Anne-Marie Makes Honey & Oat Body Cream - Shea Butter, Honeyquat & Beeswax | Bramble Berry

- This Honey and Oat Body Cream is full of skin-soothing ingredients including honeyquat, colloidal oatmeal, chamomile extract, shea butter, and a touch of beeswax. It’s scented with Lemon Honey Fragrance Oil, which is a sweet and creamy honey fragrance that complements the ingredients nicely. We found because of the vanilla notes, it does give the lotion a light yellow color.

Honeyquat is a water-soluble liquid that is derived from honey. It has properties similar to glycerin - it's a humectant which draws water from the air to your skin. Colloidal oatmeal is also added during the cool down- phase. Colloidal oatmeal is essentially oatmeal that has been ground into a very fine powder. Colloidal oatmeal is commonly used for skin-soothing oat baths to soothe irritated skin. We are harnessing those skin-loving properties in this recipe.
Thanks to the butters, beeswax, and Polawax, the texture is a thick cream. Because it’s water-based, it’s not as oily as a body butter, but definitely heavier than most lotions. Because of the thick texture we recommend using a jar to store this product.

Can we swap beeswax with arrow root?
Can I use optiphen ND as my preservative
Ppppppppppppppppppp
Dear Brambleberry, your videos are great and informative but we need to see more close ups of the products being made and the end consistency. This helps to know what to expect when making your products. Kind Regards.
I love how easily you explain things! You're so personable and friendly and beautiful ♡
I love the thick creams made with luscious oils. They help my dry hands and cuticles so much. I make cold process soap and tonight I made my first Aromatherapy Shower Fizzies from Soap Queen. I used a sample fragrance I got from Brambleberry, Bergamot Black Tea and after showing with one of the fizzies I started looking for a lotion/cream recipe to put it in! The stuff is intoxicating! I want soap scented with it too! I believe all the wonderful extracts and oils in this recipe will do the Bergamot Black Tea justice!
Oh my god you literally made the perfect body cream for me. Like literally everything on there, worked for me and I always didn’t know how to put like honey into my body creams that I would make cause I thought of actually using honey and that isn’t ideal so to have someone else actually find the alternatives. Thank you a million times!
The lemon honey fragrance oil is lovely. It smells so sweet and fresh at first whiff, then this warm honey scent takes over your nostrils. They did a great job coming up with this lovely fragrance oil. I use lemon honey in a few melt and pour projects.
Hi from 🇨🇦 looks very moisturizing & with winter right around the corner just in time. Thx for sharing 👍🏾
You're a beautiful human being. Thanks a million for sharing.
Your videos are very educational especially for beginners 🧡 great job!
Very nice cream recipe. I make one very similar. I use a little Allantoin to mine as well as oat extract.
Thank u for the video. Nice sound and picture quality this time. Stepping it up!! I just ordered a huge order w BB, can’t wait to get it!🥰 I really wanted to see the ENDING cream product after it was cooled. It’s super interesting & satisfying to see what it looks like after it’s cooled. Maybe next time? Thanks for the video!
She shows the final product at the beginning
Thank you for the tutorial! I appreciate you going step by step it really helps me.
😀🥰🤩🙏🥳 I did it , and your video working and follow you step by step doing the body cream my FO. Rosemary lemon smell so good and fresh smooth on the skin this is my first time as a gift 🎁 thank you so much dear. I always purchase from bumble berry.
If you took any photos, post them with #BrambleOn so we can see your creation!
I will after my vocation
Thank you!
Thank u soo much for this video cause I was wondering how to use the wax
Can you please show us one of those transparent light gel like lotions you can buy in the stores?
I had to laugh when she smelled the honeyquat…not surprised they didn’t show her reaction. Most honeyquat smells terrible! It doesn’t usually smell like honey; quaternary ingredients of any kind usually smell a little fishy or sour. Maybe Bramble Berry’s doesn’t smell as bad, but if you buy some honeyquat and it smells awful, don’t worry! It’s not spoiled! The smell won’t come through in the finished product if you’re using a fragrance oil.
A quaternary ingredient is one that has had its chemical composition altered to become cationic - that is, positively charged. Since our skin and hair is negatively charged, cationic ingredients make the product feel extra slippery and then adhere better to our skin for more protection against trans-epidermal water loss. So that’s why you’d chose to use honeyquat instead of plain honey. Both are humectants, but only honeyquat is cationic.
