My navigation radio unit stopped working. The dealer wanted $5986. That's not a typo. I turned to the aftermarket for a solution, but I fear that would not be an option in the new van. 6. I like all the options for charging. My 2010 has 3 12V outlets. 2 in front, 1 in the 3rd row, plus a 110V household outlet, which I use to power festive lights during the holiday season. It's adequate, but the 2021 is current with the times. 7. The 3rd row folding process on this one is MUCH improved over mine, though the end result produces the same flat load floor. Removing my captain's chairs is a pain. Thankfully I don't have to do it all that often. 8. 20 inch wheels? Seriously? LOL what does a set of tires cost, $1200? Cool sidenote: in high school, a friend of mine had a 1996 Honda Odyssey that he put 20" DUBs on. It rode awful. 9. Not sold on the huge open cubby in the middle. My 2010 has a closeable cubby under the shifter I use to store sick bags. The 2 tiered center console holds my flashlight, pen, and tire gauge in the top; and a box of tissues in the bottom. It even has secret cubbies in the front doors that I use for my self defense items. 10. The mirror is cool. A gimmick, but cool. Visibility out of vans SUCKS. 11. Vacuum is a HUGE plus. Hey Doug! Just wanted to correct your observation that people can "plug in their toaster" to the outlet in vehicles and also point out that on this vehicle it's actually an additional quirk/feature you might want to point out. In most vehicles you've reviewed where you mention the ability to "plug in a toaster", the outlet is actually nowhere near powerful enough to actually run a toaster. So it's potentially dangerous to try to plug a toaster into most vehicle outlets, or at the least will blow a fuse. One way you can tell is by looking at the outlet itself. Most cars/trucks will say something like "400W" on the outlet. But toasters typically take 800W - 1200W to to function so if you try to run a toaster in a outlet rated at 400 watts it will certainly blow a fuse and who knows what else. Now that being said, on THIS vehicle (the Toyota Sienna Platinum) the outlet says "1500W" (WHICH IS ABSOLUTELY INSANE) and should be able to power any toaster no problem. This is actually quite incredible and is worth giving an additional callout to because it's actually more than likely setting a new standard. It's possible that the new hybrid powertrain means the battery is a lot more capable and therefore can provide this tremendous power (although I'm just guessing). A hilarious but impressive "best in class" feature. (for comparison, the 2019 Honda Odyssey Owner's manual claims an abysmal 150 watts max on their outlet so this is a 10x improvement on the new Sienna) Love what you do Doug! Been watching for years and I've learned an incredible amount. Thanks for giving me something to look forward to every Tue/Thu.

I’m not embarrassed to say I love my 2008 Sienna. 245k on it and still gets 25mpg on the Hwy, while engine runs perfectly, zero leaks or blow by. Love the Hybrid addition!!!
People aren't thinking about the need to replace the battery pack after 10 years or 150,000 miles. Your gas motor can keep going for years but with hybrids the clock is ticking on major repair expenses. The depreciation on the new hybrid is going to be much worse as they age compared to the V-6 Sienna. Watch some Scotty Kilmer videos, a great fan of Toyota's, and see what he thinks of hybrids as they age.
Not specifically related but i have an 03 corolla with 222k on the dash. Apart from a couple wheel hubs when i got it (≈145k) i have spent pretty much nothing maintaining it beyond tires and oil. Never been brought to a stop in any kind of weather, never left me on the side of the road, this thing will take you anywhere and will conquer mountains while it’s at it. @@waruddell there are plenty of Toyota hybrids on their original batteries over 200k, especially priuses. They definitely wont last forever, but they’ve gotten very good and will only get better. That combined with the boost in fuel economy and the fact that even most Toyota owners don’t hold on to the vehicle after 200k (despite the many instances of people doing just that, toyota sells millions per year so that’s still a small fraction), the hybrid system isn’t gonna be affecting too many wallets

