    A new belt will loosen off over time so check after a few... weeks/ hundred kms or so. My 2001 Echo still going strong!

    FYI, for anyone who can't get the alternator to move back even after loosening that top bolt, you may have to loosen the mounting bolt on the underside of the alternator. This bolt should be 14mm and I had to to loosen it before I could get the alternator to slide back like the video shows. Hope that helps! Great vid.

    Thanks for the video. Looks a lot easier than when i did it. LOL. I don't like the fact that there is no bolt style belt tensioner on this. Mine gets loose a lot and causes my AC to squeal like a pig when my rpms are not high.

    2005 Toyota echo thank you video was more helpful then any other on the repair, only suggestion I could make is just jacking it up routing the belt from the bottom much easier, and to mark the adjusting bolt so you can put back to previous tension, you have skills to be able to do it from the top was doing oil change anyways is only an additional three bolts to access it from the bottom thank you for your video very helpful

    After much fiddling, I found the order the belt is installed makes a big difference. First install it on the two large bottom pulleys. They are the hardest to reach. Next, keeping tension of the belt so it doesn't slip off those pulleys, wrap the belt around the small alternator pulley at the top. All that remains is to slide the belt around the water pump pulley beneath the alternator pulley. Since that one doesn't have a v-notch, you can force it in place more easily that the others. Then tighten up the belt with the alternator.

    Thanks Andy, I just saved some cash, My last belt just broke because my compressor pully froze and seized. I am going to try to bypass the compressor now with the smaller belt. Thanks Bro for your services!!! Wish me luck....

      @@AndyMcBlane It's done and works great! More power than I have ever had with the car. I bought the belt for the car saying that it did not have AC, it was even cheaper.

      dan pawlowsky yeah the engine (especially the 1.3L) struggles with the AC on. Especially on hot days like we had in NSW yesterday

    Cheers for the vid mate. I have a loud squeak when the AC is on and I accelerate from 0. Hopefully its not the pulley itself or the bearing in it. But I'll know for sure thnx to your vid mate. Ta

    dont you have to loosen the alternator bolt at the bottom?

    • @AndyMcBlane

      I guess not, this is the first revision of the echo ( nov '99, I think the AU echo manufacturing started in Oct '99) and also the Australian model so YMMV

    My AC compressor broke , is there a belt to bypass the AC compressor ? coz the compressor is making a funny noise.

    • @AndyMcBlane
      @AndyMcBlane  2 роки тому

      It's tied to the alternator as well. You'll be fine without the belt but once the battery runs out of power you'll lose spark and ignition

      Nov 1999 I believe (first month of production) though I would expect this design to have lasted through 2005 and, considering the Yaris uses the same engine, would assume that’s similar too
