Those look great. I like the beach one a little better because it highlights that fact that these playsets (pretty much across the board, polly pocket, barbie, hello kitty etc.) Really benefit from having actual color and not just single color molded plastic. I really like how much it made things pop and added the more 'realistic ' touch to it.
Thank you so much for the feedback. I love how the wooden areas turned out. I was so nervous when I added the colour because it immediately took the youthfulness out and made it more life-like... I wasn't sure how much it'd work in the end but am really happy that I continued on with it. It added the right realistic touch. 🤗

Oh man it was ... A lot. And I had to paint everything white first with 3 layers...and wait for it to dry. Then do my colours in 2-3x layers to get the colour as well lol. Then mod Podge. For both sets. So it was a lot!

I love how it looks. I wasn't a huge fan of the compacts before. They were cute but all the chunks of color were uninteresting so I wasn't interested in purchasing it. But now I might change my mind and paint it.

I remember having Polly Pocket as a kid and hating when molded details weren't colored. Why add all those details if you're not going to make them pop?
The playsets both look so much better. My favourite out of the two is the Candy Carneval, the beach one is a bit too glittery for my taste. That's just me though, you did an amazing job on both of them. Bringing out the details improved the sets so much, and you pulled it off without it becoming visually confusing or overwhelming. Everything still looks coordinated, if that makes sense.

these look super cute! Just be a bit careful since you used nail polish instead of paints, nail polish tends to yellow faster or get brittle after a while. To get the same effect I would recommend mixing in glitters with mod podge and paint that on, especially since you mentioned using mod podge to seal it so you already have the stuff.
Thank you I'll try to remember that next time. I didn't even think about it🤣 I was like... Sparkles and water, oooh Holo Taco would work... perfect. 😅 Also I hate glitter so I aim to avoid it. However now I'll be mindful of what you've said because that would be a shame to have all the hard work alter or come off. So thank you 💜
I was just watching a video from Chloe Rose in which she unboxed a lot of art products and one of them was glittery mod podge. Maybe you can use that next time

These are so impressive, with all of those tiny detailed bits, I'm not surprised they took time, they came out so well though so it was worth it. I get how it is getting back pain from working on stuff, I don't have a desk that isn't covered by my computer so I usually do things sitting on my bed with a little folding table that also sits on the bed, I end up so sore that most of the time I just don't do it. It's also super good that you took some time to decompress and do something you enjoy for your own sake, you deserve to have fun without it needing to be content.
love these, they came out lightyears looking better and the glitter gives it another dimension too
These are AMAZING! And I know it wasn't intentional, but I'm very happy about the pan pride colours on the jelly bean path and pencil holder 😊💕

Boy, that is a lot of painting! I like them both but I like the Glittery beach theme the best. I am drawn to all things beachy right now because summer is starting and I miss the water.

Amazing what alil bit of paint and glitter can do. Looks way better and can see all the details. Love it.
I know I was so excited as I began adding colours and saw it coming alive. So glad you like them.
They look so much better witch colors! The candy carnival one had so much character after you brought out the details. 👍
Just a thought but you could use the little indented details and protrusions to make little polymer clay items to add to your sets so they become a little more interactive. Obviously small things not so great for small children but they can all be stored in the little compartments inside so you don’t lose them
I'm only just learning to use polymer clay as it's a material I have a difficult time with. Also I will have to learn to make tiny things look good hahah. Love the suggestion though!!
I love the beach compact. Both of your customs are great, but the beach compact itself appeals more to me than the carnival one.

Beautiful! Have you tried painting boardgame miniatures? (maybe content that would not be classified as kids stuff, miniatures and deluxified items, boards would be awesome) The puzzles are beautiful. I love diamond painting, so therapeutic and a perfect hobby while listening to an audiobook.

I spent some time putting some wooden robot kits together, they're like a puzzle except you get a little remote controlled combat robot out of it at the end.
They are both completely gorgeous!!

You know I love finding many things and to be honest there are so many little sets and stuff that I come across in store and decide not to buy... Only to regret it after so I totally understand how you feel. But I'm of the mindset that maybe it wasn't meant to be if you can't find it again. That's how you got to look at things sometimes but in this case if you really are wanting one I hope you're able to get one. If you do and you decide to do a repaint I would love to see the end results so if you have Instagram please tag me if you take pictures 🤩

There is such a differences, I love your videos. You give me motivations to keep creating and loving thing that in the world around us say we are to old and shouldn't. Like Barbie and such, it's helped my mom as well. Thank you so much, I hope we can see more ways you customize things. Also there is this sticker machine I think you may really like, it's called "Create-A-Sticker" by Xyron. I have the mini one and I know it has been really fun and helpful for crafting.

