The Mars Volta was an American rock band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2001. The band's final lineup consisted of Omar Rodríguez-López (guitar, producer, direction), Cedric Bixler-Zavala (vocals, lyrics), Juan Alderete (bass), Marcel Rodríguez-López (keyboards, percussion) and Deantoni Parks (drums). The band formed following the break-up of Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala's previous band, At the Drive-In. They are known for their energetic live shows and their concept albums.
In 2009, the band won a Grammy Award in the "Best Hard Rock Performance" category for the song "Wax Simulacra."[1] In 2008, they were named "Best Prog-Rock Band" by Rolling Stone magazine.[2]
In September 2012, it was announced that The Mars Volta had entered a hiatus, with Rodríguez-López and Parks forming a new project, Bosnian Rainbows.[3] Four months later, the band announced their breakup.[4] Bixler-Zavala and Alderete subsequently formed a new band, Zavalaz. Rodríguez-López and Bixler-Zavala eventually reunited in 2014 for a new project, Antemasque.

I was there. 14 at the time. So the story was KRoq crammed in motley crue which pushed mars Volta back on the second stage and put their 50 min set down to a 25 min set. So being pissed Cedric went on a type writer, typed the lyrics to “the widow” and threw them in the crowd. And I think I remember Omar saying something about Motley Crue in a sarcastic way. Anyway my friends and I were yelling “screw the crue” the whole entire festival 😂

Are you sure he typed the lyrics to the Widow? I was standing right next to the dude that ended up grabbing that page. Shit was wild, people were yelling "Volta, Volta" during Bloc Party's set and these two girls got mad. They started yelling, "Fuck Volta" and this same dude punched one of the girls. I don't know how he didn't get kicked out, but that same dude is the one that ended up with the paper Cedric typed on. I was like 15/16 at the time too, sold candy under the table at school to buy my ticket lmao

@@ganonbarfYTthat is so cool 😂 all of that. In response maybe I imagined this memory but I thought he something on the lines of “here’s the song you guys wanted” and then tossed it into the crowd. I remember someone later has everyone disbanded saying “oh it was the widow lyrics” I was 14 and drinking so the memory is cloudy and I could be wrong
