Ever since we faced Brock in Gen 1, we've known Rock types have some... problems. How will they fare in a hardcore nuzlocke though!?
We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Sapphire Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Rock types?

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of trading/importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Hey Silph Squad! This was one of the runs I had the most fun with so I hope you enjoy it as much as I did! Huge thanks to Raid for sponsoring the video and supporting the channel; if you're looking for a new game to try out don't forget to check it out as it's free-to-play and a quite a blast to play: clik.cc/5VaV3
@Anna ♪ woow
Do you think you’re ever going to continue the true power tournament series? Now that there’s that nuzlocke batting tournament I feel that competitive battling tournaments are becoming more popular
An idea for your next challenge run. Pokemon renegade platinum using only gift pokemon
Hey mate great video, got a suggestion why dont you do a fire type hardcore nuzlock on emerald version. I think it will be a good challenge for you if its even possible, if you have not done it all ready.
You should do moon emerald with rock types, the rock types available there are better and Rockruff spawns on route 1
SilphSpectre and FlygonHG nuzlocke challenges are honestly one of the things im looking forward to every week.
Try antler boy
We need a collab (including antler boy)
@@soumyajeetbag2553 How the hell would a Nuzlocke collab work?
@@hidan4662 Thanks for the recommendation! Will check him out later.
Same, Andrew collette as well
I know it is your rules but I personally wouldn’t mind at all for you to allow trade evolutions thanks to a randomizer. This evolution mechanic is so annoying it’s actually cool to see Pokemons like Golem, Alakazam, etc, that we don’t necessarily see often because of it.
Just my two cents.
Other than that great video :)
Agreed, I think on the UPR it's called "allow impossible evolutions" or something along those lines. Self imposed rules so its up to you but I think seeing golem would be *chefs kiss* great videos :)
another rule i don't mind him changing would be being able to load a save to retry if he wipes, seeing how many tries some of his challenges take to get going, and how long the wired a$$ tactics to get them going sometimes takes, that's just gotta be crazy frustrating lol plus, getting all the way to the end, and having some bad luck end a run must be the most stressful thing i can imagine for a video like this, i get the whole nuzlock challenge stuff, but man, ya gotta cut yourself some slack
@@jasonrustmann9876 I guess u dont know how a nuzlocke works
@@oofjeff3735 i know how they work, but given how many times he's had to restart some challenges because of the early difficulty and how long those grinds are to get going, I wouldn't care if he skipped having to redo that stuff to save himself some time, and i bet with another shot or two after a wipe, he'd have beaten that normal only run he did a while back
@@jasonrustmann9876 I agree I think for stuff where it takes like 1 hour to grind a Pokémon to fight the first gym I think resets are fine but only like up to the first gym
There's also a trainer in the abandonned ship able to walk through the freakin' wall and battle you, this only works in Ruby and Sapphire, it was fixed in Emerald.
There’s another on Route 121 which Smallant showed.
@@skeetermania3202 I was about to mention this one! Seems Gen 3 has some barrier detection issues lol
@Dogukan Demirel Yeah lol, imagine if it could happen on the 3D games
Ghost ship, ghost sailors
Lost my started on a nuzlocke to this guy :(

"SOFT SAND BOOSTED STAB SUPER-EFFECTIVE EARTHQUAKE"
Best part of the video you cant change my mind. I love when Silph starts to list how many effects he added to a single move
24:44 :V
25:45 has to be
"Juggernaut has a mild nature, which is plus defence and minus special attack."
Who's gonna break it to him?
Break what?
@@wrestlingguy8722 it's the exact opposite, definitely a shite nature.
@@Petertuske Not for a Rock Pokemon who uses attack and relies on defense my dude.
@@wrestlingguy8722 You misunderstand, mild nature does the opposite, it raises spatk and lowers def. I havent played for years but i remembered that.
@@Petertuske Ah! Gotcha! Thanks my dude! My mistake
"960 super-effective move barreling at her." Dude. You hit Altaria so hard it went into another dimension where it got a Mega buff.
Since you have access to the universal randomizer, do you think your future runs you could turn on trade evos by level up? Would be fun to have those encounters available!
Your PFP scares me
I tried. Some how in Crystal my Abra evolved in to ninoqueen instead of kadabra
@@davidciszewski7497 interesting
@@davidciszewski7497 You'll have turned on random evolutions. The settings are next to eachother.
Fun fact: McKagan was named after Michael Andrew "Duff" McKagan, who played bass and guitar for Guns and Roses
I think Duff is currently the bassist for GNR
Hope you get a heart since Silph promised :D
Noticed that! Also Floyd was probably inspired from the Dark side of the moon" album by Pink Floyd
Why aren't you hearted yet, he said he will heart any comments that got the refrence
Drake's Shelgon doing that was genuinely one of the best plays from the AI I've ever seen
Aaron's one of my favorite gen 3 pokemon, its so bad ass. When I was a kid I thought I had 200 IQ when noticed mine wasnt effected by recoil and learned double edge.

