The Normal type isn't supereffective against ANYTHING else... but are Normal Pokemon better than they were in Gen 4!? Pokemon Ruby is one of my favorite games in the franchise, and there are a lot of underrated Normal type options in Gen 3... but might it be a bit more challenging than expected in a hardcore nuzlocke? Let's find out!
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon RubyHardcore Nuzlocke with only Normal types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

I was wondering why you didn't use the bulma's astonish to hit roxanne's geodude, since it's not ineffective and in gen 3 the ghost type attacks were physical, it would take advantage from the +6 attack
You know, for a minute I was confused what Hikui did between all those folks from Dragon Ball. Until I remembered that the Hikui Bird was a thing in OG Dragon Ball. GG, well played, mate. Awesome video as always.
I was the same way bro I'm a die hard db fan and I was like da heck is a hikui I had to look it up at first and then I remembered it bc it was filler and I've literally I think seen that episode maybe once in my life lol

@@TheGreatAngel Yeah, but they sometimes don't make any sense when compared to canon. Like the Demon Realm arc after Red Ribbon or Garlic Jr. They're mostly great, but I'll just read the manga if I want to experience DB again. Toriyama's panel work is honestly the best in the manga industry and I highly suggest you try give it a read.

Did you put him in the daycare and then go to a sand dune with the acro bike, leaving the up button taped down overnight?
My first level 100 was also ruby! It was my starter swampert. It was impish, and I suspect it had terrible IVs as well but I didn’t know any better back then. With ice beam, surf, earthquake and protect, I was able to level it to 100 by spamming the elite four over and over lol. Also the only game I ever completed the Pokédex, and I ran the internal battery dry. So much nostalgia, I’m 29 years old and have never enjoyed a Pokémon game as much as my Ruby play through ❤️

Claydol: Ground/Psychic
Armaldo: Rock/Bug
Cradily: Rock/Grass
Aggron: Steel/Rock
Metagross: Steel/Psychic
Half his team is technically rock type.
He's a theme trainer. He has an ore theme as a geologist.

I love the videos Silph. But you should try a difficulty rom hack like blaze black/volt white 2. I recently finished a nuzlocke in it and while it was really difficult and took me a few tries, i personally found it super fun to theory craft around each obstacle. What’s nice, is that everything is documented if you prefer not to play blind

Thank you so much for helping me figure out if you can get flamethrower for watson. I wanted to research this to make a guide for nuzlockes as emerald is espicially hard. During that magneton battle if you chose treeko it's almost near impossible to defeat it depening on your encounter. Great job man!!!

I’ve played through every Gen multiple times, have done countless playthroughs of RSE, and never have I ever known that jigglypuff was an encounter in those games. Kinda wanna use one now lol
ya it's something i have mised feelings on. having a pokemon being super rare on a route makes it cool to run into, but if you don't search it up you sometimes may never know all the encounters of the route which only will become more of a problem as more pokemon are added. when there are things with a 1% chance kinda deal. i remember as a teen blowing a person's mind by telling him you could catch a Slowpoke and Grimer fishing in Celadon City in gen 1 and they had played plenty of pokemon themselves and also showing them the hidden cave in gen 4 to get Gible. sometimes i just think they have things so obtuse or hidden without looking it up its just a pain, like the Milotic cave puzzle with only 3 patches it will appear in 1% or in Gen2 when you had to figure out which of 3 trees of dozens had a 1% Heracross in it (or the Ecruteak City trees if you had some1 let you know it was easier there)

Silph thank to your inspiration I made this exact challenge in this same game just a couple of weeks ago, it’s so much fun watching you doing the same challenge that I did 😁 it’s so curious also watching that we used completely different strategies, for example I used tha sand attack strategy vs Roxanne, I used the bulk up and rock smash combo vs Walter and I ABUSED of the guts ability of swellow 😂

I just did this exact nuzlocke run and it was super fun and helped me appreciate a lot of pokemon I normally (heh) would never use like Castform, Kecleon and Azurill! Can't wait to see how you did it in this video. My team by the end was Kecleon, Girafarig, Dodrio, Azurill, Castform and Zangoose.
EDIT: Now that I've watched the video, I can say I feel your pain for not getting Skitty. Roxanne killed my first run because of that. On the second run Skitty's Attract and Charm can really let you set up more easily.
If only the rules allowed for you to acquire the Skitty in Fortree.
I think you are overrating the travel hazard. I made a whole trip in the trunk of a car as a kid. Few to no injuries to report!
Also got to love how each time he finds a new way to make Norman evil. This time he's a mass murderer! And got to love the DB naming scheme.
The "strategy element of Raid" is creating bosses that require full teams of characters with specific capabilities, capabilities that just so happen to only be avaliable on high rarity characters that either have a terrible pull rate or straight up aren't obtainable out of summonings that free to play players can access.

In Gen 3, Ghost type moves are considered physical attacks, and Dark type moves always special, so I tend to put Shadow Ball on my favorite normal type attacker, Zangoose.
That, and I like using Linoone as my "I can't believe it's not water type" Pokemon, since the combination of HM's (specifically surf and Strength) give him a surprisingly viable set of attacks, and keeping him from just being an HM slave.
Ha I can't believe that guts' description says "ups attack if SUFFERING" lol

Roxane might have been easier if you have used astonish since it's physical and not resisted.But you were great as always.
Yeah, but I think he chose Uproar because even though it's resisted, he thought the higher base power plus STAB and +6 Attack would've made up for it. The flinch chance from Astonish probably would've made it a better choice as well though.