I love bamble berry.
Might i ask why you use otiphen instead of otiphen plus as the percentage of water is higher than oils
I tried this. Top seller.
Can you whip this up and have more of a whipped texture?
Yes
I made this. It’s a best seller!
Really love this cream!
I love this!!!!! Thank yoy!
❤❤❤love this.
Thank you so much.. very well presented video aswel 😘
I REALLY appreciate the attention to sterilization and safety :)
I got lot of wax from the tribal people near Mysore I use lot of body butter fot my skin and its healthy and my skin shines
I love these, thank you for making these videos for us!!. I have a question, do you need to use water? Is there any difference to the end product?
Love this video Anne Marie. Thank you. Question: could you use raw Manuka honey instead of the honeyquat? Thanks.
Would using Sweet Almond oil affect anyone with a nut allergy? If so what would you recommend as a replacement?
😍 love this. Thanks for sharing.
Can I add honeyquat to a butter and oil without adding a preservative? No water will be in the product.
If I wanted to make this cream even thicker, like a balm, could I just continue heating it until the water had almost evaporated out? If so, would I need to alter amount of the preservative to a lesser amount?
We Stan a sanitary queen 👑
Very effective
I’ve learn so much from you! Thank you so so much for being so generous and to share your knowledge with us! Do you have a book about how to make all these products? I need them all! Thanks! Hanna
Is there any way to substitute water for breastmilk? Or a combo of both? If so, how would that effect other ingredients, such as the preservative? TIA! 🙂
Adding any kind of milk to a lotion or cream is going to make it nearly impossible to preserve, especially if the milk is unpasteurized. If you want to add milk, you’re better off using a cosmetic-grade powder; I’ve most often seen powdered goat’s milk sold for this purpose.
Its's not "impossible to preserve" I would suggest subbing out only 10% of the water weight with milk and for sure use a water based preservative. If it's for personal use leave it in the fridge.
How much The temperature 🌡️ when we combine both oils and water ? Was that in C° or in F ?
Beautiful video as always. Is there a way to make the recipe vegan?
I am so making this yummy:)
Can you swap shea butter for natural cocoa butter to give it that beautiful chocolate scent naturally?
Its interesting that colloidal oatmeal was added to the cool down phase. I've previously seen another formulator add it to the water phase. Is it that sensitive?
neat
Hello have followed this recipe and outcome is amazing would like to know for how many months i can preserve this as i am making ths for selling purpose.TIA
Could you add colloidal oatmeal to body butter without using water or preservative ?
if i wanna make my own better with more than three kinds of better ( shea / avocado and coffee) who could i meage the ingredients? sorry im beginner
Thankyou! I was wondering if the hobeyquat can be substituted?
You can skip the honeyquat if you'd like and replace it with more distilled water.
Thank you,
ciao, vorrei farvi una domanda. al posto del Honeyquat cosa potrei usare, visto che in Italia è considerato un prodotto inquinante e di conseguenza non lo trovo da nessuna parte? Grazie.
Hello, just wondering if glycerine can be used instead of the honey quat extract?
Bramble Berry...will soft water make any difference? or is it the same as distilled?
Thank u so much i love it.... Isn’t the oatmeal going to ruin the cream ? I made it once and although i used preservative it got rotten
Moon Flower
That’s not the oatmeal’s fault, it’s the water. I make a simpler version of this that’s more of a body butter-no water and no beeswax, and a lot more oatmeal. Great for eczema. The next time I make it, I’m adding herb infused oil.
Denysha Taylor yes exactly but I thought this recipe contains water thats why I thought it would ruin
Denysha Taylor oatmeal when mixed in water in the same cream i mean
Moon Flower
Right, the water will ruin it. So you have either leave out the water or use oatmeal extract if your goal is to use oatmeal as an ingredient. If all you want is a cream, then forgo the oatmeal.
Denysha Taylor Can u send me your recipe?
Has anyone made this? Curious of the shelf life.
Thank you for a beautiful recipe. Can I use Optiphen ND for this recipe?
Hi Annmarie love this so much thk you try some diy cream and it separated why? do I throw it out and does the mixing of the oils and water hv to be done immerse in and ice bath why do some ppl do it like that? Pls ans my ? Thks, really want to make good creams, if I want to do a potato and neem or turmeric soap how is this done and if it was do as a cream can u show how pls pls looking forward to ur reply soon , help!