@@lengovanatalia very acute of you triangle.
@@lengovanatalia Who cares tho, either way you spell it you pronounce it the same.
"One slimy noodly boy" lmao. Also Deity was the GOAT here - never doubting Relicanth's power again
Relicanth is an underrated powerhouse. It can have Rock Head, and in later generations learns STAB BP 150 Head Smash. Equipping a Choice Band makes it a devastating weapon that deletes anything that isn’t high in physical defense. It’s glaring weaknesses, of course, is it’s 4x weakness, slow speed and low Special Defense.
One of my favorite water types of all time, and for good reason!
I used one to beat all of my friends teams last year in ORAS. It’s fun using underrated pokemon just to see how powerful they can be outside of competitive!
Ok “the moon itself” line when going up against Norman really got me. Your narration for these hardcore nuzlockes is just always on-point.
Love that dark side of the moon reference for lunatone!
Rollout sweeps are so fun, I was delighted when Hone Claws was introduced, as Hone Claws, Defense Curl, Rollout is a truly terrifying combo.
You mean TRIO
Amazing Run Silph I thought the 2nd May battle could have ended it but nicely played.
Also loving the rock and roll reference nicknames
Mckagan from GnR love it
Ok I thought you were gonna find a way to cheat/get around the May fight but.. you always find a way to do it legit no matter the odds and that's what I love about your nuzlockes
This battle depends solely on luck, just like Brawlys. I tried myself maaany times. I think its a bit unlikely he got past all them at first try. But the video is good anyway
Finally a chance to see Relicanth going Rock n Roll!
I love these and am thrilled we get a new one. Thanks Silph!
Yea thanks silph you're funny and the best
“The moon itself” had me dying
Same lmao
I'm only half way through this video, but McKagan is legitimately a GOAT'd pokemon from all of your nuzlocke runs. Dude just mowed down the whole world
F.U Solrock - _ -
Okay, so the thing with the girl climbing the ledge is very common knowledge actually. It was sadly removed in emerald though...
I'm predicting that Aggron will be the MVP
Naw nosepass is the man
I don't know where I got so addicted to this channel's challenges, everytime I see one I click on it immediately, I guess I'm just gonna subscribe
I also have a soft spot for Relicanth. It has a really cool inspiration based off of the coelacanth, an ancient fish that was at the time of Gen 3's release recently discovered to still be alive. Gamefreak was so happy about the news that they added it into the game.
I think specifically choosing rock type and sapphire version made this a very unique gen 3 monotype run!
Silph: “Martha, I’m going to need you to be honest with me. . . Is this a cult?”
Martha: “. . . . . noooooooo. . . . .”
May's dialog at 25:56 is possibly the best reaction to having that done to your team when you have a ×4 type advantage
I was a tad worried about how you'd deal with Roxanne's Nosepass and then you set it up so you'd learn Magnitude. That's very crafty.
Another sunday another clutch upload cant wait to enjoy this at work
Your upload schedule is perfect, every Sunday morning I look for these!
Mckagan was such a Chad. It was able to beat the first 4 gyms solo and got so many high magnitude
Ive never seen so many Graveller sweeps in a single playthrough. This video is gold.
I’m a brand new subscriber and I’ve worked my way through most of your challenge videos during the last week. I can’t tell you how hyped I was to see a new upload today! Keep up the good work!
Ur nuzlockes are extremely entertaining to watch. Ur sense of humour, fun personality never lets any part of the video be boring and ur strats are always well planned.
Loving ur content ❤️❤️
I love your videos Silph, been waiting all week for this!
Wait McKagan as in Duff, the 'ROCK'STAR?!
Well played.
I get so excited whenever you post Silph! I find myself running whenever I see you've posted a new nuzlocke!! Keep up the great work!!😄
40 minutes of pure relaxation! Thank you for always working so hard to give us these fun challenges
I actually find it very exhilarating! But, I can see others being relaxed
Hell Yeah get that bag bro, i love it when youtubers i love get a sponsor for a Video. I didnt miss any of em, give it your all and keep up the Lords work ♥️
As a veteran of the Pokémon games, I can say for certain that in Ruby and Sapphire, the female trainer can go over the ledge to get to you for a battle. I have had it happen.
EDIT: I fixed this comment because I was informed that it doesn’t happen in Emerald. Even as a veteran, I still can make mistakes time to time.
They fixed it in Emerald
@@ragergamer3111 My mistake. I’ll fix that. Thanks.
@@DarkMagicalYoshi "Even as a veteran, I still can make mistakes time to time." That sounds like what a trainer would say after you beat him
@@vacuumboots Exactly.
I had no idea defense curl powered up rollout like that! Always get something new to learn when watching your videos and these set teams look like so much fun!! Love your content man keep doing what you do - you are hella entertaining
Yes, the Aroma Lady going up the ledge is a known and funny glitch
Awesome videos, keep doing runs man. At 29:00 , i honestly never saw that in action lmao!
Hey Silph I just want to say I love your videos. I just recently found your channel and I’m glad I did these hardcore nuzlockes are very entertaining. I especially loved the ghost one in platinum. Anyway keep doing what you’re doing cause it’s fantastic.
“Audrey” could double as a Little Shop of Horrors reference.
Im 100% sure it is
Wont watch any other nuzlocks but yours love the commentary! And how you play! Cant wait for the next one!!!!
10:24 - yeah that guy majorly cheesed real quick 😂
Love your runs, Silph!
I look forward to these! Been watching since the true power days!
If i recall correctly, mild nature raises special attack and lowers defense.
Favorite mono-type so far, well edited and challenging.. makes me want to mono type sapphire on my own:D still finishing up a hardcore nuzlocke on X
For the Aroma Lady near Mauville City, yes she can see you over the ledge and monstrously defy the law and engage in battle with you 😂 I know this because I played Sapphire a lot when I was a kid, and accidentally got into her range which surprised me for the first time, and I have been constantly doing it every time I play Sapphire 😂😂
"We arrived in Dewford Town safely, meaning Mr. Briney didn't kill us" was genuinely one of the funniest things I have heard you say
15:29 THAT HAPPENED TO ME TOO! I thought my game was just glitched, but apparently it's just a thing! xD Amazing haha
I absolutely LOVE your hardcore nuzlocke videos!!!
Amazing run! Thoroughly enjoyed it, thank you
A Silph Nuzlocke always makes my day
"ancient extinct noodly boy" made me happy

