My winner, and it was easy for me, was Coolio and L.V. State of Mind had no way to take me on the melodic trip I really liked in the first song. For me to run through it more than twice amazes me! State of Mind......one and done!

I have to agree, Gangsta’s Paradise is an absolute rare gem. It has a message that is on point. There are a few gems in Run DMC’s catalog as well…some of their material has some good humor, such as My Adidas. State of Mine’s version is an interesting take on the song. Musically, I like it! The vocals don’t match the original, but admirable. I gotta stick with the original though, it’s just too much of a classic. But a worthy cover for sure. 👍🤘

I hate hip hop, I love metal. But this as a metal version is not my cup of tea. Maybe I love the original too much. Also for me, next to a few Eminem songs, one of the few hip hop songs I like.

Hello Rob, not for a video, but just for your own enjoyment. Check out the Amish Paradise video by Weird Al.

Would you do covers from the 70s . . Thin Lizzy covered a song by Bob Segar called . . .."Rosalie" .
Its about Rosalie Trombley a Canadian music director responsible for launching many bands careers . .
If you do it it would be cool . The Bob Segar one do first as its more country rock . Then Thin Lizzy liven it up a bit . . It mite not be your thing but its good old rock . .
Saw Thin Lizzy in London in 79 . . Awesome .
Till next time take care .
    Bye from NZ🍻👍🇳🇿twa

I'm going with Coolio on this one. This so called metal version just sounds like an overlay to what already exists. Not creative sounding at all.

Usually I can't listen to "gangsta" rap stuff. Both songs have greatness, especially because of the clerical singing. Vaguely I heard Bob Ezrin in Coolio's song. I prefer "State Of Mine". Because Jay Gearhart's voice is NOT typical "black gangstarish rappish".
    And he has a metal-presence.
    And he is visually present.
Coolio's minus, tragically, is that he tries to hide his "black" identity behind a white, blonde beauty. In order to make his music more acceptable for the white audience. I guess,
    it was Michelle Pfeiffer.

      Yes, now, according to Google:
"The music video for "Gangsta's Paradise", featuring Michelle Pfeiffer, won the MTV Music Video Award for..."
As a strong vocalist Coolio doesn't need to reduce himself in his own song. Michelle Pfeiffer is more prominent, she is bigger. She was with Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford etc. in great movies. This is so sad, that he thinks he needs a big white star to compensate his black skin and black voice.
Whereas "State Of Mine" are self confident, strong, proud.
That's what makes them more powerful and authentic.

@@HappyMachorino-bd8no I watched a lot of Coolio on TV spots, I always liked his personality.

He's nice. But I liked Michelle Pfeiffer's personality more. Without singing, she took his song away from him!
That's why the "State Of Mine" cover is STRONGER than the original. Jay Gearhart owned the song.
