I love these videos Jay there is not enough times you can stress how important to check your most important items to purchase before you even go fishing again and again. Do it till you turn blue in the face and it saves someone’s lives! Thank you Jay tight lines take care brother and God bless!

Great starter safety video. One thing I have is a USCG Orange Property Tag on the inside of my kayak. It has my name and number along with an emergency contact just in case they find my yak and no body.

Thanks Trever! That’s a great idea. I’m going to take your lead on that one and do the same.

I think the most overlooked piece of safety equipment is a semi dry suit when water is in the 50’s or below. Many people stop kayaking late fall but when spring air temps rise, many are unaware that water temps in the 40’s or 50s can be extremely dangerous if one were to fall in. If you watch a couple of videos on the subject, it can be quite sobering 😬

I have everything except for the Marine radio. I fish big waters, maybe I should get one.

I've had to cut myself free from line in the river. I got tangled in someone's braid in the river and was getting into trouble. A safety knife is essential

A few items to at least consider
A garmin inreach, spot, 406 plb this will allow you to get an emergency signal out regardless of cell phone signal
Flares, a signal mirror, and a dedicated strobe especially if you are going quite a ways.
When it comes to medical a quality tourniquet is one of those items you should have nearby and dont want to improvise.
I'm fairly new to all this but have been active with helicopter based sar for nearly 20 years and ground based for around 10.

Great call! Should’ve included the tourniquet. I got one in each vehicle and at home.

Great advice and video as always Jay!!!
Quick question about the NRS Co-Pilot, I see more bad reviews about that it can't cut paracord and it can only cut fishing line....
Do you have one and how does it cut when you need it to cut?
I was also looking at the Gear Aid, Buri Utility Knife, Drop Pt
    TIA

Appreciate you bro! It should cut just fine. The co pilot blade is quite short though. I might do the pilot next time.