@@Bob-fk8vd This. One of these vans as a camera vehicle if you’re a UA-camr, or for camping if you raid trip to national parks. You can fit bikes, charge battery banks, and haul 5 people all at the same time with blu-ray movies, surround sound, and CarPlay while letting the active cruise control do it’s thing. It’s like having an executive transport vehicle for less than a base e-class.
If you want a leg rest, the Kia Sedona has a even nicer middle row seat. In the Kia the middle chair actually slides sideway a little bit, which allows you to fold down the third row seat and slide the 2nd row seat even further back, which means you can fully stretch out in the middle row chair. I don't think the Sienna middle row chair can go back as far as the Kia.
Jokes aside, if you're at a school where they do carpool lanes, putting it in ev mode there makes so much sense. Long queues of cars just idling seems stupid and wasteful.
@@zeroelus hardly that wasteful. A 2.5 liter gas engine (as in the powerplant on this van) is going to burn about 4 tenths of a (US)gallon (.39 to be precisely approximate since every engine is going to be a tad different) per hour. Now let's say you maybe wait for a half hour in line to pick up your kids 5 days a week, then you've wasted all of only 1 (US)gallon a week. Hardly anything in the grand scheme of things since that equates to maybe an extra $2 - $3 a week all while keeping your climate control running.
@@Omgiamsotriggered That's an inconsequential amount of money is my point. The person that can afford to buy one of these vans - even the base model - is not going to care about an extra $144 a year spent in gas. Any person that is poor enough to care about that amount of money can't afford a brand new $30,000 van and certainly not the high end trim shown here. And by the time they could afford one of these from the used market, the battery is going to be worthless if it works at all. Think about it this way. How many times a week do you think the person driving this van buys a cup of coffee? Do they buy any liquor? Cigarettes? Do they pay for cable/satellite tv every month? Someone pinching pennies might care. Someone who has what the typical driver of this van is going to have will not care about those few extra dollars and would rather keep their climate control going to stay comfortable.
I think it's something everyone likes from Doug. I'm just some random 19 year old university student and I find this more interesting that the supercars. Who knows

I borrowed this Hybrid Sienna from a friend who just bought it new and it was a Platinum model. I went to the beach with it and had 4 adults and 4 children in the Van. We have 8 people worth of luggage so the back hatch was filled to the top with luggage and had a hitch mounted cargo carrier filled to the brim with more luggage. We also have surf boards and a paddle boat mounted on the roof. So the Sienna was fully loaded and very heavy, I was worried the hybrid system would not be able to pull all this weight. But to my surprise it handled it better than a Sienna V6 last Gen model we took to the beach last year. It was actually more capable than the V6 model. It felt very powerful especially when driving from a full stop. Felt very torquey. The whole road trip we averaged 34 MPG and I am in love! We just may have to buy one for ourselves. Toyota hit a home run with this one.

