I forgot to mention that G5 offers a very good Bluetooth connection. LDAC codec is supported among others. So there's that going for it too.
Hello king! Gustard A26 is out there... 😊I am waiting for your review and comparison with R26!
Hola from Spain. Very Good review. Do you think G5 is enough to drive hifiman edition xs?. Thanks
Is it worth getting the G5 for the more linear sound to compliment my Mojo 2 that's balanced?
May I know which is sonically better between Hiby R5ii and Topping G5? I have a sennheiser hd 598 and a Sennheiser hd 650. I know both are different categories but both still have dac-amp inside them and are around the same price.
Please give a short comparison with Cayin RU6 (R2R dongle), in few words... And this review was great, as always! Thank You!
I love my G5. Has replaced my Mojo1 which has kept me very happy for years. I can now take GL2000's into the hills...awesome. Topping for President
Hey, I’m thinking of buying the G5, especially because my Mojo 1 battery died and even after disconnecting its battery and using it directly from a power bank for a year, the unit seems to have conked out. So my main question is two-pronged; 1: Sound comparisons with the Mojo, and 2: Daily Usage with regard to battery life, charging etc mainly through usb dac connection. Thanks in advance!
Hoping to see you review the new TOPPING E70 VELVET AK4499EX Desktop DAC or the Gustard A26.
Your reference would be valuable for these forefront chip DACs! 👍🏼
Both of those reviews should happen...
Toppings NFCA Amplification architecture is that next step above the THX amplification that took the hobby by storm 5 to 6 years ago. It is just that little bit cleaner and more punchy with all the things people loved about THX type sound with it's ultra low numbers but even better. It's the same architecture they used for the A90 Series that almost everyone agrees is now an industry leading series of Amps. I own and use the A30 Pro, (same NFCA architecture inside), fed by an SMSL SU9n daily and love it when I want the clean very well defined neutral sound with punch and weight to the notes. So I'd imagine this unit sounds very similar to my A30 Pro just with a little less power overall. I bought both the A30 and the SU9n based partially on your recommendations and I have to say I've been extremely happy with those purchases, so thank you...
there is background noise .when the phone is very close to the topping g5. there is no data on the battery level .The red color is discharged. the green light is fully charged.
Awesome review. Thank you. Greetings from Amsterdam.
👋 HI SRBOLJUB,YOU CONTINUE TO SHOW THAT THIS IS THE BEST TIME TO BE AN AUDIOPHILE 👍😎💚💚💚😊
they still priced the same though, just look better
3:43 Thank you man. I almost bought it thinking it's 4.4 balanced 🤯
really like the way u do ur reviews and comparison. im a newbie and looking a dac amp combo to buy under $400.. neutral sounding preeferavly
I contacted Topping about the separation of the Amp/DAC capability- I dont see a use case for digital listening either, as the DAC would outperform any smartphone, but the unit is usable as an amplifier with a record player (can be connected to the phono preamp via RCA-Aux in). This feature is mentioned nowhere on their site, but I believe that to be the best use case for just using it as an amplifier :)
The G5 delivers seemingly unlimited power on demand. All my planar iems love it to bits. The Bluetooth performs exceptionally well too, too bad you didn’t talk about it.
I also find it having the most airiness comparing to Jcally AP90 and Cayin RU6.
Also, it sounds best at mid gain which, IMHO, sound livelier than what you described so I suspect you were testing it with gain set to the lowest.
I liked the mid gain the most too. Its noticeably more powerful and more deteiled than RU6.
nice review. i got a G5 since i wanted to drive my Aeon X away from my desk and it works well. but it also drives IEMs great (Kato, Variations)... but most wonderful of all is when I got a focal clear... the G5 drives it really really well.
hey any experience with usb dongle dacs? I have kato and blessings dusk. I use dusk with hidizs s9 pro and want another one for kato which i use with apple lightning dongle
Hope do you find out works with the aeon x? I have been looking at this for that headphone but didn’t see too many people talking about it
Still loving my Hidizs 80 👍
Having watched this video I went to your aune Bu2 review. I have just upgraded my main sound system(with your help ).In fact my rme fs arrives soon.
