People sleep on how much depth you can achieve with compression, today for the first time it hit me, I was mixing a track and I noticed that when I would compress the track it fell back into the mix !
I love the video & you have earned a subscriber. Keep dropping jewels on the community. This video & the rest are very much appreciated & formatted in a way where knowledge can be retained & applied. You did an excellent job explaining and providing examples.
This is a great tutorial my guy. You really know your stuff and have purpose with the moves youre making. Not just following the cookie cutter UA-cam guides. Really appreciate this new (to me) approach to compression. Curious about your mixing rates

This is top tier bro ,great stuff , i’ve noticed that compression can line up the transients , create groove ,it can set the position of each track or group of tracks in the mix in a separation type a way ,creating dimension ,it can make certain elements groove better with each other,(e.g, using the same attack and release time on drums ,and then different times for Bass and so on.
Facts facts facts!!! Love this. So true. Def needs to be talked about way more on here. So many other uses for compression than what is often talked about. Thank you for commenting and watching 🙏🏾!
Man I knew it was something more to vocal control on a track or anything you want to control dynamics on and peaks and since you explained it I understand quite well and it makes all the sense about it! Damn thank you.
Cool. I usually like automating a gain plugin lately. Hate having to loose the use of my channel strip. Great use of compression I like for color and tone. Keep up the great work.
I swear...I got roasted on a FB group for using volume automation. It just makes more sense to do it this way. They kept saying could've used Vocal Rider. I just prefer more control over my dynamics. Folks don't wanna do the work.
I feel you. It happens to me too lol. But the results speak for themselves 🤷🏾♂️. Folks don't want to do the work is facts! You're right. But those who do have an opportunity to cut through 🙏🏾.
Im starting to get into the world of mixing, and i dont know too much about compressors, like how they work and what each knob actually do, and would really help if u could do a video explaining how compressors work in depth and show some of the compressors vsts you use, because i really liked the way you view and use them. Love your content man, your amazing!
Thank you fr! Thank you for commenting and for watching. I can do that for sure!!! I'll be glad to help! I come up with a video for it and release it soon. I'll try to keep you updated and let you know when it drops!
Wow, outstanding lesson young man.. This is bananas.. I really like the way you broke this down man.. I've learned a lot bruh.. Bruh you should go on My Audio Nerds podcast.. This info is bananas bro.. I've learned so much.. Thank you for this..Yes suuh, you make a lot of sense.. Gems gruh. OUTSTANDING!!

@@TheSwollenOne I think knowing when enough is enough. You ever do a mix, then come back to it and mess it up.. lol.. Cause you watched a tutorial and what they do with vocals I can't do cause their vocals sometimes pretty much already sound good.. How to know when a vocal is right, not too thin or not too boomy.. you know.. I hope I explained that properly.. lol
Referencing music that's already out helps me a lot with this. So if I'm going in a different direction, I know how far I'm going based on what the baseline for great is! I have a mix reference playlist I use for that.
What's your email? I'll make a video and send it to you and show you all of it. It's an older session so I don't route things that way anymore. I can include how I do it now as well.
My problem with volume automation is that it doesn’t take long for me to become completely deaf and have to squint at the screen and rely on wave size , but also adhd makes me wanna jump to something production wise midway through volume automating vocals ha ha
Might have to do it in sections 😅. Like do the hook and go to something else. For me all of this is like a mediative and creative state I go in so while I can understand that I experience it differently.
I don’t disagree with you but I don’t agree with either left or right. I think you are as far away to the other side as the ones that only use compression. Before everything it depends on what you start with. Volume automation is like like driving a sedan to work. Its main job is to get u from point A to point B. And sometimes that just all you need. Compression is like driving to wok everyday in a Ferrari. If you’ve ever driven a Ferrari then you know that it’s not about A to B at all. It’s an emotional colorful memories ego larger than life drive that you hate to get to point B because it means it’s over. Now if you have never driven a sports car, and you don’t know how then even a Ferrari feels like a sedan.
This is very interesting. I get your perspective but I don't agree with the use of the analogy 😅. But I use both when I think either is needed. I love this perspective and how you're thinking about this tho! Thank you for this comment and checking out the video.

Bro how long does volume automation take ugh… anyway thanks for the video. Learned a ton. I’m an EQ first guy and didn’t realize comps have EQs
The true answer is it depends. But I’d say on average an hour and a half to two hours

Greta content fr but that’s just gain staging and compression
Technically everything can be simplified to very fundamental concepts so I'm not sure what the point of saying this was
Vocal Rider?
Tried it and it does not do what I would do or what I want it to do. Tried the one from Melda as well.
But that process is far too time consuming
Could be the difference between good and great.
