Intelligent, thoughtful soldier here. Good to keep in mind that choices for the population are very, very few.
Obviously signing a contract is an introductory formality with zero provisions from it followed at all.
Those contracts are followed as well as when this man, and his Unit was transferred from Kherson to Kursk.
The stories of Russian widows receiving no money after the deaths of their husbands or family members are rampant.
Sad state of affairs for any people to live. In addition, the rights to self determination loom large over the entire Russian nation, and others where the people are of minimal value.
This will all change when the people change it. How, and when something like that could happen has no answer.
There is seemingly abundant reasons for it to happen, however it is always up to the people to step forward to change it.
Ironically in the case of Russia, they thought they had many, many years ago.
We all know that real peace here can be achieved when Russian Forces vacate Ukrainian lands. That is the starting point, as it should be.

That guy blurred out behind him has an external fixation device on his arm, probably a broken humerus from a bullet, showing that he is receiving advanced medical care from the Ukrainian Medical Service. Armies who supposedly torture POWs don’t do that kind of medical care. That’s the level of care you’d get in any modern hospital in the US.
