    Saw this video. I'm happy someone from Pakistan is doing things like that. Also i wanted to add. As you wont find smd resistors in home laying around , you could use chromium resistors the one that have colors on it.

    People think repaired stuff is bad but it depends on how much of a repair u did.. in this case it was a resistor so u can say it good as new .. nice fix jani

      Yup that's true, but the problem is that we won't know which part has actually been repaired and how severe the fault was at the first place, so buying used/repaired PSUs aren't really a good option unless you are certain about its condition.

    I don't think that i have ever commented on youtube, but i just want to say thank you, i woke up this morning to the same issue PC energizing for a fraction of a second then shutting off, i removed the gpu and other cards to eliminate them and it stayed the same, so i teared open the power supply after i saw your video and i was sure it was the cause of my problem not other components however my resistor looked fine externally so i removed it to measure and it measured 10 ohms, i soldered it back on board and boom power supply is working again, i guess that it was a matter of a cold solder joint or loose one due to heat.

      What’s the hot air thing he talking about? Like a hot air gun thats a necessisity to repair an iPhone by heating up the glue that keeps the screen on and forms the waterproof seal??? I just managed to get a real hot air gun and my gosh does the air gun make a difference. I could literally start a fire in seconds with the heat directed at a piece of printer or news paper. First time i used it on an iPhone i freaked out when i had it aimed a bit too close the the front screen and it looked like someone spilled a cup of coffee under the glass from all the pixels heating up but luckily it went away pretty quickly. When I touched the iPhone, almost burnt my hand. Before I got the hot air gun I went from pissing my wife off big time to making very happy because she was a hairstylist and I just started off. Didn’t have her dream blow dryer yet and then I kept sneaking in every so often when I would have to repair someone’s iPhone screen and steel her hair dryer and I always forget to put it back so what I did was find out what the best model blow dryer. I could buy see if it was better or similar to the one that she wanted and found out that it was actually much better and more expensive. I bought her a ceramic blow dryer from top-of-the-line imported from Europe manufacture when I got to using hers just for fun, one time to do a repair to see how much different it was from the non-ceramic old one that she happily traded me for I realized how good the ceramic one was so I upgraded her again, she got a new ceramic and I got the old one did two different and I think that blow driers are much safer options if you’re dealing with anything like an iPhone or putting on heat shrink tubing. This almost sounded like he was talking about soldering with hot air. I’ve never done that before if anyone can explain that to me I’d appreciate it.

    Good on you for warning people of the danger of the capacitor as it is literally a stun gun in the shape of a battery. I would argue that is unnecessary and even dangerous as you cannot accurately predict when the capacitor will fully discharge by just leaving it. I have no formal electrical training but I’ve worked in IT for 20+ years, built bitcoin mining rigs . I’m still not sure which is more difficult , designing a proper multi device rig or designing the power requirements and installation of a proper data Center, but they both share very similar requirements and dangers except with a data Center the big power source that could turn up to crisp is mainly located in the electrical utility closet or wherever the main power is fed into the building. Typicallly after that it’s split off safety into recepticles and no surprises there. But designing a bitcoin or any kind of crypto rig involves setting up multiple dozens of power supply units just like the ones in this video actually quite often higher I had them usually in the 700 800 W range for ant minor I even had a 1000 W PSU in one unit, which of course had a back up decided it so 2000 W power supply that if anything short out that capacitor or if you open it up to do a repair cause when you’re doing this mining stuff you have to save every penny literally so you’re not you’re not taking your power supply it geek squad to get it fixed you do it yourself and there are a lot of those capacitors. The best way to repair one is disconnect. The power completely you can count to five, wait 10 minutes or wait an hour. Waiting an hour is probably the safest but you still don’t know that that capacitor probably still has most of its charge in it. They’re designed to hold a heavy charge. So unplug the power cord from the PSU and if it’s connected to a computer even better because then you have an on button to push just push the on button you’ll notice that after you unplug the cable if your computer has an ethernet cable in the back of it, just watch the ports on it they stayed lit up for like a good 5 to 10 seconds in some cases or the motherboard often has a green light showing that everything‘s OK and powers flowing through it. It will stay lit up for several seconds, that’s those capacitors. It’s hooked up to a computer. You’re actually slightly safer because they sort of drain them, but the best way to do it regardless of if it hooked up to a PC, Or just open in front of him like that is pull the power cord turn on the supply however, you can so short the cable if it’s not plugged in a computer or rig and keep it shorted for a few seconds that should be enough to discharge all of the remaining power inside the capacitor. Then to be safe, you can use a multimeter to test the capacity for any amperage of voltage in it. It should register basically 0.

