    I will be interested to see when Duke finds out MARS has nothing to do with his encounter back then and this miniseries connects the dot with the Transformers and Void Rivals. Like it would be wild if Zertonian and Agorrian war has spilled over into earth or if the government knows more about aliens than we expect

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  6 місяців тому +8

      Yeah, I'm interested in seeing how much they know and how Void Rivals will eventually fit in. I love that Duke thinks he's on the trail with MARS, but is actually just unraveling a whole different thread. :)

    I know the darker tone is kinda strange for transformers or at least the violence. Personally I don’t mind but the tone I think really fits G.I.Joe

    The integration of both IPs is so organic, its making it feel like GI Joe and Transformers have always shared the same universe.
    With that being said, speaking as a hardcore Joe fan, this comic had so many layers of not only Easter eggs but also reimagining for the characters that make sense given their past history. Specifically, for the Dr. Burkhart. Awesome read, keep em coming!

    Outta all of the energon universe comics, duke has some of my favorite art, I tip my hat to whoever drew this, I dunno why I love it
    As each issue is published, the energon universe seems more and more promising, I love how they're integrating G.I. Joe and transformer more naturally than in previous crossovers where (in my opinion) they just mashed the two and didn't feel right
    And I have my fingers crossed that perhaps the gun cobra commander is using might be Megatron

    A brand new era of G.I. Joe starts here.
    Honestly, I don't really have much to say here. I really liked this issue. That comparison you made to Mission Impossible was rather apt I feel. Which is good because I really like those movies(Though I haven't seen the latest or the first two). Feel like we're getting a one-man version of G.I. Joe Renegades.
    Remember how you highlighted that bit in Escalation that was poking fun at how absurd the concept of the Transformers brand is? Well something I find curious about this issue is that it highlights the opposite. How horrifying the concept of the brand could be. Duke just saw a jet turn into a giant robot that killed his friend and that robot ENJOYED IT. And Duke has NO IDEA what that robot is, why it did what it did, or what it wants. Because he doesn't have the perspective we the reader do. That's some scary stuff right there.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  6 місяців тому +3

      That's a really good point about Duke's perspective, and an interesting connection to that bit in Escalation that wouldn't have occurred to me unless you pointed it out! Yeah, that whole thing would be terrifying and really mess with you, especially if your bosses just told you to get over it and stop talking about it. Makes it really understandable why he takes it into his own hands.
      And I only know Renegades by name only - is it good? I'm definitely curious about it and would be interested in watching it if I can find the time. In any case, thank you for the comment, I always appreciate seeing your thoughtful responses!

      @@Moonbase3 Renegades is good and a fun reinvention of G.I. Joe but it's only one season and it ends in a weird place. I don't wanna give too many spoilers but while it does manage to wrap up on a decent note it still has a bit of a cliffhanger ending. Kinda reads like they weren't sure if they were gonna get a second season so they did their best to play it both ways.

      @Moonbase3  6 місяців тому +3

      Ah, good to know. Thanks! Too bad they didn't get a second season. I'm still interested, though, so I'll have to give it a go sometime.

    Greetings MB3 and happy new year!
    So when I went to go pick up my copy of Duke #1 I realized how thoroughly Robert Kirkman has control of my wallet. Even during the IDW days I dug my heels in on GI Joe. I’ve never been a Joe fan even though as many have pointed out Transformers and GI Joe are basically the same idea with different settings and levels of SciFi. However, the setting and commitment to science fiction make a big difference to me and the Joes have never managed to get me invested. However, I still bought the issue and plan to buy the rest of the series mostly based on how good the other comics in this universe have been. Well done Skybound.
    Now for the comic itself: my interest is piqued but I’m not a GI Joe-head yet. The writing and art are helping tremendously in that regard, both are top-notch. I like Joshua Williamson a good bit, and he was one of the reasons I didn’t skip the issue (along with the connection to the Transformers and the promise of Baroness). I think if any series has the potential to get me into the Joes, it’s this one. It reminds me of how License to Kill is the only James Bond movie that does it for me, strip away the government backing and set the hero on a mission they have a personal stake in and I’m in.
    I believe I rated it 3.5/5 on the Comic Geeks app, and now having watched the video I think I’ll bump it up to 4/5. The little visual flourishes you pointed out at the end really tipped it from .5 to 4, it’s those little details that really give comics personality and I think that needs to be recognized. I do think there’s still room to wow me, and I hope by the end of the series I’ll be able to look back and think, “so this is how I got into GI Joe?”
    In any case, flawless analysis as always and cheers to ‘24!

      Happy New Year to you as well, dude! 2024 is going to be a year of kick-ass comics, that's for sure. I'm excited about going on this journey with you and seeing how your sentiments towards the Joe brand develop and possibly change (whether in favor of or against)!
      It's definitely pretty smart to connect all these titles. I was trying to shift over to mostly a digital-only collection moving forward, but then when the Void Rivals/Energon Universe reveal happened, that all went out the window and now I have to try to make space for more floppies. So Kirkman's got my money AND precious storage space for the foreseeable future. Appreciate the comment as always, and can't wait to see what you think of Cobra Commander!

      Yeah, hearing Joshua Williamson was gonna be writing this got me excited too. I LOVED his Flash run so when I heard he was going to be contributing to the newest Transformers universe (Even if it wasn't on the Transformers title itself) I was pumped.

    Now that you mention it, yay there is a strong Captain America Winter Soldier vibe in this comic, thanks for the insight. I enjoyed the conspiracy theist party near the middle of the book, giving mentions to Cobra-La, Zartan and the Headmasters. If M.A.R.S. is a part of the Energon Universe will we see Blackrock Enterprises or Sumdac Systems operating as counterpoint to Destro's company.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  6 місяців тому +3

      I was going to mention the Headmasters thing, but I forgot! Thanks for mentioning it. Didn't catch the other stuff - I considered making the mask thing another link to Mission Impossible, haha! But Zartan makes a lot more sense.
      It would be cool to see Blackrock, but I feel that company played such a big part in 05 IDW, I'd almost rather see something different like Sumdac Systems, which is a great suggestion!

    • @mr.end-game711
      @mr.end-game711 6 місяців тому +3

      @@Moonbase3 True and if its introduced and written well enough then would have Sumdac being another place of Megatron could be hiding. Also thanks for naming all the war machines in the lower levels of M.A.R.S.

    • @Moonbase3
      @Moonbase3  6 місяців тому +1

      Yeah, I'd like to see some companies/organizations from other continuities like Sumdac, but I'd also be open to entirely new ones as well.
      As for the war machines, sure thing! It was fun to do. Some of them were more recognizable than others! I think it's cool they included that page, because it prompts the question: is MARS manufacturing them for their own purposes, or are they producing them for someone else, like the (presumably) nascent Cobra organization?

    I'm not really into Transformers so I don't want to see them overshadow GI Joe, which is my major concern at the moment.
    But, so far, I am loving Duke and Cobra Commander. I love the way they put little things in to let you try and figure things out. The man from Australia for example, which any fan immediately goes to Major Bludd.

    Honestly moving Gi Joe into something like Mission Impossible seemed like the safest option for Hasbro to take the IP in. As the brand faced accusations as being ‘military propaganda’
    Honestly those armored police being similar to Vipers, reminds me of how the renegades cartoon used them. Basically the traditional cobra troopers/vipers were used as Cobra private security. While the term Viowr was used for the series’s biological creatures.