something i do a lot is that i like buying toys from fandoms
for example RotTmnt action figures
and they tend to have sculpted details that are not painted so i paint the details the way there shown in the show and i sometimes add my own personal touches to them i recently finished Mikey and Leo
and what i did on Mikey was that i made his eyes bigger to potray the personality he has in the show i also painted the marks and details on his shell a metallic orange and made the graffiti marks on the plastron look more accurate
And on Leo i painted the marks/details on the shell a metallic turquoise and the gloves
and gave him a smirk
cause he tends to do that smirk in the cartoon

I'd say they turned pretty good and quite accurate to how they look in the cartoon,
i often like doing this for fun and on my free time and i find it satisfying.
especially when the figures look exactly like how there supposed to be once i painted them
since im quite the artistic person
this is one of my most favorite hobbies, cause i like having that satisfaction of having somthing as simple as a toy brought to life and personilized by me
and well i hope you enjoyed customizing and painting these hello kitty compact sets, i swear that these where extremely well put together and painted

This is really cute and beter than the original toy. You really gave this compact an old Polly Pocket vibe which is really, really nice ♥

They look so cool! I think the candy one is my favourite for all the reasons you listed. It’s such a shame that the person who designed those compacts put so much thought into the detail only for them it barely be visible!
Oddly enough just the other day I bought one of the ‘worlds greatest mini fingerlings’ play sets to customise! If you do end up customising another set you should consider using products intended for model railroad builds or war gaming miniatures. There is a plethora or items that look incredibly realistic! Like tiny bushes, trees, grass, gravel etc. I’m currently building a tiny Pokémon diorama inside a pokeball made from a ‘full your own’ Christmas bauble 😄

I'm so glad you brought these here because I wanted to comment on them so much! I love the Candy Carnival one so much and if it was more functional as a pencil holder as well as a playset I would totally be buying it for law school even though I'll be Legally Grey instead of Legally Blonde. :-)

I remember having a pencil play set but it was for littlest pet shop I loved that thing and I still have it to this day in storage somewhere lol
I get you. I´m a reviewer for this site and before I was very optimistic and would be able to write plenty and often. Then I just couldn´t. And now it takes a lot of effort for me to do.
I also have been neglected certain things I used to love but I get it has to do with a mild depression that, until I can afford it, can´t do anything about it.
But what I´m trying to say is that one reaches times when you just don´t feel like it. And while hard it´s better to take time for yourself. On the one you barely have any other option and on the other you´ll feel better for it.
I'm sorry to hear you are struggling with motivation and depression as well. It's definitely not something I'd wish for anyone. Sending hugs and hope you find something that helps you find a calm in the storm like I did.
You're great at reviewing toys and you're also a great artist, these turned out so cute and beautiful you're so talented, keep doing what you love! ❤😊

Since you talked about your old paints I need to bring this up... at home we are also crafters (so to speak) and my aunt told me that old acrylic paint can be "restored" with boiling water and glicerin. If I find the right amount to do so, I'll let you know (probably on Instagram 😉)

I giggle though, because I had you on 1.75x for m ADHD, then I slowed you down to normal to look at the paintjobs better, then I was like "Wait, this can't be Jen talking at her usual pace!!" Did you slow yourself down by .25x for this one at all? x
LOL no that was my regular voice although to be fair in real life I talk way faster than I do here on camera. I've actually made it a point to slow down and try to articulate my thoughts properly so that I don't lose the viewers LOL. I truly do appreciate you slowing down the video though so you can see all my hard work, 🤗
@@NexJen Well mission accomplished!! I know I'm a speedy person but the fact that I felt the need to ask proves that you've definitely managed to slow it down for videos (and I know how hard that can be!) I told my best friend all about this video because I was so blown away by all the details you brought out, and he suggested telling Sanrio or whichever toy company is producing the pencil boxes about it. Because the amount of value added by your work is truly shocking and even 20% of the handpainting you did being added to production would surely bring stupid levels of value, comparatively, as well as making a better loved toy and creating jobs (hopefully appropriately paid, I know toy production is an area of concern for working conditions... like most things, GAH!)
Long comment, point being - I'm super excited to see you customise some Pollys! I remember that the detail in them was usually good to great but sometimes you'd come across a set that had all the moulding but little to no paint and it was a huge bummer. The holo nail polish you did on one of these really reminded me of the glitter sheen o the plastic water in the under the sea storybook Polly Pocket, it was purple? One of my favourites, for all the detail. Oh no, comment getting longer, better go - I love living vicariously through your channel with all the toys and crafts and comparison shopping and upcycling things, thanks for all your hard work and dedication!
