The "Meddler" is actually my favorite Marvel superhero. And yes, he is a hero precisely because he meddles! I have a complete run of What If to this day, even though Uatu isn't in the newest (not very good) issues that are just a miniseries. But yeah, so many awesome characters debuted in Fantastic Four. I haven't read all those early issues but I have a handful of them, including The Watcher's first appearance.
Stan and Jack did the first 102 regular issues *and six Annuals* of The FF. Each of the Fantastic Four Annuals by Stan and Jack contained some historic development for the Marvel Universe; they’re all indispensable stories. Crystal possesses elemental powers. She can mentally control earth, wind, and water, and she can start and control fires. She is practically a one-girl Fantastic Four. A few years ago I gave myself the treat of reading the entire 102 issues (and the next two issues, which finished the story of “The Strength of the Sub-Mariner!”) and six Annuals, and it is indeed one of the most fun things to do in reading comics. You actually see greatness unfolding before your eyes.
Yes! It was an incredible run in comic books history and a must read for any Marvel Comics fan. I was remiss to not include the Annuals which has some very important stories - from Dr. Doom's origin to Franklin's birth and the introduction of Annihilus.
As a kid issue 19 was my first and I collected as many as i could until issue 49 when my father (ahem) made me get rid of my comics. Two years past and a high school catches me up and my father sighs and pretends his son isn't a moron. My feeling is after the Dr. Doom four parter around issue 82 it seemed to tread water after that. John Byrne was a return to greatness so glad you started with that era.
I wonder if after the Dr. Doom 4 part story Jack Kirby started to feel that he had enough with Marvel. Those 'gangster' themed issues after were definitely all Jack! I also enjoyed the single issue that introduced Agatha Harkness which I thought was a lot of fun.
I found Sgt. Fury a bit hokey compared to DC's Sgt. Rock, or other DC War titles. I would like to see a throwback espionage Nick Fury TV series. I didn't hate Secret Invasion, it just could have been a lot better. Thanks for watching!
Did you read Dr. Doom's origin story in FF Annual #2?.... Its very good! By contrast, Doom's 1st app in FF5 is such a dumb story. This shows the difference in Lee's writing between when he has time to think and when he's in a rush. Another sign that FF5 was rushed is that Kirby's Doom looks the same as his villain in Tales of Suspense #31 which came out the same month. Im not sure which was drawn first.
Yes! I forgot to mention the annuals, and they had some very significant stories, like Doom's origin and the wedding issues in Annual 3. At least Doom didn't 'die' in Annual #2. Early FF issues are certainly clunky, but they do have a certain charm to them.

3.40 The Watcher / meddler. Oh you mean Dr. Who....[ dodges brick...]
It kinda hurts...my childhood is "Retro"...

Don't forget the 6 annuals. I call them "The Kirby108"!
Indeed! Although Doom doesn't quite meet his 'doom' in Annual #2, it's still a great story nonetheless! Thanks for watching!
I have only a handful of Kirby108 originals so my collection relies on a combo of Masterworks and Essential volumes!
I enjoy it 💯👍
Thanks for watching! I hope you get to read and enjoy some of the issues!
FF and Howling commando series were favs...movie representations of Nick Fury kinda left me..meh.

@@raph-retro-comics Kinda miss the New York attirude tho. Decent video series though.
Great episode! Probably my favorite thus far...but where's the Blackhawk reference?
Curses! I knew I missed something!