I am thinking of a small DAC to connect my laptop to the small powered bose speakers I use as my laptop speakers . to my taste they are nice but rich, warm sounding. I have not been able to use a USB out which I know will help ither way , but given the warmth of my bose I think the aune bu2 might be a better choice . ??
Thanks again for both excellent reviews. Yours a subscriber
Thanks for this review! What comes to mind when thinking of G5 Tonality/Soundquality but with wider stage...is there a good portable alternative maybe? How much more do i have to spend for bigger stage? Fiio Q7 Maybe?
Thanks for the nice review 👍
While watching i was thinking this could be an ideal device for me if it only had bluetooth.
As I checked it out on Amazon, i saw that it actually has bluetooth, which would be worth mentioning as it could be useful for certain people who need to leave the phone on the table (for UA-cam for example) but be able to move around.
BT also works well. connects through LDAC to my Samsung A33 phone.. but just does APTX on my OnePlus 8 Pro.
It not only has Bluetooth, there is hardly any impact on sound quality except that the soundstage is a little narrower. The dac has the ability to make all my iems sound better. It’s now my favourite ‘dongle’.
@@colddish That sounds really appealing. LDAC seems to be a great protocol. On my SMSL M500 MK2 there's also very little difference between LDAC bluetooth and the USB connection. The difference has gotten slightly bigger tough since I got a better USB cable that's made for audio.
@@ant1kryst That's strange. The OnePlus phones normally do LDAC very well, at least my 9 pro does but I think even my old OP 5 already has LDAC
Thanks
7:00 well then you should definitely check the ovidius B1 out 🙂. Even from my phone (using PD 2.0 usb socket) bass are punchier and more energetic on my sundara than from my desktop xduoo TA 10 (with the supra 2.0 USB cable). That is much to say cause xduoo is a bass control monster. Ovidius also has that mojo/like sound, ovidius being more transparent and mojo being thicker sounding. Ovidius trades blows even with my shanling m8.
I have one, more power than a dongle dac, good to drive headphones whilst portable. I use it if sitting outside with my headphones enjoying music. Also take it to the office with my closed back DCA Aeon x
how long does the battery last you with the aeon X on moderately loud volumes. im assuming its on high gain? love it with my aeon x but just used it a bit and was not able to test out the battery life.
@@ant1kryst I haven't done a long enough session to work it out yet... I should set it up from fully charged and do a test. I will update it and when done. Yes I use High gain for headphones.
Chord Mojo 2 maybe?
Can i use this as a multi purpose device, portable headphone amp but also as an upgrade to the dac in my hegel h95 and set up as a streamer in ldac? Is the dac section good enough?
Srboljub - another great review but my thinking is if you're going to carry around that amount of weight why not just get a DAP like Hiby R5? for $450.If you're going into the office and just hooking up your phone I'd prefer a good smaller lightweight Bluetooth dac amp or something that will stay in office like the SMSL M500.I am not somebody who uses portables (yet) and I worry about the damage to my phones usb port or the dongle dac so just using a DAP with streaming as an all in one to an amp or powered speakers seems more an more like the smartest most universal solution even if it might not sound quite as good.Agree or not?
Power.
If you hook the G5 up to a windows 10 pc, and you have dolby atmos(dolby access) installed on the windows 10 pc or laptop, can you play dolbyatmosed music through the headphone output and equalize the music with the Dolby Atmos Addon?
Will it also do the same on the preamp out to Elac speakers powered by an Aiyima A08 Pro.
Can some one give someone give me suggestion on what amp/Dac should i take for my HD650? I just planned to get them. but i wanted to try good dacs and amps for this. i Own Acer prefdator helios 300(RTX 2060) and iphone 14 pro max. I was thinking of TOPPING - DX3 PRO+ or MAGNI/MODI combo?
Get the G5... I'm running 6xx's on it and it's a perfect match. Sounds way better than my modi3+/magni + stack which was surprising.
Does really Topping G5 sounds better thatn Mojo 2 really? Thanks
No, Mojo 2 is better.
iFi Gold Bar?
To me it's a much better product (engineering and economical wise) that is of small footprint and cheaper but can achieve similar functionality. What's the big deal of a product getting a slightly better sound quality but cost $$$ more with 100 lbs weight?
