    This is about the best video I've seen, for explaining and demonstrating axis of rotation. Seeing the circle follow the axis tape as the ball progresses down the lane makes the concept very clear. Thanks!

    After thirty odd years of hacking for fun with house balls I finally decided to get serious and have a ball drilled reactive to suit me. Wow!! I had to learn all over again. Amazing how difficult it has been to get my swing and steps right. At this stage I don't think about strikes at all, but learning to hook the ball where I want it to go. Very satisfying even if I get just two good bowls out of ten frames!

    In Sacramento there usta be an alley called Alhambra Lanes. Not only could you drop kick the ball between the 4 and 12 board and hit the pocket,but the PINS were 3.2.Also,the side boards were made of the springiest wood there is.I hit 8 300's there. None of 'em counted. Fun for the ego,however.

    Kudos to the producers. A suggestion if I may, apologies if already covered. Please consider adding illustrations of early and late transitions. Also, to use compare and contrast principles, add a side by side split or overlay display.Using a SOLID color ball might also help discerning the PAP but your software circle around the PAP was EXCELLENT.If you can dig up a "clear" ball with a weight block, that would also be a great teaching tool.Also, consider CGI illustrations, Ball companies might also consider this.Again if this has already been done, great! I've been away from the sport for a long time ...This video is a good example of what the USBC can do to educate bowlers.Cheers!

      The clear ball idea is neat, but that is kinda impossible or hard to do with modern resin material. It can be done with plastic but you won't see as much hook as with a resin coverstock.

    I do want to understand ball motion and when some people say in early roll and late roll, I'm guessing an early roll would be it starts to roll in the center of the hooking phase not at the end of the hook and phase and certain people want a ball with early role and late and late role would be probably like one foot after the hooking phase where it's supposed to roll but it rolls like two or three seconds late. It's interesting because this can determine where to move on the lane move over and shoot in between one and two 15 and 20 board because I'm a right-hander. I hope I can find a video of that can explain adjustments that people can make if the ball is rolling early or late

      +Aarron Smith I recently made the switch, and honestly just go out and do it. After a few times out you'll get use to it and before you know it you're bowling with three fingers naturally. I started with the basics (bowling straight, not worrying to much about hook, getting use to mechanics, how the ball feels, etc) and then I started watching alot of bowlers on youtube, Barnes mostly because to me his technique and mechanics are simple and easy to learn, and I just studied him and others while using the techniques that worked for me. Now bowling three fingers is a breezy and two fingers is just awkward. lol

    One thing they didn't mention is that the bowlers in the video were probably using finger grips and not standard drilled holes for their ring and middle fingers. I have the standard holes and it's harder to hook the ball. I'm working on it though. It's about the release. When using a standard ball your fingers are deeper in the ball and it changes the way it rolls off your hand. I think it can be done with the standard ball too, I just need to practice at it. I should have gotten the finger tips but I was concerned I wouldn't be able to grip the ball as well. Maybe next time.

    • @mrclean1127
      @mrclean1127 Рік тому

      The fingertip is a much more natural grip on the ball and allows a cleaner more powerful release to get the ball into the hook and roll phases. I switches my kids to fingertip at 8 yrs old...they loved it.

    I'm an EXTREMELY casual bowler. I've bowled a few games before when I was like , but those were YEARS ago. I've started bowling every weekend with my family at our local bowling alley (about to get a pro shop), sadly I haven't been able to get my own equipment since I'm saving up for other things. However, my dad had bowling balls of his own from 10 or so years ago in great condition that he used when he was in a league team with my grandparents and others. Fits my hand pretty good. I think the highest he got was in the 250s. To my memory and knowledge, I've gone up to 120 or 130. I plan to bowl consistently 2-3 games every week starting last week and have just bowled my first 100 in a while on my sixth game, so I think I'm doing pretty good for my first time bowling in years. I'm 16 right now and I'm considering getting a league team started with some of friends or family, and also joining my high school's bowling team. I'm VERY basic with my style, though. I've tried spinning once, and it worked pretty well. Got a spare out of it. Normally I just go straight on so I can try to get as many spares as possible and get a feel for my accuracy and flexibility. I'm thinking next time I go to the bowling alley that I will try to do some extra stuff for at least one game, maybe two. I'm pretty sure my average is about 87, so nothing to boast, but I'm proud of myself and hope to get better throughout the year and maybe even years. So far, I've bowled 6 games in the past week. My scores range from 76 to 100, 76 being my lowest and 100 being my highest as of when I made this comment.
    If you read this, let me know if I should keep continuing to bowl straight on instead of trying to go for the pocket (I'm right handed, so right side of the #1 pin). I think that spares are more important to focus on as a beginner than strikes. You can still get pretty high scores, especially for me, just by going for spares. My accuracy is fairly good I'd say, and I try not to go too light on the in-house balls or too heavy. I want that balance of control and power, but more focus on control. This a fun sport to play not just casually, but competitively. I'm surprised I never thought about bowling until now because it intrigues me so much now. I'm hoping I will end up bowling around 120-150 by the end of next month in August or some time in September..