    Good repair . How do you trouble case where power supply shuts down immediately after power on if the supervisor chip is shutting down the PSU . Can you stop the supervisor chip shutting down the PSU so that the PSU remains on so you can trouble shoot the problem . What is interesting is to show techniques to trouble different classes of fault

    how do you know the value of the resistor?

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza 11 місяців тому

      if you're asking that then you HAVE GOT TO BE new to electronics
      OK
      1. Learn about Ohm's Law
      2. He knows the value by the colours on the resistor.
      Google DIGIKEY RESISTOR COLOUR CODES and get out some resistors, Predict the value
      then check with a DMM if you are correct
      3. why did he use that value ?
      Because when you have 155V olts it's fucking pointless to use a low value, say 10 Ohm resistor.
      You want to use a high value resistor
      what he is doing TO MAKE THINGS SAFE IS....
      Instead of shorting the capacitors as idiots tends to do,
      HE IS PUTTING AN ELECTRICAL LOAD BETWEEN THE PINS
      PUTTING AN ELECTRICAL LOAD IN A CIRCUIT MAKES THE CIRCUIT CONDITION SAFE
      that's why
      and the value of voltage that you have will determine what cap you will use to make it safe

  • @LearnElectronicsRepair
    @LearnElectronicsRepair 3 роки тому

    @guythatdoeseverything 9mins :07secs - Are you sure that FSB6601 switches the 'secondary transformers' because those coils you point to are not transformers, they are the output inductors, which are responsible for removing ripple/high frequency noise and giving a stable output voltage, together with the output capacitors. They don't need 'switching' in any sense. Nice repair though. The FSB6601 is either the PWM controller for the main power supply rails or it is a voltage comparator (probably a quad differential comparator similar to LM339). You didn't mention the part number of the other 20 pin IC so there is not enough info to say for sure.

    Is there any reason you used a 47k ohm resistor specifically to discharge the capacitor?

    • @MiettedeThonTomate
      @MiettedeThonTomate 3 роки тому

      Huge resistance so it wont fry up. Under 1 k it will probably get hot or maybe boil under high voltage

    • @martinkuliza
      @martinkuliza 11 місяців тому

      YES......
      A capacitor without an electrical LOAD is an OPEN CIRCUIT aka Extremely High Resistance
      if you place a LOAD that is of low resistance across the terminals
      THE CAP WILL DUMP THE POWER INTO THE LOAD because current can now flow
      IF THE RESISTANCE IS LOW vs the voltage (Electrical Pressure) going through it
      it will fry the resistor
      SO... IT'S NOT AN EXACT VALUE CHOICE
      but....
      it can't be infinite resistiance because current will not flow
      it can't be low resistiance because too much will flow and burn the resistor
      TO MAKE THE CIRCUIT SAFE
      it has to be enough for current to flow
      but also the resistor has to be able to handle the voltage dump into it
      so high enough resistance to be able to take it
      so 100k to 300k ohm should be fine

    and the psu is that same one , so he was working normally on the pc but in sudden it just turned off with sound of electric shortage and it just kept restarting , he took the pc to the same store that he bought the motherboard from , and they told him that the motherboard is dead because of the power supply , and they broke the socket when they wanted to take off the cpu , so is it the same problem that is showed in the video ?