Usually creams separate because you don’t have a high enough concentration of emulsifying waxes. Check your recipe that you’re using the right amount of everything, and definitely get a scale if you are measuring by volume instead of weight.
As for ice baths, sometimes if you are making something that is mostly oils with a mix of hard and soft oils, if they cool too slowly, the hard oils (like cocoa butter) can remind together and make your cream feel grainy. Cooling it quickly can help with this. I do it for balms, but I don’t feel the need to do it with lotions usually.
Should we be checking the ph after making cream/lotions?
Does it have to be a bleach-water solution, or could we use something like Star-San?
Why didn't you do a percent for the ewax and beeswax?
And the colloidal oatmeal?
The recipe has been updated. The fragrance and powders like colloidal oatmeal can be considered additives.
Hi! Beautiful recipe!!! 😍 Is possible ti have the recipe in grams please? Thankyou so so much 😊
Do the colloidal oatmeal dissolve 100% or does it have a slight trace?.
Will this body butter melt like most?
Hi can I add kaolin clay instead of colloidal oatmeal?
Hello.. I've tried making lotions with colloidal oatmeal. Using optiphen and all 3 times it smells bad after 2 weeks. I don't understand because I can make Aloe with aloe pulp juice & coconut milk with honey & it's amazing that the others don't spoil. It'll be months and the lotions are perfect. Except for anything that has collodial oatmeal. I would love to make some but I've wasted so much even with small batches. I take the same precautions like you state . Optiphen at a low temperature etc. Can you explain why this may be happening? I'd love to know your take on it. Love your products and I buy many oils for my business
Letisia Williams hi! I am a microbiologist and work in a clinical laboratory, so I have some theories as to why the oatmeal needs some optiphen. I am a casual soap crafter but very new to it, however! Aloe, coconut milk, and honey all have their own independent antimicrobial properties when stored properly. They can be stored for certain periods without chemical buffering (especially for personal and not commercial use). Oatmeal, a grain product, tends to have lots of fungal elements and bacteria that hitchhike from the environment to your house even when ground and processed. The #’s are usually low enough for consumption when cooked and stored properly or eaten in a timely manner. Once you add water, aka a crucial ingredient for almost all life, those organisms start to have fun. Their fun = the deterioration of your product. This may be why you either have to use a product with the oatmeal directly from your fridge for only about 1 week instead of storing it at RT in your bathroom. I have yet to experiment with optiphen, though, but plan to make some lotions and facial sprays with it in the future 👌🏼
@@KateLB1027 Hi Kate! I'm currently making body cream with aloe vera, infused oils in dried lavender, calendula & chamomile. I'm not using any powder ingredients. I use phenoxyethanol 1,5% as preservatives and the cream goes bad really quickly.. like 1 week or sometimes less than a week. Does this had to do with my infused oils?
Hello Kate... that was very helpful. I no longer make my lotions with oatmeal. I only use all aloe or coconut milk &honey. I see that the optiphen really preserves it well. The shelf life is at least 3 months even a little more. AWESOME response, It makes perfect sense . Thank you for sharing & good luck with your crafting. I love soap making and many other bath & body products. Enjoy
Jessica Hartono hi! I haven’t used essential oils in any of my soaps or lotions yet. I have stayed clear of those for now only because I’m so new to using them other than in my diffusers at home! 😆 Are the lotions going bad (as in smell rancid) or are they simply discoloring? Maybe the essential oils are breaking down and separating more quickly instead of staying a homogenized mixture. Just thoughts! The EO could also accelerate the breakdown of your chemical preservative. There might be some blog posts, videos, or literature online from some biochemists or cosmetic chemists that explain the science behind it. I hope that helps! I’m sorry that it’s ruining your lotions. They do sound wonderful, though 😌
I’ve noticed this same thing occurring with clay as well. I’m not sure where you are getting your oatmeal from. I took actual oats and ground them in a coffee grinder... But after buying medical grade colloidal oatmeal, the problem stopped persisting. Perhaps that could be the issue? Now I use oatmeal extract anyways, which I feel is much easier to deal with.
Nice video
I thought I followed this recipe thoroughly but some of my products went mouldy after a week. What did I do wrong?
Did you use a preservative?
Preservative + distilled water + use a clean spoon to remove body butter as opposed to your hands.
