Hey. Could you please help me? I recently moved and now my pc won't power on. I reseted all cables and made sure the cables were good as well as checking the outlet. No luck. (Edit) Nvm tried testing the PSU, and after the test it booted up no problem. Weird how that works. Thank you so much for making this video. Saved me time and $

Spent an entire week trying to get my new build desktop to start. Though the power supply was faulty . Your video allowed me how to determine that the power supply was working. Turned out it was the effing front panel connectors. I have an ASUS Q connector from my first build 6 years ago but it does not fit MSI MB. Thank you
Woot woot!! Thank you after replacing 1 psu I discovered that my power switch is faulty with the help of this video!! Many many thanks sir! You are very appreciated ❤🙏
The most straightforward to the point and super helpful and descriptive video i've seen yet! Not even the popular youtubers have made a video this thorough for beginners. Well done! and Thank you because I'm trying to isolate why my computer is not turning on.
I watched a bunch of different vids. And the one thing that worked was someones comment reccomending replacing the cmos battery. Still cant thank that person enough. Quickest fix of all the things recommended by videos.

Thanks man! This vid helped me and saved me a lot of money. Someone commented here and has the same problem as mine. We thought it was the motherboard because the psu is working and the switch wasn't even if we do the jumper thing. He said someone here also recommended replacing the CMOS battery first and it did, my pc worked and so as his. Just sharing this experience to not jump right to conclusion first about the motherboard being faulty. God bless y'all!

I tuck the power box out of an old computer to use as a malty tap power supply i.e. 3.3V, 5V ,12V for a bread board and Arduino projects. I had power to the box and through the on-off toggle switch on the box but no power out or fan movement, so I followed your instructions, joined the green and the black pins and it now works. Thanks to your video you've saved a lot of electronics from the scrap bin.
Very useful video to help beginners, but there are a couple of things to add to make it even more effective. Some power supplies don't spin their fans until they get above a certain temperature or power load. Also, the power supply fan spinning, doesn't indicate the full health of the power supply. You also need to test the various dc power outputs of the power supply, like the 5v and 12v lines. You'll need a multimeter for that though. The reason is that quite often the fan will spin, but the power supply won't be giving out the correct voltages to power on the computer. If your computer does power on but then completely shuts off while doing something like gaming, that can also be a symptom of a failing power supply or just a power supply that isn't sufficiently powerful for your computer. As a side note, be very cautious about buying cheap power supplies, such as the ones in this video. Most are junk and some are potentially dangerous and can cause fires if overloaded. One last point, unless you know what you are doing, never open the power supply case unless you want to risk getting a very nasty and potentially lethal shock.
A week ago I found a random ddr3 RAM stick lying around whilst cleaning the house and decided that perhaps I could install it into a prebuilt tower (some old lenovo from 2010) my mum uses (she doesn't use it much, only occasionally) I opened up the tower once before a month or two just to check the insides since I was bored and nothing went wrong after that. 2 days ago I opened up the thing once again to install the RAM. I noticed the CPU power cable (an old 4 pin connector, not the 8 pin ones used today) was kinda in the way and I had to tug it a bit to install the RAM. problem is installing the RAM was a hassle and one of the clip things didn't really click properly. I also didn't really ground myself and touched the RAM cards everywhere, including the golden pins. Before installing the new RAM i took out the old one to see if the one I found was compatible and it was. PC3 8500U and the old one was PC3 12800U. installed both dimm modules, turned on the switch annnnd...shit doesn't turn on, whcih was weird because we literally just used it an hour before to read some old CDs we also happened to find while cleaning. I try reinstalling the RAM, again not caring about grounding myself and same thing happens again. later I read about the grounding yourself before touchy thing and assumed that i probably killed the ram, but the thing didnt even turn on at all so it definitely wasnt a RAM problem. another thing to note is that while doing all this I didnt disconnect the power cable. (external switch on the mains was off though, the psu itself didnt have one) so here I am still freaking out. I only can think of two scenarios: 1. mobo is somehow dead 2. cpu cable isnt connected properly (remember how I yanked on it) problem is said cable is located directly under this giant plate blocking and surrounding the CPU and heatsink that houses the CPU fan. I'm afraid I'll mess something up if I take it out but upon using my phone camera to peek at the cable under it it doesn't seem to be that loose. (isn't coming out despite solid yanks, only wobbling a bit) man this sucks.
Thanks for raising this. In my case rhe paper clip test proved that the fan was spinning leaving the switch or the motherboard. The jumper test for the switch did not work so it had to have been the motherboard. Right? Wrong! Yes the paper clip test did make the fan spin but it felt weak. On impulse I had another power supply and so swapped it over and bingo, everything lit up and worked. As you say, my PSU was working but in poor health, so much so that it did not power up the motherboard. Therefore assuming a faulty motherboard would have been the wrong diagnosis. I want to share this experience so I'm repeating it as a main comment. Thanks again.
@@nerd2544 apologies for the delay in replying. I never actually received a notification for your reply. To elaborate though, a computer power supply doesn't just provide a single voltage. It will output 12v via one set of wires, 5v via another set and sometimes other voltages too. Quite often a power supply can fail partially, but not fully, because one or more components inside it has failed. This will often result in the output voltages to be much lower, or more rarely much higher than they should be. Using a multimeter on DC voltage mode, you can measure those output voltages. If they are more than a little different to what they should be, there is a high chance that something in the power supply has failed, even though the fan might still spin. If the voltage is not as it should be, the computer will be starved of power and will either not run at all, or may seem to run okay until you try to do anything useful with it. Gaming in particular can pull a lot of power from the psu and if the psu is not up to the task, your pc may shut down under load. I hope that helps and answers your question.
I've watched at least 30 videos over the past day trying to figure out an issue after replacing a motherboard and you absolutely saved me! Can't thank you enough!

