Everyone says you can roll the opamps but you are the only one that has actually done it and THANK you, now I know the Sparkos fit. I will probably wait until 11.11 in 2024 to buy, when all the cards are out and I have saved up.

Thanks for the review. This has definitely caught my eye, although i wish they let you choose which dac module you get out of the box in which case I'd definitely choose akm. Fingers crossed there are some good deals on it during 11.11 🤞

Worth noting - The Roon Arc and HiBy Music Apps, have a PEQ (Parametric Equalizer) for example...
So you can tune the frequency response to whatever you like - Neutral et cetera...

I've got an ifi xdsd gryphon on my very cramped desk at home and a schiit magni/modi stack at work. I'm thinking about this as a replacement for one of them but I'm not sure which yet. Excellent review

Excellent review, very well addressed the topics that interest us audio fans. A very good recommendation for the Sparcos change. I'm just thinking about buying the XD05 PRO and maybe the AKM module. It would be super interesting if you could tell us what type of sound signature the optional DAC modules, AKM, ROHM, give.

Glad it was helpful, I really enjoy the musical but resolving sound if the stock ESS dac and because I have warmer AKM dacs won't be purchasing the ROHM or AKM but when or if a R2R becomes available I will look at buying that and sharing my thoughts 😀
I wanted to buy it but held back. They could give us the option of choosing between different DACs when we buy. But I don't want to buy a product, then buy an add-on that costs more than 120 dollars and throw away the one I'm not interested in, which costs about the same. If you want to buy the OP-Amp of your choice, that increases the cost. It costs money and it's not good for the environment either.
I think you're missing the point of the XD05 Pro, It sounds excellent out of the box no need to change anything to quite enjoy it.
Having the ability to change the opamps and dac were the selling points as well for those willing and wanted to fine tune thier purchase and tweak it tgier own preferred sound signature.

2. As You compare SPARKOS to Burson V5i-d?
3.What power supply do you use for xD05 PRO?
Not interested in the AK or ROHM DACs , R2R for sure or CL , I didn't try the Burson V5iD they stopped responding to my inquiry after sending me the V6VIVID and I said it only made a small tweek in my J2 DAC

2590 not going to fit in the XD05 you animal ! The 3602 barely do , but I have the 2590 incoming for the J2 you were right Sparkos over Burson I hear a bigger difference Mike 😎 Thanks Sir
@@tonedeafmonk Killer man. With the J2, I can A/B test that opamp fairly easily (swapping between the balanced and RCA with one button)

Not the V6 series too big , I did a a/b comparison with the V6Vivid and the SS3602 and the Sparkos made much more of a difference to my ears
@@tonedeafmonk what if you left the unit cracked open and propped it.. could they fit? I'm not keen on model numbers these are like the ones they call liquid or whatever in their newer range of dac's... I dont care for portability or even putting the bottom case back on if larger op amps would technically fit.
@@ufopulse they won't fit only Burson that would be the V5iD also the case has a switch on bottom knows when case is open. Lastly the Sparkos SS3602 sounds better than the V6VIVID
How does it compare to the desktop stack when using EXT mode? Apparently sound improves when using a 12V 2/3 Amp power supply. With the Sparkos and power supply it may be on par with the desktop set up you have 😁👍

Great review! I've been using my XD05 Pro for a week or so now, and I really like the sound with the stock op-amps. I was curious about the Sparkos op-amps though, and they just arrived yesterday. I tried installing them, but the device is unfortunately flashing a "PROTECT" message and not working when I turn it on. Did you experience anything like this with the Sparkos op-amps?
Yes it's a XDUOO issue mine works fine for week then protect there is something up with the AMP that hopefully gets resolved with a firmware update
@@tonedeafmonk Thanks for the response! Good to know that the problem probably isn't in the op-amps and that I'm not the only one with such problem. Hope they can get it resolved cause your description of the sound with the Sparkos op-amps really sounds intriguing!
@@antonristo1096 Had some luck getting mine working again, problem seemed to be the pins touching the capacitors. After doing a quick clip of the 4 outer legs so they sat flush with the opamp it's now working perfectly. Would also make sure you've got the opamps orientated properly as having them facing the wrong way can also cause them not to work.
@@cakeisalie360 Thanks for letting me know! I was actually supposed to add a comment here but forgot, that I also managed to get the op-amps working after switching up one op-amp riser to another. Nice to know that it isn't a software issue!
Good review. How many risers did you need to install the Sparcos 3602 chips and where would you say they're obtained cheaply. I ask because you have already said that one needs two to a poster below although the image you show in the video has two risers per OP module.
Needs only one per side 2 in total

Yes buy the 2 risers it makes it a easy install
9:14 if i understand this correctly, you can just bypass the xd05 pro's battery and directly supply power from the wall. If so, can I ask what power supply cable you use to achieve this? From what I understand, they don't include that cable. I saw another reviewer, where they used a 12 volt ifi ipower x with a Yeworth DC to USB adapter to insert it into the USB jack. They supplied the link to the adapter, but according to one review of the product, the adapter is only rated for 5 volt, instead of 12. so I don't understand what cable is compatible here.
I tried the iFi power adapter it works well and I use a generic 12v power supply 6A from Amazon. I can't hear a difference my advice is as long as it powers the XD05 then your good to go.
I guess there are others who say they can hear a difference so 🤷
@tonedeafmonk ah thanks, I tried using my 5 volt phone charger, and it seems to work. I hear an improvement in smoothness, richness, separation, soundstage.
24:20 when connecting dap with xd05, do you mean connecting using e.g. a 3.5---3.5 or 4.4---4.4 cable? Then we omit the DAC in xd05, as I understand it.

That is correct the Sparkos SS3602 barely fits in there takes a bit of patience.
Worlds 1st dac chips rollables system.. Hmm when akm modules comes, trust me it'll be the best.. But i'd preferred tubes rollin then circiutories rollin.. Even KORG makes 6j1 towards n30le frm cayin.. Bigger then Q7 Must be a gd chunky otherwise it gonna be big jokes towards audiophiles s...
U touch bout colourations.. Sony the sounds signatures that has been around ever since.. That's an example of goods colourations.. worldwide exceptanced..yet so popular like McD.. yeah i liked those kinda colourations not an individual taste for sure.. U touch bout help each other.. With the 3602s and one riser each, the board wouldn't snap flush because the top of the opamps hits the bottom of the compartment. The screws couldn't lock the board as it was before.
Wondering how did you solve this?
Mine works takes a bit of patience but my fat fingers have done it a number of times ?

In my case there's just not enough space in there (height wise) for the 3602s with riser. And yeah would love to see a video this.
what is your dac recommendation for iems only ?
DAC no amp easy I have 2 Geshelli Labs JNOG J2 AKM the 4493 is better than the newer 4499

Yes that's what's in mine.
The Sparkos SS3602 seems to have its own buit in spcaer. Is that enough?