Lotion bar recipes
What is the temperature the ingredients should be at?
I can't find any body selling these with the same ingredients, everything is mostly just oil based on Etsy :(
Can we use colloidal almond meal instead. Thanks in adv.
Do you have a uk distributor?
What exact scale are you using please?
Can we actually drink distilled water?? They sell it in the supermarket and I don’t know if I should drink it or not lol
You absolutely can! It just tastes like stale water. Like if you left a glass of water out and drank it the next day Lol
Actually, while you can drink distilled water, doing so can make you very sick after some time because it’s been stripped of important minerals and electrolytes your body expects when drinking water. So while it’ll work in a pinch, it’s not very good for you and can even kill you if you replace it in your normal diet over time. My dad works in hazmat and warned me against this years ago.
Thanks for all your good information guys u helped me a lot there are good people in the world❤️❤️
yea distilled just means boiled.. it has a weird taste and i wouldn’t drink tooo often
I just made this recipe and when I apply it to my legs or face it gets really white like sunscreen and takes awhile to actually rub in. I also feel slight tingly with this cream on my face. Any solutions?
Probably too much emulsifier
You said your chamomile extract is water based? Does it have water in it? I want to use chamomile extract on my oil based body butter but I cant if it contains water and since you said its based, I am curious if that is right?
Joy Davey she said it was oil based
Could I use some of your color block in a recipe like this?
Can I substitute honeyquat with something else? If yes, then with what and how much?
Maybe glycerine but I wouldn't put more than 2 or 3%, not 5%. Glycerine is sticky. Do you have Polyquaternium 7 or panthenol or sodium lactate? In that case you could use 2% of glycerine, 2% of panthenol and 1% sodium lactate for example. Somebody else mentioned allantoin, that is a great ingredient too.
Anyway I would use the rate of 5% for my replacement because otherwise you will need to reformulate everything. Within that 5% you'll need to take care of maximums. For example, technically you could use 5% of glycerine (and for a feet product that would be OK) but for hands 2 or 3% is enough. Generally 2% is common for panthenol. So I wouldn't replace the 5% of honeyquat by 5% of panthenol.
Those girls are birleant &good.
do you sell the creams if I dont want to make it?
We only sell the supplies to make our projects. All of the products we make in-house are either used by staff or are donated to local organizations.
What size jar are they
Can you used finely milled rolled Oates in this recipe
i wouldnt use anything other than colloidal oats, finely milled may still act as an exfoliant which wouldnt feel too nice in a cream like this
I am the 6kth person that loked your video😍
Do you guys have things selling on Amazon?
We sell our products on brambleberry.com instead of Amazon.
I would like the recipe in grams to make a quarter for myself please 😊😔
Do you have a vegan body crem?
I have been making creams, lotions and much more for decades and I've never needed emulsifiers, preservatives, artificial fragrances, or commercial ingredients. Using all of those artificial, manmade, chemical ingredients in one's homemade skin products is rather defeating the point of making homemade skin products. Once you'd added in all that trash you've simply replicated what you could buy at the shops. We make at home because we care about what we put on our skin, for what we put on our skin we put in our bodies. It is misleading and false to say that emulsifier is necessary, it isn't. If you've made mayonnaise you know this. Oil and water do not want to mix, but you can make them with friction and timing. Humans created a myriad of wonderfully natural, innovative, and amazing products long before petrochemicals came on the market. We've lost that vital connection to nature and we need to promote its return, and our freedom within it, not more reliance on consumerism.
so its a cream not a body butter
Is Polawax Emulsifying Wax vegan and cruelty free?
Our Polawax Emulsifying Wax is derived from plant-based fatty alcohols.
Ok....Thank you!!!! 🙏 🙂
Do you ship to Nigeria
Unfortunately, we can’t ship to Nigeria due to import regulations.
I have phenonip, and emulsifying wax...no polar wax🥴🤔🥴🥴🙂🙂
Stopped because I don't know what the emulsifier ingredient is
Fix the website. I keep getting so disappointed by my wishlist having only 6 items in it when I favorited so many items for future projects. Also the site renewing itself and emptying my cart. I want to support a Washington local but the website is not impressive whatsoever.
0:35 awkward silence
Can I be your student.thanks sharing.amazing
Once you add preservatives it's not that clean or natural anymore:((
Why are you microwaving your products
I don know much english.aeney