@@lefthanded5473 Yeah I agree. A used Prius would be a much more cost effective Uber/Lyft solution. How often do Uber rides involve more than 4 passengers anyway?
I can see it being used as a VIP car, period. If you request a black car in NYC, one of the higher options is a minivan. Last time I was there with the family, a man picked us up in a black Sienna with leather interior.
I can confirm this. We sold a BMW 5-series to get the van. My dad and I take a lot of road trips and couldn't stand doing it in a sedan, doesn't matter what model. The space of the van is so important to us we cared less about letting go of a status symbol. Not to mention, the van is far more comfortable, spacious for your legs, and it's ironically more powerful. 2018 V6 Sienna, when they had the most horsepower.
We always opt for our 2005 Sienna that has already racked up 301K miles when we go on long trips. We choose the Sienna over our SUVs and Sedans because the Sienna is space efficient that has excellent ride that is important for long drives and the Sienna is extremely reliable. More importantly, I would buy another Sienna because it’s a Toyota. Toyota dealer network, spare parts logistics, Toyota longevity & reliability are key factors for keeping a vehicle for a very long time.
As a dad of 2 teenagers, we have owned both of the previous generations of Sienna. That $50K sticker price is a little hard to stomach, but I agree that the awesome gas mileage is a huge selling point. Thank you for the review!
@Right Round same! You have all of these idiots going around depleting their air as they exercise. These are the same people who are allowed to vote SMH
@Right Round Today I saw two normal drivers wearing a face mask. What's the point of wearing a face mask inside a car when the car is one of the safest places to be during the pandemic?
Back when I was young, when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, we sat in the back of an old Ford Falcon with no rear seatbelts being pummelled by my brothers waiting for the ride to end.
I am single with no intention of getting married and having kids any time soon. And yet... a minivan sounds like so much fun. You could hall any and all outdoor gear in that thing easier than just about anything. Also you could literally live in this thing. It’s the ultimate road trip warrior.
I would ask the dealer to switch out the 20" wheels with 19" wheels and run a thicker tire which can help road noise and comfort. 20" wheels in a van just scream poor ride quality to me.
The thicker the tire, the more shock it obsorbs. Thats why cars with low profile tires run like crap. Smaller wheels + bigger tire walls = better ride. Most of my cars have low profile tires which have 18 and 19 inch wheels but since theyre low profile, they have small walls and they run like crap, fun, but like crap.
I feel that V6’s are slowly being phased out. Nowadays you can’t get a midsize sedan with a V6 anymore and most entry level luxury SUVs have turbo 4 cylinder engines. Sad times.
Toyota: hmm, We have some extra space what should we do ? people: extend the armrest or add some more physical buttons Toyota: No No, We should add cup holders
I believe this Minivan is the most vehicle money can buy. Somehow car enthusiasts hate Minivans, but I don't see it that way. I just sold my Sienna after 17 years / 280k miles of ownership. During that 17 years, it took my 2 Children home from the maternity ward, and adopted 2 dogs and 1 cat. I had Miata, E46 M3, Mini Cooper JCW, Corvette, Porsche Boxter, F150 Raptor, Wrangler, S2000, Prowler, MR2 and Mustang GT go thru my garage, but that Sienna was the "Go-To" vehicle all the time.
Missed some notable quirky features. You have to choose between a spare tire or the 2nd row foot rests. It's the only minivan with awd and a hybrid. The platinum version (Top of the line) comes with plastic hub caps (this may he a 2022 issue, since the one you reviewed has 20" tires).
I had on like this only black as a loaner for one full day. It is a Primo Van. It is Luxury everywhere. Rides great, very very comfy seats, roomy and a pleasure to drive. Grandkids wanted me to buy this, but...ITS 56k. About 10k too much money...

Toyota builds nice affordable cars that last and don't bite you. Their only flaw is that everyone gets them because you can't go wrong with one.
I lent it for a couple months to my gf while she was in between cars and it was so good she bought a 2019 hatchback corolla. At this point the only other brand i even consider is Lexus, which, ya know, it’s Toyota. Point is get a 2000s Toyota, nobody ever regrets it
Agreed, we own two Sienna's 2005 and 2005 both over 200k miles.

I had Miata, E46 M3, Mini Cooper JCW, Corvette, Porsche Boxter, F150 Raptor, Wrangler, S2000, Prowler, MR2 and Mustang GT go thru my garage, but that Sienna was the "Go-To" vehicle all the time.
Doug: "Speaking of the grill it is absolutely massive"
Lexus: "HEY THAT'S OUR THEME"
Toyota: "I know... I made y'all"
😂😂😂
BMW:Oh hey sup.
It’s like a whale shark. Huge mouth, mostly harmless.

25 years of innovation between the Previa and the Sienna nets a 6 point bump on the DougScore.
I'm more interested in "normal" cars like this. Keep it coming!!
freakin lovin it. that's why toyota is the best in the automobile market.
Never gonna be disappointed with Doug. I am currently considering getting a Sienna. Among all those Sienna reviews, there are some small but interesting things about the car I can only see it here!❤