    • @danieljaskul4688
      @danieljaskul4688 5 років тому

      Are you asking? Or just pointing out that they didn't explain it? If asking, the simplest answer would be, if you are right handed, move in (aka move left) with your feet and/or target. If your target started out as 3rd arrow, as the oil dries up, you need to move left a board, or two or three. Depending on how fast the transition is happening. Moving left to where the oil is still heavily concentrated will allow your ball to skid properly before picking up it's hook and roll down lane. If you just keep throwing your ball in the same spot without moving, there is a lot more friction on the front part of the lane where the oil has been pushed out so your ball will start hooking and rolling much earlier than intended which causes those shots that go high through the nose. Tending to leave splits, or just a lot of 4 or 7 pins. That is just one option. If you don't feel comfortable moving your target, then it gets a little trickier. Personally, I feel it is much more difficult to try adjusting ball speed or lofting the ball a little further down lane. I'm a creature of habit so I like to try to keep my approach, ball speed, release the same for every shot (as best I can). I find it easier to just move my line in. This is just my opinion. It has worked well for me. Play around and see what works best for you.

    started bowling at 10 years old. was bowling every day age 13-17. averaging 225 when I stopped bowling at age 27 in 2005. it's unfortunate that bowling balls cost $200 a piece and pros scrap them after 15 games. not affordable and these guys are in Detroit?!?! what?!?! it's also highly unfortunate that bowling alleys have been monopolized by amf and Brunswick. then they charge $15 for two hours of open bowling and shut the lane off when the clock stops. brutal. if someone wants to bowl in a league when everyone is allowed two balls and everyone has to use the same make and model balls drilled exactly the same aside from finger size I'm in. it should be about what's in the bag. it should be about the bowler.

    • @greggiaquinto5168
      @greggiaquinto5168 8 років тому +14

      +llbennyd That's like saying all baseball players need to use the same weight and size bat, all golfers need to use the same club sets, all cyclists need to use the same bike, all tennis players need to use the same racket... I think you get the picture. Yes someone with less skill can have a "more expensive better ball" and bowl a better average, but good players find a way to win regardless of "gear disparity". A good bowler with strong technical skills can still out bowl a less skilled player due to knowledge of how to read lanes, proper ball speed and rev rates where as the average casual or semi-casual player may not even know how to read oil. Oh by the way Jason Belmonte throws a rotogrip unhinged which is a 100 dollar ball and he is one of the top pro's in the circuit having won several big opens and the masters. Yes clearly he is losing out to 200 dollar balls.
      You complain about 200 dollars being expensive, but yet a bowling ball can last you at least a year or 2 or 10 if you take good care of it. If you want to get into running you will be spending 100-150+ every 5-6 months because you wear out your shoes after a while, especially if you run daily at long distances.
      Quit being a baby and taking out your frustration at your inability to bowl like how you use to. If you really were so techincally skilled, it shouldn' take more than a few weeks to a couple months to re-gain that touch. In the end it is the bowler who needs to still throw the ball and a ball thrown wrong regardless of price point will still end in the gutter or leave crap spares.

    I have an 245 average and a high game of 299 and I have 14 different bowling balls which everyone of them are different I throw a 19 mph ball with a Rev rate of 275 or 300 and I can slow down and move in and hook the lane like a two hander and I can do the norm Duke and I can stand way right to throw straight but all u people that have a problem with your bowling the biggest first steps is to get your feet walking right and to get a right arm swing and push away and follow threw but if u want to get better just practice a lot on the basics

    Padilla is not pronounced "pa-dill-a. It's "pa-dee-a". In Spanish the "LL's are a y sound!

    Wtf all these plays were made by right handlers I'm left handed this offends me

      why theres 10 of them for everyone of us,, so Figure youll see that the majority of videos are right handed based,,,
      no need to be offended,, Im old school from the early 80s,, we didnt have many videos, you had to video tape yourself , or just read books by people,, if you want some good info, and from lefties,, 2 of the Best,, which you can still apply to todays game though those were from the 80s,, Read books from Mike Aulby and Earl Anthony,, that what i did as a youth,, then put those things to the lane,, youll see it will still work with things in todays game
      Just a suggestion from a fellow lefty.

      @Johnnie C - I'm reading Earl Anthony's books right now. I'm not left-handed, I'm just vouching for them because they are fantastic books. Clearest explanations you will find for beginner's to advanced players. "Championship Bowling" and another "Winning Bowling." I've read them before, but whenever I read them my game improves, both mental and physical.

      Infidel7153 that is saying if I was eating food while playing flag football with friends, then football is not a sport. When you bowl in tournament competition you normally don't eat. Also, other athletes eat or drink while on the sidelines, as do bowlers on the back counters.

      Infidel7153 - I'd like to see you drink a beer, eat wings, and bowl at the same time. That would be a first.