Thank you a great simple 1,2,3 approach to solving what can be an incredibly baffling problem. However sometimes it may not be so black and white. I'm posting this to share experiences. In my case the paper clip test proved that the fan was spinning leaving the switch or the motherboard. The jumper test for the switch did not work so it left the motherboard. That was the only conclusion to left. However the spinning fan on the PSU didn't feel right, it felt weak. On impulse I had another power supply and so swapped it over and bingo, everything lit up and worked. The PSU therefore although working was in poor health. See comment by Peter Judd. In this case assuming a faulty motherboard would have been the wrong diagnosis.

HELLO TOROGI! Am an avid Subscriber, you are my first 'Go to' when diagnosing PC issues! I recently built a new Computer in my old Tower with a new Raidmax Vampire 1000W 80 Plus Gold Power Supply, an MSI Z390-A PRO Motherboard with an Intel Pentium Gold Processor G5400 CPU @ 3.7GHz! Next added 64.0 GB DDR4 3200 Ram! Also a ZOTAC GAMING GeForce GTX 1 Video Card! Recently upgraded all my HHD's with an Intel 660p Series M.2 1 TB SSD Drive C and two WD I TB internal SSD's! My Computer now boots up completely for a cold start in 30 seconds!!!! (Once in a while when I turn it on, it Boots into the Bios Screen)!!!(But when I wont to boot into Bios, no matter what key combination I press it wont go into Bios on Command)! Windows will not display on my Digital Monitor but I can see the Bios Screen on another HDMI Output to my 32 inch TV! Am running XMP Mode and Gaming Mode on the MSI along with allocating 3/4 of my Ram to Process my Adobe Premiere 2022! My Question is: How do I get the computer to Boot into Windows EVERY TIME? And secondly, How do I get my computer to boot into Bios on command?
I tried this method because of sudden shutdown, my psu is good, but maybe mobo is my problem, 😭 Thanks for this video. Hoping for more troubleshooting videos in your channel. GL.
Thanks, this is my first video from yours, liked, subscribed, and thanks for the informations, keep up the awesome work. Thanks alot again. I'm a guy who is having a motherboard issue xD
i just like to share of how i fixed my pc that won't turn on. I did all troubleshooting, checked psu, power switch, ram and they are all working well. I also removed the MB from pc case but still it doesn't power on, tried to disconnect psu 8pin atx and only 24pins connected but still didn't power on. With this I'm guessing i need to change the MB. but while searching for a fix, i saw others using hair dryer to start their pc, i tried it (gamit hair dryer ni mother hehe) and wow my pc turned on, but the next day it won't again turn on, so i used hair dryer again to turn it on. Then i saw cleaning the crystal cylinder with isopropyl alcohol and wd40 multi-use will solve the problem, i tried it and it really worked on my pc. This saved me from buying new MB. Motherboard is gigabyte b450m ds3h
Thankyou. This is exactly what I needed. Now i just need to execute the troubleshooters in order. Hopefully i only need to do this 2nd step n i can put mu new ps in
This video helped me a lot it was the power cable and shipping mine got damaged The wires were cut bad and I've been using it and it just finally melted
Hey, this was useful! But my motherboard was the problem i was worried but then i removed the processor turned it on then turned it back off, Then i put the cpu back and it worked
Great video again for computer troubleshooting purposes. It will really help a lot of computer/laptop enthusiasts, like me. if you ask me, you don't deserve 100k subscribers, what you deserve is a more than a million subscribers! Kudos to you Mr. Torogi Pro! Thank you. GOD bless. P.S. Again ni-like ko uli ang video na to.
If youre computer is more than a few years old and suddenly wont start, try replacing the CMOS battery first, with a CR2032 3v battery, mine had died and wouldnt start until I replaced it, worth a try as they are very cheap.
Anyone if you are seeing my comment you are lucky cause I have a great way to treat this problem it worked for me as well So first of all open your pc and then press the cell in it 🎉 boom you'll pc will start make sure to turn of your pc before doing this
This what i am talking about someone understand my problem finally, i am not very electricity guy however i got the problem when i upgraded my GPU and it turns out that he needs a bigger PSU so i ordered one wich will arrive tomorrow I'll test it and if it don't fire up the PC then as u said RIP Mobo...
I hope it helps! Drop your comments! make sure to like and subscribe!

I tried this method because of sudden shutdown, my psu is good, but maybe mobo is my problem, 😭
Thanks for this video. Hoping for more troubleshooting videos in your channel. GL.
thankyouuuu🤩❤ it helps I thought that my motherboard is broken then it turns out that only my power switch is only the problem
My wife is filipino! I am English. And now I know my MOBO is toast. Salamat po!
Thanks for the tips how turn on the system unit, you deserve to subscribe

Thank You so much, I’m going to try this.
If youre computer is more than a few years old and suddenly wont start, try replacing the CMOS battery first, with a CR2032 3v battery, mine had died and wouldnt start until I replaced it, worth a try as they are very cheap.
Very clear explanation, thnks dude
