Water types are incredibly abundant and generally have well-rounded stats, aside from terrible speed. What if we got access to the full spectrum of Water encounters in Pokémon Emerald... could they beat the game's hardest challenge?

We've done some hard Pokemon challenges in the past, but usually they were a solo Pokemon challenge run. What if we still did a really difficult challenge... but with a full team using hardcore nuzlocke rules, and with only one type? Today we find out: can I beat a Pokemon Emerald Hardcore Nuzlocke with only Water types? No items and no overleveling!

Monotype Hardcore Nuzlocke Ruleset:
(1) If a Pokémon faints, it must be permanently boxed or released.
(2) Only the first type-specific Pokémon encountered in each Route/Area can be caught.
(3) No Legendaries/Mythicals, duplicates, or same-evolution-line Pokémon can be caught or used. If a duplicate is encountered, the next unique type-specific Pokémon encounter can be caught.
(4) Additional Pokémon may be caught for the purpose of HM use, but these may not be used in battle at any time during the run.
(5) No Items can be used in battle (Held Items are allowed).
(6) Party Pokémon levels are limited to the highest level Pokémon of the next Gym Leader or Elite 4 Member. So long as your Pokémon are at or below the level cap when the Gym Leader/Elite 4 Member battle starts, they can level up mid-battle.
(7) "Set" Battle Mode must be used at all times.
(8) No connecting with other games for the purposes of importing Pokémon, Items, etc.

Small correction- if I’m not mistaken, Swablu is Normal/Flying and doesn’t get dragon typing until evolving into Altaria. So Ice Beam is not 4x supereffective

Besides Gardevoir, Milotic has to be one of my favourite pokemon that came out of Gen 3.

And this is why I love Starmie. I’m currently doing a water Pokémon run in Soul Silver, but not with the restrictions. I also had a trainer proclaim that she thought I was weak while I have Gyarados following me around obediently. Go figure!

Honestly I think people underestimate Wailord a bit! Load that bulky boi with Def, SpD, and SpA EVs and you've got quite a monster

Been watching these nuzlockes for about a year now crazy how much Silph has improved his comedy, storytelling, explanations for things video editing and so much more that goes into making these videos great video as always excited to see Silph continue to grow!!
I'm surprised Silph didn't know about this online "system" that someone made where you input your trainer ID and other information from your current game and that tells you what tiles you need to fish on for the Feebas.

This Normand battle was wild! This was so fun to watch! Especially with the few water Pokemon that we barely ever see in any nuzlocke video!
This isn't a type challenge, but have you ever considered, say, an N-locke? I don't know if such a challenge already exists, or if that's the name of it if it does, but the challenge would be a regular nuzlocke with the twist of building your team the way N does in BW; for each gym, you only use the available pokemon from the local routes. So if you're fighting the first gym, you use all accessible encounters up to the point, and then box them once the gym is defeated. Move onto the next gym, and only use available encounters from the routes near the gym, and so on, like how N will build a team of local pokemon for a battle, then build a new team for the next one. Maybe the "one encounter per route" rule could be eschewed to show off more pokemon species, or maybe it'd be an additional level of difficulty to limit encounters. I have no idea how well this challenge could work, but maybe it could be a fun new take on Nuzlockes!

Always glad to see variety added to a nuzlocke team. Even something as strong as Milotic doesn't get to shine because of the arbitrary catching/evolution mechanic. But really, I'm commenting here to shout to my homie Huntail, such an underrated 'mon.

My parents hopped on the "Pokemon is evil" bandwagon so I only got to start playing these games when I was 15. My neighbor gave me his Red, Yellow and Crystal copy and a GBC, and later that year another friend gave me his GBA and Emerald. I POURED over Emerald as my favorite. I later bought my own stuff, but I have yet to play any Gen5 games, and everything past ORAS and X/Y.
I kinda stole Lets Go Pikachu from my son and beat the hell out of it. But that doesn't count imo.

ollout carries fights. The defense curl rollout strat is more for defense, than damage. Look at it this way:
Turn 1 : Defense curl \ rollout power 1
Turn 2 : Rollouw power 2 \ rollout power 2
Turn 3: Rollout power 4\ rollout power 4
Turn 4: rollout power 8 \ rollout power 8
Turn 5: rollout power 16 \ rollout power 16
Turn 6: rollout power 32 \ any other skill.
The benefit to def curl vs standard rollout strats lie in the fact that you have +1 def for the entire duration, AND for the final turn you can do even more damage for tht single hit, at the cost of taking the turn to setup. The first 5 turns of damage are equal to what they would otherwise be without the def curl.
The more you know.

This was a fun run. Considering how many Water Types are in Hoenn, the options are numerous.
That run in the end with the E4 was nerve wrecking. So many went down or were on the verge of death I thought Silph was gonna lose.
Thankfully he pulled through and was able to walk all over Steven. Probably one of his most rewarding runs yet. Kind of wish we saw action from a potential Walrein or Lanturn, but seeing Starmie and Milotic of all things was more than worth it.
Oh hell yeah, Silph uploaded. My day just got better.

Can you pull off a Wally challenge? Beat the league only with encounters wally gets in his victory road battle - gardevoir altaria roselia magneton and delcatty. I know it's gonna be rough but it would be awesome fun watching. Maybe roselia can come in clutch vs Watson but idk how you would beat Roxanne
I also have another suggestion - can you do an emerald nuzlocke with only 1 encounter of each type? (For eg, if you use mudkip you can't catch any water or ground type. If you get a poochyena then dark types are out. If you get a taillow then no more normal, flying types etc. Would be amazing fun to watch and could potentially result in a new run / new team every time you try again

Can you do a no evolution nuzlozke. So you can only use Pokémon at the same stage you caught them at. So if you catch a zubat you can’t evolve it to golbat or crobat and can’t catch is evolved form later in game due to dupes clause. It seems interesting idk 🤷😅
For your profanity sensor bleeps you could try using an appropriate sound affect from the Pokemon games. Some come to mind: potion during battle, A button press chime, funny pokemon cries, etc.
