This is the first time in my life that even being childless a minivan is making a compelling case for a utility ride. Also my friend gets almost 39mpg driving completely normal.
Exactly! And Toyota just started sending out the Grand Highlander to dealerships. The waitlist for that suv will be 3+ years. Toyota needs to get their production up to snuff first before they start making brand new cars.
Toyota seems to be drastically limiting their van supply. In fact Honda and Kia too just not as severely. As result, Toyota dealers in my area are adding $7k to $10k markup. This compared to only $3k to $6k from Honda and Kia. So to me, the gas savings are wiped out by the added bottom line price of the Sienna, that being about $5k to $8k more than somparable Honda or Kia models. We’ll likely be going with a Carnival SX for about $55k out the door. Comparable Odyssey best offer was about $57k for a Touring trim. Siennas, if we even find any, will seem to land over $60k out the door. Sad state of affairs in the US minivan market in my opinion.
Yep! After waiting for a sienna platinum for a year, we cancelled our order and got an odyssey elite for under msrp. Toyota keeps increasing the msrp as well that even before markups, the platinum is almost $60k
Toyota definitely needs to increase production to keep the unscrupulous dealers at bay. If you’re looking for a platinum the wait is about a year if you want it at MSRP. The key is to put a refundable deposit at a couple of dealers selling for MSRP with no dealer add ons, might have to extend your search radius. Also, do this when you don’t actually need it yet! That way waiting a few months or a year is not a big deal. If you’re deciding between the Carnival and Odyssey, the hands down best choice is the Odyssey, it has the best interior space with a smooth as butter powertrain that’s refined and bulletproof. Don’t get fooled by Kia’s interior tech, it’s nice but their powertrain is unreliable garbage. Don’t get fooled by their long warranty either, engine and transmission replacements are currently backlogged and can be several months wait. Why go through those headaches? Kia is the equivalent of a pretty girl with smoker’s lung 💀.💯
Couple of months with a 25th anniversary sienna 2023 after trading in our 2015 Honda odyssey. The sienna MPG is a game changer. Plenty of power even with the smaller engine and a joy to drive around town and long distance hauls. No idea why anyone wouldn’t choose the hybrid
No idea? Higher insurance rates, extremely limited availability + long waits to get one, dealer mark-ups, lower power, inferior ride, less room and ugly styling. I mean there are many reasons to consider the better riding Odyssey.
@@cmeller55 Absolutely, I'm definitely not arguing about that! Yes, the hybrid is a huge advantage on the gas mileage but of course that's much more the case if your use is city/stop-n-go type driving. I WAS concerned about the reliability of the hybrid systems but after a lot of research I realize that it's proven - especially Toyota's hybrids which have been around forever. I haven't decided on which to get but some of the big factors besides gas efficiency is availability, dealer mark-ups, road noise, ride and drive-ability and of course insurance premiums. Too bad we can't have everything in one perfect package but I now realize these are both excellent vehicles and it probably comes down to individual needs and preferences to make a choice. @@mnn1265I’ll say that we got a minivan due to the amount of travel we do for my kids travel soccer. Usually 4-6 hour distances every weekend. The mpg on highway have been 34-35 for the Awd. So if you are worried you won’t get the mileage on the highway it’s not the case.
@@cmeller55 Great to hear you're realizing the 36mpg on highway trips. No, I was referring to the fact that the hybrid get's such great mileage in city driving and that's where the savings really adds up buying a hybrid.
The minivan is better than an SUV in every single way, besides maybe towing. It’s not even close. But because the population is all about “look at me” and being just too damn proud to drive a minivan, the suv outsells it by a mile. If people only knew, that’s all you would see families in is a minivan

I believe the cargo space is lower simply because the middle row doesn’t come out, and has nothing to do with it being a hybrid. The batteries are under the front seats, so there isn’t any hybrid components in the rear to take up any space. Otherwise , great review as always! BTW, I love that green color.

How's the highway passing power? 70-90 would be good to know. I have a 2019 Honda Odyssey and the 3.5L V6 is plenty strong at the top end and gets about 30 mpg while cruising at 65-70.
I prefer the siennas current system to the new Toyota interface. Because the old system has more physical controls home screen and built in navigation The new interface doesn’t

Why wouldn't Toyota put proper 20 inch alloys on the platinum grade trim? Plus, I think 245hp for a vehicle this big with all family members in it will be gutless... especially when merging with highway traffic or driving uphill. The combined 35mpg rating is really cool but the engine is seriously underpowered. Perhaps, the hybrid max engine from the Grand Highlander should be included even if it will be an option.
Why would anyone pay well over $50,000 for a Toyota van that has safety sense 2.0 while the Corolla has safety since 3.0? I will wait until they upgrade the safety sense for the minivan plus give it a decent sized center screen.

Kia always has lots great features like unreliability and the chance for your Kia to start on fire. 😂
@kristenmae6761 yeah, yeah. Yall are always so pressed that people want to buy anything else other than toyota. And ppl who say all this about kia are the main ones saying it about every single car that ain't toyota and honda
@@Astral-up I actually just owned a Kia. Traded it in for a Toyota after having a lot of issues with it. So like I said it was great until it wasn’t. It also only had 64,000 miles on it.
More horses 🐎 too. Weak!
Sienna looks SO Bad, they need to take some tips from Kia.
I don't really like how the sedona/carnival looks tbh
someone doesnt know what good taste is
bro it looks so futuristic
@@jxmar_ It looks like a pregnant beluga.
@@BoopSnoot pregnant whale that people are on a waiting list to get one. like someone said, get your eyes checked
i think platinum awd should have 19’s at least
Despite the high mpg there’s way too many compromises for the sienna
You’d honestly be better off with an odyssey or carnival
Other than the lack of maximum cargo, what other compromises are there? Lack of power? The majority of Sienna owners and reviewers say it's sufficient enough.
@@arhamkhakwani5851 primarily the noisy 4 cylinder.
bro it has a hybrid
@@goexplore55true but with the 4 cylinder it’s very noisy. Once you load people up in this it’ll probably struggle for power
@@naveenthemachine well thats true too, but quite frankly, having loud kids could cancel that out though. Not quite the deal breaker, but a definite con.
Weak 4 cylinder and CVT, im chosing Honda Odyssey
Too bad they dont make a Odyssey Hybrid.
Can’t believe how Toyota thought 245HP is sufficient for a minivan?? Don’t know how people are buying , compromising on mpg?… I feel 245 hp is dangerously low for a minivan
It's more than plenty. Rented one last month at Skyharbor Airport for 1 week. Drove 3000 miles in it with fully loaded family and gear. Easily went up mountain grades and passing newer Suburbans, Silverados, and F150s. Drove it in Sport mode with AC full blast and still managed 30.0MPG. Just floor it and next thing you know you're close to 100mph
Dangerously low? Ridiculous. You were lucky to get 150hp out of a minivan in the 90s.
going 25 to 35mph most of the time in school zones and rush hour traffic 245HP is way more than enough
That very ugly brown tone color inside is a very bad choice Toyota