The fight against steven was 🔥 Great video as always, Silph!
I've been struggling to find sapphire for so long!!! There are so many games I'm missing from my collection!! I'm super excited got this nuzlocke too!

Been loving all the bad dad jokes in the Gen 3 nuzlockes
Your videos are really fun to watch!!
19:25 "The Moon itself!" 😄😄😄
Love your Nuzlockes keep up the good work
The voice over on your nuzlocke videos is the most entertaining among other nuclocke youtuber! Keep it up!
Great run! Love both Sapphire and Rock types. Very interesting approach at the beginning with the EV training.
That glitch to the right of Mauville is a known thing by some. I love doing it in camera every time
That May fight was a serious case of "Never Punished."
McKagan is a reference to Duff McKagan, Bassist for the "hard rock" band Guns n' Roses, and I thoroughly appreciate that little nod. Much love Silph
No!!! Raid Shadow Legends got Silph too!!!
Like I only watch hardcore nuzlockes from Silph. THE BEST of all. Funny and strategic. A great combo!
Hey Silph! I am a new subscriber!!!😘😘
always love the effort you put into these silph.
I don’t know why but I’m simply addicted to your videos
When you said "You know what time it is" at 25:50, I expected to hear Optimus Pride saying "Autobots, Roll Out!" lmao
So it's lore accurate that people can use held items. So in Legends Arceus I should be able to use choice Banded pokeball throws then, lol.
"suction cups coming in absolute clutch" never thought I would hear that sentence
A wild Gengar appeared and said “Algorithm”
McKagan for Duff McKagan, bass player of the legendary ROCK band Guns n Roses!
hell yea duff mckagan the guns n roses guy! I only realized the reference since you made so much rock references, and this being a rock type run
Always hype for your videos 🙏
Since we never saw Martha's response to his question, we have to assume Silph has been inducted into the Berry Cult.
I'd love to see a challenge on one of the Gamecube RPGS givem the limited options and being only double battles
"Feed me, Silphmore" - Cradilly probably while Giga Draining
Awesome silph. Keep it up! :-)
This is a really interesting run as you can actually get a grass , fire water core with cradily , magcargo and relicanth this covers all you weaknesses except for fighting which can be handled by solrock/lunatone in oras its even better as you can also get rhyperior with solid rock and probopass with thunderbolt and also the post gen 4 sandstorm sp.def buff to rock types and probopass's sand force ability
Cradily is one of my favorite fossil pokemon and I'm glad to see lileep get the love it deserves
How do you know when Silph has made it... hes sponsored by Raid Shadow Legends 🤣
I thought the advert was a joke at first! 😆
Get your money Silph!
So many of my favorite Gen 3 Pokémon were Rock-type, so the Rock monotype challenge being in Sapphire was a delight! A shame Corsola couldn't come in clutch, but I figured as much since it's placed near the end of the game. I know it's weak but I'm weak for it too.
Isn't McKagan the bass player for Guns n Roses?Which is a rock band.Im a big fan.Love the creativity in the names you give to your pokemon!
Love the sound clips and video edits in this video, jkrrp em coming!
SilphSpectre and FlygonHG are my favorite content creators now. Love the HC nuzlockes keep them coming!!
