    Yo! It's Made By Mitch time!!! Great build man! My favorite finish for hardwoods is Arm-R-Seal from General Finishes. If I'm doing stain, I like their lineup of gel stains. I'm finishing up that farm table from IG and I'm going to spray it with Enduro Clear Poly, also from GF.

      Thanks man! I've never used anything from General Finishes. I'm totally checking them out now though. Thanks.

    The dowel thing was cool, especially that you made your own jig but I’ve made workbenches like this and the glue alone would’ve been more than enough unless you’re really pounding on it. Also when you did your dowels and ended up not quite even on the ends, you can make what’s called a storyboard which is just a piece of cheap scrap wood and you make your marks on there and then you clamp that to your Mainwood where you’re going to drill the holes that way the holes come out the same on every piece of wood. With this design it would be really easy to make some slide out drawers underneath too. Your cross brace could’ve also gone all the way to the back so it didn’t hit your knees, and could’ve also been used to put a screw into a stud on your wall so the desk wouldn’t move it all and was more like a built-in.

    • @MadebyMitch
      @MadebyMitch  4 роки тому +3

      Thanks Shane! I appreciate the feedback and input. The storybowrd sounds like a more accurate idea. I also like the idea of the cross brace being more towards the back. Again thanks for the feedback!

    Wonderfully simple and good looking project. If you're a finisher, a router around the top will make nice rounded edges too!
    I also like to use Tung oil as a finisher as it doesn't change the color of the wood and brings out the wood's character.

    this is what i need to make. but i do not have the thing to make pocket holes. and do not have a table saw, or a circular saw, i just have a drill, and some hand saws, 4 kinds. i mostly use the key hole saw. i had a jigsaw once but the motor burned up so because i do not have the thing to make pocket holes. i thinking of use small but thick L brakes but this video made me see that the lags need 2 boards width not just the top. also i thinking of adding a back panel to it to help with the support besides the cross bean but i am also considering using pipes for legs but i like this one with wide wood lags but maybe cost more for the wood CA, is expensive. 2 in. x 12 in. x 8 ft. Instead of making the boards longer you could always just measure the lines on each board simultaneously. So they match up. Would save time and wood

    • @ezekieo32
      @ezekieo32 4 роки тому

      building with longer boards on wood-glue/dowel table-tops, eliminates errors completely; I saw so many woodworkers messing up in quite a few videos and many veterans making it a "must" to add cutting to the final size of the top as a step. There no point in saving time, if we messed up our woodcraft. It's art and art takes time to be perfected. ^^
