultra. It is pausing when full (blue light), but turns to purple charging light after some time. Why the big battery when it always charges? hmm?
Will ask the factory about this
It has its own data cable without charging lines.
Can I run a pair of HD600 with this device?
Does the PR1 benefit from the more power of Q11 as compared to the Shio?
I would say yes but only if you like listening to music loud .
Under Normal listening conditions is the same!
For someone who wants analog organic sound would this be alright or better off with colorfly m1p? I have to make a decision. I would be using pr2 with it, and em6l.. Thanks..
They both are excellent, but I think I would probably go M1P as it might be the better one to give you the sound you prefer
@@akros9333 OK, thanks for your response, I ordered it just now...
Thanks Tony. Pity you can't power it and listen at the same time. Missing a separate power usbc and when you run the battery down, you have to stop your music whilst you charge. Significant drawback for me..
Just use any standard USB-C cable to power it while listening. The pin out is different on the cables provided by FiiO so that it saves your phones battery.
@@JeradBengeGood to know. Thanks a lot.
@@JeradBenge I may sound dumb right now, lol, but pls do explain
@@conroyscott2206 If you're using the Q11 with an outlet powered device you can just use a standard USB-C cable to provide both signal and power to the amp so that you don't have to stop listening to charge the battery in the amp. If you're using the Q11 with a phone, tablet, or laptop on the go you can use the cables provided by FiiO, and it will not take power from your devices battery, using its internal 2300mAh battery instead.
@@JeradBenge Thanks, but I'd still side with Tony and consider the lack of a seperate charging port a drawback. And on top of that, the USB standard is now so f-ed up with having to figure out if your hardware and software AND cable all support a particular protocol. Want me to figure out 1 more same looking cable? No, Thank you. While this unit does have a beefy battery, I would actually have like the most, is full isolation of the charging circuit to the battery and from battery to the audio circuit for a clean signal.
I’m torn between Q11, KA5 and Ibasso DC04 Pro. I do like dongle/portable DACs with built-in batteries as I have a good collection of planars and they benefit a great deal from good power to drive them. But the KA5 comes with a better chip and Ibasso appears to be a more rounded package albeit the most expensive of the three.
Sir, please can you tell me if the ka5 will run with Poweramp android player? Thank You in advance ❤️
Better chip doesn’t mean better sound :)
Me too dc04 pro or fiio ka5 soundwise?
In the end I went for the Q11 as I have tested them all at CanJam and find the Q11 has the best performance/price ratio. KA5 sounds best but I think it has a bug.
@@colddish what bug you mean?
Which one is better choice between fiio q3, q11 and ka13 at the same price?
I'm having the same question actually.
Nicely Done.
Maybe I missed it in the review.
You were using a longer cable than the included cable ( type c-type c ) .
It's been mentioned that may cause the Q11 to drain your phone battery.
Yeah I have this problem with my Fiio Q11. If using another usbC tô usbC cable it's drain all your phone's battery
Does Q11 still draw power if connected to a mobile phone?
I have it and I can tell you it does not as long as you use the original cables that come with the DAC. Cheers
which one is more recommended? This, or xduoo xd 05 basic?
I have the 05 Basic...it's good...plenty power ...clean sound....but the FIIO is just cleaner...as detailed without sounding on the edge at times, guess its the implementation of the CS chip that is responsible for the warmer sound!
@@akros9333 thank you. Is there any phone signal noise issues when xd05 basic is paired with phone?
@@SLEEPZERO_Speciall very faint noise....but it depends on the phone.
With Samsung and OnePlus and LG is basically nothing.....with Xiaomi or Realme I can hear it a little more.....bit overall the interference is very very low.
@@akros9333 ok thank you so much, Im using samsung so it's good then
@@akros9333 have you ever tried moondrop dawn pro? How is that compared to xduoo xd 05 basic?
Xduoo 05 basic or this one ?
This one.....the price especially makes it a no brainer.
Also it can do Balanced output.
I like Fiio but my problem with them is the stupid gamery design, it look like cheap ssd to me, to this day i still wonder why their design department is so bad, like all their current dap look like android games phone with stupid colorful led than actual dap.
100% agree!! When I think of delivering music to my ears I always think..."what does it look like though!?" 🤦🏻♂️
Fiio sounds clinical, atleast their dacs. This much treble forwarded sound is not desirable at all.
Can you please do an overall comparison with the newly launched fiio ka13. They said it's a monster dongle that performs as good as the q11 and m15
I’m looking for a new dongle or something like this but I need suggestions I like a bit of warmth in my music. Any suggestions? I have the hidiz s9 And s3 pro and btr5 I need an upgrade
@Avonmoremilk hey yea I saw a review for that one today and it seems ok just want to see if more reviews come up
@avonmoremilk1958I got fc4, shio and space, and unfortunately the space is the least favour. The space is similar to fc4 which is in a clean and cold signature but the clarity wise the fc4 is much better than space. Shio is clean and a little warmer tan fc4 and space and the bass is excellent in shio. Overall I LOVE shio the most
What about the all new Hiby FC6?
I recently bought the cayin ru6 and am really hapy with it. If you want a cheaper, ultra compact solution, the Venture Electronics abigail pro is excellent.
@@Soundoverload do you have it I was looking into it but the price is getting up there and haven’t seen many reviews yet but is on my watch list
